  1. :w00t Doesn't Tom Selleck play first base for the tigers? no, you're thinking of burt reynolds. Nah, he got it right, Tom Selleck. Known to be a very very very huge fan of the Tigers.
  2. Ramp drop it, he isn't worth it. Not even the people on his own board like him. Apparently he is their version of Pubes. Not true, not true at all. Some can't stand me, and those were the ones you saw. Many more like and appreciate my enthusiasm and style of writing I bring to that forum.
  3. I'm sorry. I did not mean to come to your guys' forum and upset you all. That definitely was not my intent. I was just trying to say that you shouldn't feel sorry for the Marlins about Pudge leaving for money when they rid themselves of players in offseason 97/98 that expected to play for a competitive team for years to come. That was my only point and I will leave this forum now. I wish you all good luck in the up and coming seasons and I never meant anything against Marlin Fan themselves. Tigerfan76
  4. So I am pretty sure all those players weren't a fluke.? Most were brought in to win a world series only to be dumped a year later, while mainstays were also dumped in money saving moves.? They did bring in the players to buy a World Series.? There is nothing wrong with that, but for the fans that are pissed off that Pudge left because of money, I just named 10 reasons why Florida also was all about money.? Thus, if they can't see that they are hypocritical.? Good enough explanation??? :banghead how does being prior victims of a firesale make it "hypocritical" of florida fans to be "pissed off" that pudge left? i'm sorry, but your logic escapes me. The point all along was that they should not complain about Pudge leaving when the Marlins did it to their players a few years back. Those players expected to play for a winner and when all was said and done they were shipped out. Money was a factor in both circumstances, so I am just saying if you feel bad for the Marlins now, but don't realize they did it to their players in offseason 97/98 then it is hypocritical. I think I either did not explain well enough or you all misunderstood what I was saying. That was my only point I was trying to make. I am not trying to insult you, the fan.
  5. No, apparently you need to recheck the numbers. I listed the numbers unmanipulated for all to see because you are wrong. You, on the other hand, continue to fight a fight you shall not win. I'm outta here, Miami's night life calls. Maybe you'll be inspired and get a life of your own instead of coming to other people's boards and claiming to be right when you couldn't be farther from the truth. Then your source is wrong because Kevin Brown pitched in Baltimore in 95. Hate to burst your bubble but it is true. :thumbdown :whistle
  6. Jeff Conine? LOLOLOL Your credibility just died right there. Mr. Marlin was on the Opening Day roster. Yeah, he was one of those free agents we bought. Kevin Brown and Al Leiter too right? Maybe you'd like to include Rob Nen? Or how about Gary Sheffield? They were all here from before. That is just the fact of the matter. Alou came in 97, as did Bonilla. 80% of the starting staff, what won us the World Series? Already there. 77% of the position starters? Already there. Over 90% of the pen? Yup, already there. Maybe you should recheck yourself. The reason the team was gutted was because Huizenga wanted to sell the team for cheap. He was never a baseball owner. He was only ever interested in the Miami Dolphins. He could care less about the Marlins (or the Panthers, of which he did the same thing). Maybe, just MAYBE, you should actually know what you are talking about before you open your big ass mouth. Hmm, as I said, most were brought in in 96 AND 97, and the firesale is laughable when selling a club. Yes, you may have to cut corners, but a complete firesale? A club sells fairly frequently in the majors, and you dont see them doing firesales. I am not here to pick fights, but considering that you want to throw words around I am game. Go for it. dude, we didnt firesale! our former greedy ass bastard of an owner did yet you are saying its our fault? :banghead No, I am not saying it is your fault, it was the Marlins fault. It was owned by that greedy bastard when it happened. I am not saying you did it. I am saying the Florida Marlins did it. Did they or did they not have a fire sale?
  7. I am not here to pick fights That is questionable, when people here can pick up that you are and people on your own board attack you for doing so. Let's go down the roster and see when everyone arrived, because I am game too and I think I know the team I've been following all my life a little bit better: Kurt Abbott: 1993 Antonio Alfonseca: 1997 (minors call up) Moises Alou: before 1997 season Alex Arias: Expansion Draft Bobby Bonilla: before 1997 season Kevin Brown: 1995 John Cangelosi: 1997 Luis Castillo: 1996 (minors call up) Jeff Conine: Expansion Draft Dennis Cook: 1996 Craig Counsell: 1997 (traded for when he had just been called up from the minors) Darren Daulton: 1997 (midseason trade) Jim Eisenreich: 1997 Alex Fernandez: 1996 Cliff Floyd: 1997 Rick Helling: 1996 Felix Heredia: 1996 (minors call up) Livan Hernandez: 1997 (minors call up, pitched one game in 1996) Mark Hutton: 1996 (traded midseason for Counsell) Charles Johnson: 1994 (MLB Debut, he was first ever Marlins draft pick out of the U of M) Al Leiter: 1995 Matt "Iceman" Mantei: 1995 (minors call up, didn't pitch in 1997) Bob Natal: 1993 Rob Nen: 1993 Jay Powell: 1995 Pat Rapp: 1993 Edgar Renteria: 1996 (minors call up) Tony Saunders: 1997 (minors call up) Gary Sheffield: 1993 John Whener: 1997 Devon White: 1996 Gregg Zaun: 1996 Damn man, what a bought team! You just proved my point. Most of your top talent besides Sheffield, Nen and Johnson was bought and paid for in 96/97 except livan hernandez, whom I never used as proof. When you say Brown 95, that is offseason 95. He played the 96 season. All your free agent acquisitions you typed up are deceiving. You type Floyd 97, Brown 95, yet Brown started only a year before Floyd. Since you are obviously stubborn I will say it one last time. The Marlins dumped salary after the 97 Series. Why, monetary reasons. Pudge left Florida. Why? Monetary reasons. So anyone who sticks up for the Marlins after the 97 Series and yet ridicules Pudge for leaving is a hypocrite. And Mr. Know it all, no one ever said that a bought championship wouldn't be full of home grown people. The players that got you over the Top are the ones that were bought and paid for. They lied to the players that signed there and broke them all apart in Winter 97, so I do not feel sorry what so ever for Pudge leaving. Like I said, its all about the money in these two circumstances, and if you see it no other way that is because you are stubborn.
