  1. What about a war veteran who suffers flashbacks and ends up killing someone as a result? Murder? Or someone who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia? I hope you guys realize that there is pretty much little to no chance she is actually going to get rehabilitated, meaning she probably wont leave the nuthouse. But if she didnt have the cognition that the rest of us have, how do we put her in the same category as regular killers? I always find myself struggling with these questions b/c I feel that a lot of murderers suffer from some mental illness. Like bundy and dahmer. Even had she been convicted of mruder, she still would have gone to the loony bin, and once she was 'healthy' she would have had to serve her sentence. The problem here would be if they just let her out to wander freely
  2. What I'd like to see is the federal government make an actual effort to give half a damn about the working man. This is NOT the kind of legislation for a local or municipal government, IMO. Thats tricky, we def dont want the feds getting involved in this at all. god forbid something like this happened at the federal level, itll increase outsourcing, more businesses will leave the US for other markets. Itll be a huge mess. The 'working man' in this country is very well treated, with plenty of labor laws protecting us. These measures still need to work within the scope of capitalism, where a company can pay workers well but sitll profit
  3. Wait, let me get this straight, because one parent felt enough outrage about a book about kids in Cuba that had no political discussion whatsoever was offended and feared that his daughter might read the book, the whole series of books get yanked off the shelves of every public school library in Dade County. You think that's perfectly ok? How about this, the parent takes a little responsibilty (yes, I know that's asking a lot in this day and age) and tells their kid they don't want them reading that book. The kid listens if she respects her parents and that's that. It's silly that outraged parents are getting up in arms over this book. That is an opinion. The facts are: a book offended a parent. He brought it to the attention of the school board and other parents. Those parents agreed with the first parent and the school board did as well. Consequently, no matter how "silly" you may think it is, the book was deemed unacceptable. The issue is: Does a public school board have the authority to remove a book from library shelves? Because if they do not, then public schools can have subscriptions to Hustler and the school board has no say in the matter. If a line can be drawn between what is permitted and what is not, then the school board has the authority to draw that line within their own jurisdiction. Exactly, people seem to be missing the real issue Yeah, I asked the same question earlier and no one has answered it logically on this post. The schoolboard often does not allow several books into it's curriculum. Is that unconstitutional? Where is all the media atttention on those books? I believe the people who are making this a really big deal is the ACLU. That is my opinion. They are always interfering. The problem with the ACLU is which battles it picks. And everytime people tlak about the ALCU bias and which groups they often support, supporters always come back and give a few examples of times the ACLU defended someone different. Point is for the most part the ACLU picks battles that support the 'liberal' side. I hate using those words, but the facts speak for themselves.
  4. I agree with you Ice Man, but you wouldnt believe how many people actually like LBJ. I think hes one of the worst presidents ever and thats without even counting vietnam. By the way, i dont talk out of my ass, I have good reasons why, and feel free to IM me if you want to discuss. Clinton was a good president, b/c he worked well with a republican congress in getting things done (After 1994). I'm tlaking domestically mostly
  5. Moehler should be used for mop-ups or when we need relief for one or two innings. I rather have mitre be the 6th starter if needed as well Me too - but I do commend Moehler's attitude. Agreed. My main argument is that having moehler healthy will help is more than hurt us, and hes more useful than just in mop-up games
  6. Getting JP back for pinto would be kinda cool, itll be like getting nolasco for free.
  7. GM why didnt you like clinton? Too conservative? I think he was one of the better presidents we had in the 20th century.

  9. but wasnt dtrain the #1 after the allstar break. Not only that but our offensive production wasnt that great last year. I think train for the msot part pitched better last year aND also had a better D behind him
  10. Moehler should be used for mop-ups or when we need relief for one or two innings. I rather have mitre be the 6th starter if needed as well
  11. Just got this in my e-mail... ***USATODAY.com Breaking News*** HOUSTON -- A jury found Andrea Yates not guilty in the drowning deaths of her young children in the bathtub of their suburban home. Yates will be committed to a state mental hospital, with periodic hearings before a judge to determine whether she should be released. If convicted, she would have faced life in prison. For more on this story, go to http://www.usatoday.com. Disgusting. W/e its obvious that women is nuts. She needs treatment.
