All of these communist regimes better hope that free trade really isn't what's best in the long run, because otherwise they're screwed. I'm being brainwashed as I speak in economics, so my opinion is changing towards this manner. I will have to do an investigation.

Latin America is essentially a colony of the USA and its nearly impossible for them to catch up with us in capitalism. So the only logical option for those countries is to adopt communism to fight foreign investment.

Im just explaining why they are turning to that form of government. And honestly communism cant have a chance to succeed when the largest economy in the world is capitalist....so we dont know whether or not it works.

communism is too inefficient because it lacks a market economy and there are too many people who own things down there with military influence to begin with.

I have no proof for that, but my intuition tells me its hard to function as an economy without the US economy as a market...not including the markets of her allies.

Aristide claims U.S. forced him out

ATLANTA, Ga. - Jean-Bertrand Aristide claims he was forced to leave Haiti by U.S. military forces, according to a telephone interview with the exiled Haitian president Monday.

 

Aristide was put in contact with The Associated Press by the Rev. Jesse Jackson following a news conference, where the civil rights leader called on Congress to investigate Aristide's ouster.

 

When asked if he left Haiti on his own, Aristide quickly answered: "No. I was forced to leave.

 

"Agents were telling me that if I don't leave they would start shooting and killing in a matter of time," Aristide said during the brief phone interview that was interrupted at times by static.

 

When asked who the agents were, he responded: "White American, white military.

 

"They came at night ... There were too many, I couldn't count them," he added.

 

Jackson said Congress should investigate whether United States, specifically the CIA, had a role in the rebellion that led to Aristide's exile.

 

Jackson encouraged reporters to question where the rebels in Haiti got their guns and uniforms.

 

"Why would we immediately support an armed overthrow and not support a constitutionally elected government?" Jackson said.

 

Aristide, who fled Haiti under pressure from the rebels, his political opponents, the United States and France, arrived Monday in the Central African Republic, according to the country's state radio. He has claimed that he was abducted from Haiti by U.S. troops who accompanied him on a flight to the Central African Republic.

 

The White House, Pentagon and State Department have denied allegations that Aristide was kidnapped by U.S. forces eager for him to resign.

And if this is true, I say ABOUT TIME. If the US had a hand in him leaving, it sets things right, because they put him there in the first place. You know what? I'll say it right now. f*** THE MIDDLE EAST. Worth nothing. I wish oil would run out already so they would have absolutely no significance. Africa is more troubled than Latin America but Latin America is in the Western Hemisphere so we should pay attention to it. But why should the U.S. get so involved when there is nothing to gain.

If you want to be involved in all global issues than that is fine. But why should the U.S. have to go in and help all these nations. With politics the way they are you aren't going to see much focus on an area where we have nothing to gain. I'm not saying this is right or wrong.

You know what we have to gain in Latin America? If we don't solve the problems there now or at least start, they will become enormous and this country will feel the after effects.

 

They are right there, after all. The longer the conflict in Haiti lasts, the more Haitians will try to get over the border. The Dominican Republic will likely be overflowed with immigrants as well, more Dominicans will want to come over. The Haitians could run over the DR all together, taking them over and turning all of Hispa?ola into Haiti. Possibly worse.

If those countries can't support themselves I feel bad for them but your reason for the U.S. getting involved is not very strong. I think we are doing enough in Haiti now by sending a small amount of Marines and trying to help get a new government set up. We should do no more.

How about we just improve the country we live in already if were talking about countries to help.

I can name one country off the top of my head that produces biological and chemical agents and sells them off to rogue states. Three guesses how many miles away it is.

Well tell me exactly what it is that we should do. Should we deploy troops to all these troubled countries in Latin America? Pump more money into them? What exactly should we do to help them? I'm not completely against helping Latin America I'm just telling you that its not gonna happen. What is the solution to these countries problems? I'd love to see a democracy in place in some of these countries, especially Cuba. As for the weapons part I don't know but I am sure we aren't just letting things like this go unchecked. And who says I'm for staying in Israel or Korea? Right now Latin America just isn't number one on our list of priorities and it sure isn't going to be for a while.

I'm not saying immediately send troops everywhere in Latin America. But make an example out of Haiti. Back the democratic rebellion and squash the old dictators trying to regain power.

 

And believe that it has gone unchecked. You don't hear about them, because it takes a huge rebellion taking over a country 14 days to be reported around the US. But if someone gets hit with a rock in the Middle East, it's first page news in every major newspaper.
