January 11, 200422 yr that the AL Central gets a playoff team. I wouldn't be surprised if all 5 teams in that division go below .500 next year. Between the A's, Mariners, Angels, Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays, and Orioles, only 3 of them will get a playoff spot while all 7 of them are better than anyone in the central. Whoever's the wild card runner up will be at least 10 games better than whoever wins the central. And whoever they will be (probably Anaheim) would have a right to be pissed off.

If we're gonna throw this fit, let's just have 2 big huge leagues and the top 4 from each can get in. If you can't win YOUR division or the Wild Card, you have nobody but yourself to blame.

January 12, 200422 yr Did you know that the AL West 2nd place Mariners finished with a better record than the AL Central champions Twins last year playing a tougher schedule? Or that the Phillies and Blue Jays may have finished with better records thean the Twins and Cubs if played they similar schedules. They aren't going to go back to two divisions. Or no divisions. They'll keep on expanding the playoff system. More money to be made that way.
January 12, 200422 yr I strongly disagree. The divisional system is working very well. Everyone knows that some divisions are tougher than others. And you know why? Most of these teams have really low fan support , which in turn means less money made by the franchise, which in turn means they dont have the cash to ink any big name players. You want to blame the weaker divisions on someone? Blame the fans in those respective cities. Period. If those people would support their team and contribute to revenue, maybe this problem wouldnt be affecting us. And if you dont want to blame it on the fans.... point fingers at the big market teams with the loose pursestrings. They shell out ungodly amounts of money for players. Amounts that a team like the tigers,royals, or twins cant compete with. And just for the record, the Twins arent a joke man. Theyre for real. They were in the ALCS in 02.
January 12, 200422 yr If that were true both teams from Chicago, and the Cardinals should be able to put squads up to the level of the Red Sox. It's not the fans. It's the market. Boston, New York, Baltimore, Los Angeles can get better TV contracts, sell their ad space and tickets for more than a team from Chicago or St. Louis can. Don't put this all on the fans.
January 12, 200422 yr I didnt mean to place the blame solely on the fans, i apologize if it came across that way. But you do have to admit, a lot of fans are quick to abandon their beloved home teams after 1 or 2 seasons of mediocrity. hell, the Braves fans dont ever come to NLDS games, and theyve won 11 straight division titles. Thats just SAD man.