  8. I think that for the Marlins to land Pudge back Castro would have to be involved in the deal. he's talking about may 1st dude. you cant just sign and trade a player. You have to wait an obligatory amount of time before you can trade him after you sign him.
  9. Jeff Conine? LOLOLOL Your credibility just died right there. Mr. Marlin was on the Opening Day roster. Yeah, he was one of those free agents we bought. Kevin Brown and Al Leiter too right? 10. as a fan of the Marlins I am diggin this deal as a fan of dawgs everywhere I am diggin this deal and to the Tigers fan who kept talking about the 1997 team being money players.... please explain if you are saying we got all those players the year of the 97 season you are sorely mistaken.... so when you get the chance, EXPLAIN yourself I never said that you brought them all in for the 97 season, I am saying you all brought in high profile free agents to win the world series (which it took to 1997, the buying started at 1996) and then once you won the players were dumped. Thus, my arguement is if you are going to say that Pudge is a money player, then Florida was just as bad for getting rent a players and winning the series only to cast them off afterwards. Trying to say it works both ways....Here is a small list of players that were brought in in 1996/97 and then cast off before the 1998 season ended, some even before the season started.... Jeff Conine, Bobby Bonilla, Moises Alou, Devon White, Kevin Brown, Al Leiter. That list doesnt include the players that were traded or allowed to leave after the World Series also that had been with the club for a few years but then all of a sudden were cast aside in Charles Johnson, Gary Sheffield, Pat Rapp and Rob Nen. So I am pretty sure all those players weren't a fluke. Most were brought in to win a world series only to be dumped a year later, while mainstays were also dumped in money saving moves. They did bring in the players to buy a World Series. There is nothing wrong with that, but for the fans that are pissed off that Pudge left because of money, I just named 10 reasons why Florida also was all about money. 11. i will remember that... Go ahead, remember it, write it down, whatever. Because it's true, I will be at the local hospital receiving shock therapy if the white sox and their sorry a** team win this division. How do you think the loss of Colon, Alomar, probable departure of Ordonez and the Konerko/Thomas feud along with a rookie manager in Ozzie Guillen will effect the White Sox this year?
  12. The real question is, how do you think losing Pudge will effect the Marlins and their young Pitching staff? Also how many less wins do you think you will have, if any. Also, who is going to be your catcher next year?
  13. I never said a division title, but other than the KC Royals and Detroit Tigers every other team has taken a step back. I agree, Cleveland has some good young talent and will probably suprise alot of people, but Minnesota lost 2 starting pitchers, their two best relievers and their all star catcher and Chicago just lost Roberto Alomar and Bartolo Colon, and they are a team that is very unhappy right now. They are most likely not going to have Ordonez back in 2005, and who knows what will end up with that Konerko/Thomas hate rivalry! I think the Tigers have a shot at 2nd. Then again, everyone in this division does if all the cards fall right! And even KC, although they had a good year last year, and signed Gonzo/Santiago, they still are very injury prone. I think it will start working itself out come allstar break!
  14. I think he makes about a 7-10 game improvement at least on the Tigers. You have to remember now that the Tigers lost alot of close games last year, and now we are replacing Inge with Pudge. The difference he will have on the pitching staff along with what he can do with the bat should make up at least that many games. That being said, with the addition of him along with Rondell White, Fernando Vina, Carlos Guillen, Jason Johnson, Al Levine and the possible maturation of 1b Carlos Pena, 3b Eric Munson and CF Alex Sanchez and I think you have a team that can win about 75-80games if our pitching does not collapse. We are in a very weak divion so anything is possible!
  15. Just so everybody knows...I know the White Sox suck They are my favorite team in all of sports by far, and it hurts me to say that, but it's true. Oh, and just for the defense of my team though, Comiskey is not in nearly as bad a neighborhood as everybody thinks, and well, God, I can't say anything in defense of those 2 morons running on the field except that, most sox fans aren't like them. Although one of those dudes that ran on the field was a Cubs fan.... My Tigers suck too..at least they used too! Things are changing now! Kind of interesting though. The tale of the shorstops. Trammell vs. Guillen! Should be a fun summer!
  16. Have fun playing for the worst team in baseball in the worst town in baseball Mr. Rodriguez..... but hey, at least you got that extra year and extra 2 million dollars a year, right? Don't make me laugh!! This coming from a White Sox fan where they have multiple fights at every game and shady people all around their run down stadium in the Ghetto!! Not to mention fans attacking firstbase coaches!! LOL!! No, Chicago is the worst city in MLB and it has nothing to do with the Cubs. P.S. The Pudge signing will just give us a few more wins over your lackluster team next season. We won 8 off of you last season with a Triple-A team. Get a clue son! lol, look at this. a whitesox/tigers rivalry on a florida site. gotta love it. we will see much more of this this season. I hope you are ready for the Tigers because we are not the pushovers that we have been the past few years! And I have to agree with tigersfan1! I visited Chicago a couple years ago when the Tigers were playing the Cubbies. Wrigley is great! But come on...your stadium is not much to write home about, and Chicago is not the cleanest city itself. We all in Detroit realize that it has lost alot of its luster over the years, but this is still a great city and area to live in! Minus that 8 mile garbage....It is actually much worse than it seems like on Eminem's movie! Good, at least you have class. For the record, my last post was directed at the other Tiger fan, not you. lol, its all good. hell, we are all Americans that love the game of baseball. We both should be thankful! If we were either in the East or West we would both be in big trouble this year!