  12. Wow, you think that it's propaganda? So what do you think of the Berenstain Bears? Pro-Jewish anti-human propaganda? I'd say Cat In The Hat is more harmful to kids than this book. Of course it is propoganda. It shows a happy land of plenty in a socialist paradise. And it shows joy in total conformity. The Berenstain Bears are set in a fictional setting. Trying to equate the two is assinine. But again the merits of the book are subjective, the real issue is the right to exclude a book that one finds innapropriate. Propaganda? It's not like this book was written by communists. This book is only part of a whole series on many other countries. Lets focus on the important issue, which is not the content of the book, but the right of miami-dade to keep it out of school libraries We've already covered that. No, it shouldn't be removed from school libraries, the content does not justify its banning. If the book talked about the evils of democracy and capitalism, sure, but it doesn't, so what's the BFD? Just a bunch of uppity Cuban-Americans that have to throw their weight around on anything related to Cuba. As a result, it took away a resource for kids not only wanting to learn about Cuba, but also for kids wanting to learn about the other 24 countries featured in the book series. No we havent covered that. Should any books be removed at all? Thats the real issue. Some people said pornography should, others think books painting hitler in a good light should be banned. Real question is and has not been answered is where to draw the line generally, without focusing on this individual book, bc then it becomes a cuban-exile vs. anti-cuban exile debate
  13. Yeah it's no worse then when a dictator was there slaughtering his citizens, or when the fighting was at it's most intense. I'd love for you guys to talk to some of the soliders that have actually been on the ground there, it'd be an eye opening experience. My brother in-law went twice as a Marine. Some of the things he tells me are really crazy. When they're going on city-wide raids and walk into a house, they have less than 10 seconds to decide upon what to do about the people in that city. What's to say that guy over there doesn't have an AK ready to blow you away? What's to say that kid over there doesn't have a bomb strapped to his chest? What's to say that woman over there is really carrying a baby or if it's a couple sticks of dynamite? What's to say they they're civilians? What's to say they're not? It's complete judgement. To say that its getting worse there is ridiculous. He told me that things there were 100% better the second time he went then they were the first time he was there. Do things still go on? Yes. Are people still killed every day? Of course. But things are getting better there. Passion got it right -- the thread starter needs to talk to a troop or two. as was already discussed, american troops are americans, they all have different opinions on the war...but hey at any rate, seems like a reasonable war to throw billions at a week while the major threat to our national security remains our own president and his policy Irrelevant point in this discussion. Furthermore, i repeat, Accord meant that its a coincidence that many liberals happen to know only liberal soldiers, not that they know any soldiers. I find on this board different people respond to the same post with similar arguments but completely ignore arguments made in between that shed light on the previous one
  14. I think you misinterpreted what accord said. He isnt say that its a coincidence that every liberal he knows knows someone in the military. What accord is saying is why is that that the liberals he knows dont know any soldiers who actually approve of the war. B/c those soldiers exist as well. For example i know soldiers with differing opinions. Ok, if that's what Accord was meaning to say, I apologize, and their's probably truth in that statement. However, it still backs up what I said previously, it's unfair, to try to back up the war by saying "Well, ask the troops", becuase they're ordinary Americans, and just like anyone else in this country, you're going to have a dichotomy of opinions, and it's not right to try to use them as a crutch for support on the war, and to use that as a sole arguement, is a cop out. Agreed
  15. .300+ average allowed 7 months in a row... I took a quick look and the only other pitcher that comes close is Carlos Silva (6.91 ERA) with 5 months in a row allowing a .300+ average. Moehler is consistently bad. Like someone else suggested he should take Jason's spot so Jason can go to AAA and get some much needed work. That's how Moehler can help. Re-read my posts, do a game by game analysis. I repeat if he allows 10 runs in one game and we lose 10-1, in the standings it counts the same as a 2-1 loss. Now for every good game he has that we've won, hes been very helpful. So stats dont tell the whole story. Game by game analysis is the way to go Throwing out his last start (he left due to injury) he made 14 starts and was horrible in 7 of them. In my opinion a 50% ratio of horrible starts is pretty crappy and that's how you end up with an ERA close to 7.00 allowing a .300+ average every single month. He's mop-up man material. No b/c in those 50% hes pretty solid. So hes still useful, much better than just mop up
