Posted December 7, 200321 yr CTV Sports up in Canada reported that the Expos have made a last ditch offer to Vladimir Guerrero - 5 years/$72 million which much of that money backloaded over the final 3 years. Apparently the Vazquez trade made this possible by freeing up some payroll. They also said that Vlad is leaning heavily towards re-signing with the Expos because the only other team to make him a similar offer is Baltimore but he's not crazy about the lack of Latin based talent on the Baltimore roster - a key factor for Vlad considering he doesn't speak English. thats alot of mula....
December 7, 200321 yr wow, I bet the is larger latin community in Baltimore than in Montreal. So I think that the estimate of 12 or 13Mill a year to sign the man here in Marlins land was/is realistic.
December 7, 200321 yr Well, if we don't have luck with #7 today, maybe we'll have luck with #27 starting tomorrow? That is just over the 13 mil some people thought he would take. Plus, I'd say our latin population is decent.....
December 7, 200321 yr Montreal has more LATIN players not a more Latin city than Baltimore. BTW Baltimore is about 2/3 black and 1/3 white, latins are a very small minority.

December 7, 200321 yr I disagree, I think Vlad would come down 10% to play on the 2nd Latin America -------> Miami and be two hours away flight from the Dominican Republic. dude, you could say that about essentially any latin american ballplayer... without starting a whole new argument, i'll just say he's a professional and he'll be paid what he's worth. why would he accept 10 million less to play in miami? it's not like miami is his home town, and the fans here suck almost as much as the fans in MTL, Puerto Rico, and prob Mexico.
December 7, 200321 yr 2nd Latin America -------> Miami No, your wrong. Miami is the CAPITAL of Latin America.
December 7, 200321 yr Montreal has more LATIN players not a more Latin city than Baltimore. BTW Baltimore is about 2/3 black and 1/3 white, latins are a very small minority. There's more Poles, Vietnamese and Uzbekis in Baltimore than latinos.
December 8, 200321 yr Well Juanky better give up his Hope in Vlad coming here. We cant afford him. If we cant afford Pudge then imagine trying to sign Vlad. We just dont have a shot at him.
December 8, 200321 yr Author Well Juanky better give up his Hope in Vlad coming here. We cant afford him. If we cant afford Pudge then imagine trying to sign Vlad. We just dont have a shot at him. link? and we COULD offer Pudge $10mil, IF he was WORTH that money
December 8, 200321 yr Well Juanky better give up his Hope in Vlad coming here. We cant afford him. If we cant afford Pudge then imagine trying to sign Vlad. We just dont have a shot at him. I'm sorry, but I choose to not give hope. Those who give up hope give up life.

Is like taking North Miami and looking at population only there.
December 8, 200321 yr I dont give up either... Vlad forget MTL offer take $2 mill less and come here !
December 8, 200321 yr DC's demographic is majorly black as well, not many latins. Maryland should be similar to both Baltimore and DC.
December 8, 200321 yr hmm, what about Washington DC, Maryland, etc? Those cities are very close to Baltimore. Is like taking North Miami and looking at population only there. DC has a black majority. It's the only major US city that does, and its white, latino and asian populations are almost equal. Latinos are largly absent from the DC_Balto area outside of the border areas of DC and its suburbs (Montgomery County, Fairfax). Trust me. Pudge ain't gonna find much salsa dancing anywhere near Baltimore. Just big hair and heroin. But does anyone really know if he is even tempted by Miami's latin flare. I mean he played in Texas, but Dallas isn't El Paso or San Antonio. Surely being at home helps, but I don't think he really cares about the differences between Baltimore and Chicago. Both have large populations of eastern europeans, bad winters and are near large bodies of water. I think we're making too much of this.
December 8, 200321 yr We were talking more for Vlad about the latin flare, not for Gredo. Vlad won't take less to come to the Latino Kingdom...
December 8, 200321 yr Author MONTREAL -- The Expos severed ties with Vladimir Guerrero, declining to offer the All-Star outfielder salary arbitration Sunday night. "We worked hard at extending our relationship with Vladimir, including a revised offer on Friday that sparked further discussions," said Expos general manager Omar Minaya, who had traveled to the Dominican Republic last week. A four-time All-Star, Guerrero hit .330 with 25 homers and 79 RBIss last season. He was on the disabled from June 6 to July 21, missing 39 games because of a herniated disc. Baltimore is among the teams thought to be interested in the 27-year-old outfielder. espn.com
