May 4, 200323 yr GEEZZZ....Justin Wayne is not TRASH!! That's kind of uncalled for, don't you think? This guy always had great command. I just hope he's not hurt. Ya know...if being a pitcher was so easy, we'd all be major league pitchers!! If I were the Marlins, I would make a decision who was coming up to pitch on Friday and get their butts here as soon as possible and get them working with the pitching coach and team. It just makes sense but then again, I 've learned that the things these teams do don't often make sense!
May 4, 200323 yr looks like DW will get the call for friday's game HOUSTON - Admin Beinfest has never moved so fast. Justin Wayne was giving new meaning to the term emergency starter. He was still in the first inning, throwing as if the plate were the size of a dime and the Houston Astros were the '27 Yankees. And there was Beinfest, grabbing a phone and searching for help -- anywhere and everywhere. Before Wayne was gone in the first and the Marlins were well on their way to a 5-2 loss, the Marlins general manager already was working on a plan. He searched for two things: a plane ticket back to Triple A Albuquerque (N.M.) for Wayne, and a pitcher to replace him. ''They made me work tonight,'' said Beinfest, who called to see how young Dontrelle Willis was doing at Double A Carolina. Just fine -- eight innings, three hits, two walks and four strikeouts. Willis could be in the majors by Friday, starting against Colorado at Pro Player Stadium. Wayne barely spent 24 hours with the Marlins before Beinfest optioned him back to Albuquerque immediately after the game. The Marlins, who are off Monday, would call up a relief pitcher Tuesday, then decide on Friday's starter later in the week, Beinfest said. Blaine Neal or Juan Alvarez are the prime candidates to be called up Tuesday. Beinfest saw Neal pitch Friday in Albuquerque and was impressed. He threw out Nate Bump's name as a possible starter, but speculation is that the 21-year-old Willis -- the Marlins' minor-league pitcher of the year last season -- will get the call. Willis, the key player in the unpopular deal that sent starter Matt Clement and closer Antonio Alfonseca to the Cubs last spring, was impressive this spring, and he entered Saturday's game with a 3-0 record and 1.27 ERA at Carolina. ''He's come very quickly,'' Beinfest said. ``I don't know if you ever know when a pitcher is ready, but he's been very, very good.''
May 4, 200323 yr If willis pitches on friday i will probably go to the game because that will be an exciting game to see.
May 4, 200323 yr Right now in the Game Craig Minervinni said that Willis or Bump may come up. He said most likely Willis will be the one coming. The scouts and the Minor league Directors convinced the Marlins Management that Willis is ready and will do good in the Majors. So he better pack his bags and get a flight to Colorado! :w00t

May 4, 200323 yr I am still hoping they will give Nate Bump a start even though I know it probably won't happen. All I have to say to Nate is...keep plugging away...we know you'll make it someday. Maybe you'll get traded to a real baseball team!! Just kidding Marlins' forum fans!!