  16. Globalization has another effect. If Apple's code is revealed in France, it will be free to whoever wants it across the world. Apple is better off just pulling out of the French market all together than risk losing their trade secrets. Funny thing is, if this does happen, the big loser in all of this is France. B/c ppl aorund the globe still will be buyign ipods
  17. and tell me...what use is it building schools when you bombed the kids parents? Jimmy strikes again :lol . And why does it seem like every liberal I come across has a "friend" or "cousin" who is in the military and against the war? :plain What a complete load of crap. Yeah, because their's really only like 10 soilders, so it's completely illogical that they'd be that close connected? What the hell are you talking about? Um, go to any community and I dare you to find me not one person who's served overseas? Whenever you have a big military operation, Gee, get this... You're going to have civilians who know active participants. Wow, what a mindf***, I'd never expect that. The fact that you're trying to belittle people, without offering any counterevidence, or arguement against the points they're making, is a joke. But hey, you know, you know. I think you misinterpreted what accord said. He isnt say that its a coincidence that every liberal he knows knows someone in the military. What accord is saying is why is that that the liberals he knows dont know any soldiers who actually approve of the war. B/c those soldiers exist as well. 18. People must really hate logic on this site. Regardless what the stupid book says or doesnt say, the ral question is if the county school board or govt in general has the right to ban any books from school libraries. If thats answered in the positive then we can talk about content
  19. and tell me...what use is it building schools when you bombed the kids parents? Jimmy strikes again :lol . And why does it seem like every liberal I come across has a "friend" or "cousin" who is in the military and against the war? :plain What a complete load of crap. I was thinking the same thing. B/c ive talked to several soldiers who do think its getting better out there, and others that disagree.

  21. The ultimate pro. Many guys in his situation would say "I don't want to be in the bullpen", but he knows the future of this team and he's willing to help anyway he can. He may not have pitched the best this year, although at times he's been great, but you gotta respect his attitude. Frankly I don't know what else he could say. He's a really bad pitcher. He may be a great guy but as a MLB player he's terrible... 3 or 4 good outings don't erase a year's worth of pitching like it's batting practice. Granted hes not an ace, but hes pitched in at least 6 games where hes pitched 6+ innings and allowed 2 or less runs. Hes not worthless, he can help this or any other team to win games. In evaluating him I'll take a look at his entire body of work and not only at his good outings. Bottom line this season he has an ERA close to 7.00 and hitters are hitting .334 average off him. I know the .334 is an improvement compared to what he allowed in July (.364), August (.363) and September (.338) of 2005 but it still stinks. I don't know of any other pitcher not named Brian Moehler who has allowed an over .300 average for 7 months in a row. He's a nice guy and is not worthless... he can be useful to eat innings in blowout losses. The problem is stats can be misleading. What needs to be done is count how many bad outings hes had and how many good ones. Bc if he has one bad outing in which a team score 15 runs on him, of course all his stats are going to be skewed. He's very useful as a spot starter, helped us out a lot during our 9 game win streak, and will be useful coming out of the bullpen. Plus just looking at stats you dont consider the fact that he was playing hurt.
  22. the move worked, but I still dont agree with it My sentiments exactly. It is not really smart baseball. This was your chance to really save your chess pieces for the rest of the series (and the road trip). Sanchez had been great up to that point. I could understand if he was around 100 pitches, but he wasn't even close. Nobody would have blamed Girardi for leaving him in if the results went otherwise, that's for sure. I'll respond to this by reiterating my previous point. It was a good move by girardi regardless. Two lefties were coming up, both who were seeing the ball well off of sanchez in previous ABs. Not a bad move at all

  24. Either way its never been a mystery that kurdish terrorist factions have been preparing attacks against turkey. In fact, the only time when this wasnt happening was during the Kurdish genocide in the 80s.