If you read my last post, you'd see I wasn't dissing the Tigers, I was dissing the slum that is downtown Detroit. But ok, if you want it like this.... I would insult my entire family to argue with the fan of a team that had to go on a winning streak to avoid the worst. record. ever. So with that said, have fun with your overpaid old catcher. He won't be around to play out 4 years. Maybe he won't be around, but I will guarantee you one thing. He will still be playing in Detroit where as Ordonez is entering his last year of being in Chicago and after having lost Colon and Alomar your on the way down where we are on the way up.

The worst town in baseball? Didn't we draw more fans than you guys even though we lost 119 games and you won the World Series? That doesn't show me much about the fans down in Florida.
  20. Just a quick question for you all.? I have noticed how some of you all are mocking Pudge and say he is only interested in money and yet that is how you won the world series in the 90's is by buying players.? And then the next year you got rid of them all.? Kind of hypocritical to dis Pudge and then yet take pride in winning that World Series in the 90's. How high were the Mets, Phillies and Yankees payroll last season? Big payroll does not equal success, so while the Marlins did spend money in 97 they still earned the title. I am not dissing winning the Title...I am dissing the fact that some on here are calling Pudge a "money" player yet that is what your team was full of that year. Just saying anyone that shuns Pudge, and yet praises that win is a hypocrite. Does that make more sense? I definitely am not dissing your title, and I am happy that you even won it again this year! I hate the Yankees with a passion. I was just trying to make a point with the people on here calling Pudge a money player is all. He wasnt the only reason we won Juan Pierre, Miguel Cabrera, Jeff Conine, Derrek Lee, Mike Lowell, Juan Encaracnion, Josh Beckett, Dontrelle Willis, Luis Castillo, Alex Gonzalez.. they were reasons we won . Your not to bright are ya. No hamster running in that cage of yours that you call a brain? We are talking about the 97 world series win. (I believe it was 97). For someone that claims he is so smart, and is slinging F bombs everywhere perhaps you should read these posts a bit more slowly so you can process all the information.

First off all, Reason they dismantled the team in 1997-1998 was because Owner of the Miami Dolphins didnt care about baseball he justed wanted to win once and that it, samething he did with ur NHL team (Florida Panthers) Hmmm...I am hoping that the other people in this forum are a bit more intelligent than that post you just wrote.

  23. I wouldn't diss the tiger fans, they can only get better. The marlins are going to have a hard time repeating 2003. Thanks Soriano. We all here in Detroit realize that we have a tough road ahead of us, but Dave Dombrowski is doing a hell of a job to get us back to how we once were. People forget the Tigers were the winningest team in the 80's. We have had a very bad stretch lately, but I can't understand how everyone feels that their organization is better than ours. We are finally getting rid of VERY BAD contracts, and we are turning that money into free agents. Our team salary is no more than it was last year, yet we have upgraded LF, ss, 2b and C. 50 percent of the position players! I think we will be ok. We may only win 70-75 games, but I think that is better than 43. :banghead

  25. Wow, you all sound like fans that feel betrayed. Wasteland in Detroit? Sure, we may not have the talent to win the World Series this year, but we do now have a solid team with the signings of White, Vina, Pudge, Johnson and the trade for Guillen. And considering that we will be losing 12 million off of next years salaries, and another 20 million the year after that, and the fact that we are only at 60 right now leads me to believe that we are sitting in better shape long term than you all are. I wish I had a tissue for you all. :hat
