Rumor mill on the Star Tribune says that Eddie Guardado is likely to leave (now signed with Seattle) that the Twins are going to pursue either Ugeth Urbina or Armando Benitez as the front runners. Either one would be a great acquisition.

Wow thats awesome. Getting rid of E.G. and getting Ugy or Armando (possibly).

Show me a team in the AL Central to match this...

C- Joe Mauer (considered the best Catching prospect since Posada)

1B- Doug Mienkietwicz (All Star)

2B- Luis Rivas (one of the 5 best fielding 2B's in the MLB and one of the 10 fastest players)

3B- Corey Koskie (One of the best fielding 3B's in Baseball and a solid hitter)

SS- Christian Guzman (Fastest player in Baseball and one of the better fielding SS, but he can't swing a bat)

LF- Shannon Stewart (1st or 2nd best leadoff in baseball, and solid fielder)

CF- Torii Hunter (Best Defensive CF and one of the best Hitting CF in the AL)

RF- Jacque Jones (One of the best, fastest defensive LF's and one of the best hitting LF's)

SP- Brad Radke (ace pitcher on the staff, control pitcher though like Maddux)

SP- Kyle Lohse (the young ace on the staff, throws some serious heat, and alot of strikes, this kid will be one of the best in a few years)

SP- Johan Santana (the "other" young ace on the staff, throws heat, strikes, but has a propensity to give up early HRs, otherwise very solid)

SP- Joe Mays (worst starting pitcher in baseball, from June to July he had an ERA of 8.6 in the FIRST INNING ALONE!, absolutely awful pitcher)

SP- Adam Johnson (probably the best Minor League pitching prospect last year, should be starting this year)

The next 2 may not be starting next year but have shots...

SP- Grant Balfour

SP- J.D. Durbin

RP- J.C. Romero

RP- Juan Rincon

RP- Tony Fiore

Setup- Carlos Silva

Setup- Joe Nathan

Closer- ?

But the Twins are rumored to be after Benitez or Urbina as a closer and rumors in the Pioneer Press are that maybe Maddux or Millwood would be pursued.

But for sure the Twins are pursuing Benitez and Urbina.

Trust me Radke is our ace. You don't win 22 games in a season a few years back and then pitch lights out in the playoffs as he has done the past 2 years.

Santana and Lohse are the 2 up and comers. Ramp I know the Twins.

And yes Guzman is the fastest in the bigs, according to ESPN he is.

And Hunter has put up great numbers 3 years in a row along with 2 Gold Gloves and some All Star Appearances. That counts for me.

Wow you love bashing Eddie. Just for your information Ugie had 4 blowns saves in 30 opporunites before coming to Florida, Eddie had 4 blowns saves in 45 opportunties. Oh yeah they also batted a higher batting average off Ugie and Ugie had a higher WHIP but of course Eddie sucks.

(sigh)

I didn't know that.

But I do know that Eddie sucks.

Period. I've seen him pitch time after time.

He doesn't blow saves because the rest of the Twins D always bailed him out. Normally he'd have a man on base and allowed a run or 2 at least one out of 2 save opps. Thats the stat that I really look at.

And Eddie just doesn't have. Great One I'm about as good of a source as there is on the Twins here and I love the Twins to the point of blindness, but I can see when Eddie gets out there and pitches, he just gets slaughtered.

You watch, in Seattle now that he is a setup man going for 2-3 innings per, his ERA will go up from 2 (which it was for the Twins and he only pitched 1 Innning) to about 4 or 5. That is my lead pipe lock for the baseball season.

If you allow a run or two one out of 2 save opportunities, your ERA is going to be around 6, so that doesn't make any sense. You can't convince me that a .202 BAA is solely because of an awesome defense who robbed hit after hit. .202 is sick.

And Cleveland is going to be much better this year. They're not going to win the division, but they could be in the hunt for a good while:

C-Victor Martinez

1B-Travis Hafner and/or Ben Broussard

2B-Big Question Mark....rumors around here say Junior Spivey or Todd Walker or Brandon Phillips (he's still young)

3B-Casey Blake

SS-Omar Vizquel or Jhonny Peralta (they're still trying to deal Omar)

OF-Milton Bradley

OF-Jody Gerut

OF-Alex Escobar, Matt Lawton, Coco Crisp, Ryan Ludwick, or Grady Sizemore

DH-One of those 4 above

SP-C.C. Sabathia (he's a legit ace)

SP-Jason Davis

SP-Jake Westbrook

SP-Cliff Lee or Jason Stanford

SP-Lee or Jason Stanford or Brian Tallet or Jeremy Guthrie or cheap veteran pick-up

Bullpen is loaded with good arms. (Baez, Betancourt, Cressend, Riske) Plus, one of those guys who doesn't make the rotation and they get Wickman back

This team could be good for a long time. The fans show up when they win, so they'll be able to pay most of them (owner has said he'll eventually allow something like a 75 millon payroll, should they play their way into that situation) They remind me of those 79 win Marlin teams or the Twins from a couple years ago. I hate Cleveland teams, as a rule, but it's hard not to like this bunch.

Eddie gives up hits in the clutch.

And Hunter or Jones to the wall or Koskie fielding toss to Mienkiewictz is what bails him out night after night.

Ask any Twins fan.

The other reason Eddie has so much saves is that the Twins normally don't have to come back in the 9th.

Just mark my words, Eddie now that he will pitch as a setup man will choke big and his ERA will sky rocket.

He allowed 3 runs per 9 innings last year. Thats an average of giving up a run on 1 out of 3 save opps. (2.89 to be exact)

He had 60 save opps, and 41 saves, 4 blown. The other 15 he got pulled out of because he screwed it up and Gardy had to put in Hawkins or Romero. An opposing BA of .207 is like what when he faces only 3-5 batters per night. He allows a batter on base at least once a game.

A true closer shuts em' down 1-2-3.

And also the Twins have the #1 rated Defense in the Past 2 years (with 2 year totals).

For Guardados stats, they look good to the naked eye, but take a look at his percentages and crunch some numbers. And you'll see what I see then hopefully...
