January 28, 200422 yr I'll expand it a little bit, go who I think is the best at each position and a runner up: Catcher: Pudge All Marlins hatred aside, he combines defense, arm, contact ability, and clutch hitting. Can't hit for tons of power, but doesn't need to. Gets runners in or grounds into a double play, usually the former. Honorable Mention: Jorge Posada, Jason Varitek First Base: Todd Helton Coors or no Coors, he is in a class by himself. No one combines the glove he has (second best in the game) with the ridiculous bat he has for both power and contact. Drives runners in, moves them along, smashes lefties AND righties. Flawless hitter. Honorable Mention: Carlos Delgado, Jason Giambi, Jim Thome, Mike Sweeney Second Base: Luis Castillo There is no one better on defense at the 4 right now than Luiy. He is the second best leadoff hitter in the game (behind the guy who hits in front of him), steals frequently (he'll be back at it this year), can be relied upon for solid hits to ignite a fire or keep innings going, and and is a part of the best DP combo in the game right now. Honorable Mention: Alfonso Soriano, Jose Vidro Short Stop: Alex Rodriguez Best player in the game right now at the position that has the most depth talented players wise. ARod does what he does, and he does it for a s***ty team. I'll admit, I was hoping he'd go to Boston, but oh well. His defense is quietly superb, he doesn't try to show off with any gay ballerina jump throws or anything of the sort, hits like a beast, and is still improving. He's got cool hair too, wish I had it :confused . Honorable Mention: Nomar Garciaparra, Derek Jeter, Edgar Renteria, Miguel Tejada, Orlando Cabrera, Spot saved for Jose Reyes Third Base: TIE Mike Lowell and Scott Rolen This is a dead heat. I want to say Mike Lowell, just because he doesn't get the lineup protection Rolen gets. But in reality, it's neck and neck and not much after. Both have great defense, with Rolen slightly getting the nod. Both have great bats, with Mikey slightly getting the nod there. Mike in the end means more to his team, but they are equally awesome. For now. Honorable Mention: Bill Mueller (when he decides to play the field) Left Field: Barry Bonds That's right, I'm not lumping everyone together in one big OF category. Left Field, Center Field, and Right Field are not the same position. They require different approaches. Regardless, Barry is not the fielder he used to be. But that being said, his roids have gotten him to a hitting level unmatched by anyone not wearing the number 3, and he occasionally catches the ball. Honorable Mention: Brian Giles, Chipper Jones, Manny Ramirez Center Field: Carlos Beltran The Forgotten One. Who knew someone this sick could be forgotten so much outside of Kansas City? The man flies on the base paths. He hits like a beast. He can hit homeruns, drive in runs, do whatever you want him to do. AND he is sick wit it on the defensive side. C-Money looks like Spider Man climbing all those walls. He's got the leather, the clay, and the wood all covered. What does this man have to do to get a little love? Honorable Mention: Juan Pierre, Andruw Jones Right Field: Vladimir Guerrero The Impaler. Not sure if he'll be running much anymore, so his status as best all around player might have been relinquished with the emergence of Carlos Beltran. But don't quit on him just yet, the Dominican will only be getting better. Cannon Arm (best in the game, Ichiro just behind). Disgusting ability to hit ANYTHING. So much power he's regulated by the Federal Government. If only those Mexicans over in Cali can teach him how to be stud w/ the glove, he'll have a chance to pull ahead of ARod as best player of our time. Honorable Mention: Gary Sheffield, Bobby Abreu, Sammy Sosa, Ichiro, Spot Reserved for Miguel Cabrera Starter: Pedro Martinez Say what you want about his performance in the playoffs. Say what you want about his attitude and his personality. Say what you want about his injuries. But when he is on, there is no one in the country better. That's just the flat out truth, and there is nothing more you can say. Honorable Mention: Curt Schilling, Mark Prior, Josh Beckett, The Big Three Closer: Eric Gagne When was the last time he blew a save? End of story. Honorable Mention: Mariano Rivera, Billy Wagner, John Smoltz, Troy Percival, Octavio Dotel Reliever: Fransisco Rodriguez Octavio Dotel held this spot until Houston traded Wagner. Kid has sick stuff, showed the balls of steel he has by dominating on the greatest show on the planet, and is so young that he only has room to improve. He also has the benefit of pitching in the best bullpen in the AL, which never hurts. Honorable Mention: Latroy Hawkins, Brandon Lidge, The Rest of the Angels Pen
January 28, 200422 yr Juan Pierre Beckett :laugh :laugh that's not biased Bonds and Schmidt isn't biased either. Juan Pierre is the best possible player for the style of baseball I like and I wish every team ran, so he cracks the top ten. No Beltran on your list? A crying shame.
January 28, 200422 yr I'd take my boy Thome the beast over most of those players anyday, on A Production standpoint and the fact that a few of those players are Terminal Cancer.
January 28, 200422 yr yeah pedro is the best..... when he is on.... for 6 innings. i would prefer a horse that can go the distance. pedro has a problem with testicles...he has none. he is a scrawny little player who more often than not gets eaten alive in the late innings. if he is in there.
January 28, 200422 yr First Base: Todd Helton Coors or no Coors, he is in a class by himself. No one combines the glove he has (second best in the game) with the ridiculous bat he has for both power and contact. Drives runners in, moves them along, smashes lefties AND righties. January 28, 200422 yr You're right, Guerrerro is better than Giambi, but Giambi is my AL MVP prediction (because of his ability.) However, yeah, I'll put Guerrerro in: 1. Bonds 2. A Rod 3. Pujols 4. Ramirez 5. Edmonds 6. Helton 7. Giles 8. Guerrerro 9. Sheffield 10. Delgado 1. Martinez 2. Prior 3. Gagne 4. Brown 5. Schmitt

January 28, 200422 yr Oh btw, the reason Pujols isn't included in my list is because he really doesn't have a position. He's definately up there though.
