Super Millionaire update

Featured Replies

Things are set for Super Millionaire. Here's how the money tree will go:

$1,000

$2,000

$3,000

$4,000

$5,000 (first safe haven)

$10,000

$20,000

$30,000

$50,000

$100,000 (second safe haven plus two more lifelines)

$500,000

$1 million

$2.5 million

$5 million

$10 million

And the two new lifelines are:

Three Wise Men--a panel of 3 trivia experts (men and women) can have a video conference with the player to get an answer for a question.

Double Dip--You can take two chances to answer one question, but if you take the Double Dip, you must answer the question; you cannot walk away from that question.

Theoretically, it's possible someone could save the 50/50 and the Double Dip for the $10 million question, and be guaranteed the correct answer to win it all.

Yup, I recognized the 50:50 + DD combo as soon as I first saw the news. As I said on another forum, nearly any combination of lifelines involving the DD could be too powerful. For ATA + DD, if the results of the poll show 2 answers that have significantly more responses than the other 2, the contestant can go with the audience twice, and hope one answer is OK. (Of course, since these are all upper-tier questions, the audience might not be the most reliable...)

I'm not quite sure how I feel about these changes until I see them in action, but my initial reaction is that they should have kept to ATA, PAF, and 50:50 only.

We'll see. Millionaire's suffering from "Mo' Money Syndrome" (as we game show junkies call it), which means they're simply piling on more cash to get more viewers. It's why Greed was popular initially - a prize of $2+ million was more than Millionaire offered. But the show was off the air rather quickly, and is in perpetual reruns on GSN. I hope this gamble ends off paying off for ABC - Millionaire is still a great game, and hopefully people will watch it.
