The Mets have one of the 5 most inept (sp?) organizations in baseball. Even when it looked like they were finally getting it right last year by going and playing young talent, then go out and spend a trillion dollars on the much overrated Mike Cameron and go spend a ton on Kaz Matsui when they already have Jose Reyes, who will be truly awesome once healthy. The Mets still have a lot of overpaid, old, oft injured old players. If the Mets win more than 75 games this year, I would be shocked. Oh, and they need to trade Al Leiter ASAP. and as poorly as you say the Mets are, they are capable of scoring more than three runs a game.

Seems like most here forget 93,94,95,96,98,99,2000,2001,2002.? I bet there aren't many fans of pennant race teams that would be b***hing so much.? The Mets fans are under .500 and 2.5 games out and they are on top of the world right now and can't stop praising their team. We're in 1st place and some of you can't stop complaining and forseeing doom and gloom.? Do me a favor though, if you aren't supporting and believing in the team now -- please don't ever again either.? We don't want you. in three games when the Mets move ahead of the Marlins, are we allowed to say I told you so? We are pointing out facts that show this team is in trouble. The flat earth society wants to believe all is rosey. So yes, let's gloat about being in first place by a slim .5 a game for one more day at least. When the Phillies take over first, we then will note that this team is in trouble Will the flat earth society think all is well then because we won it all last year.So with inconsistent pitching, a horrible bullpen, nothing to speak of behind the plate, an inconsistent first baseman and one has to question when Conine will get his act together....with all those problems the Marlins are 1/2 game in first place. Ya right, dreadful. Everyone has to remember that many people on this board think this is a 16 game season. we'll see who is right. unless this team adds some new bats, they will finish in third place, maybe fourth.

As someone mentioned before, this team is playing really bad baseball. Only a couple hitters are consistant in the lineup and that wont get it done. Something seriously needs to be done to wake this team up. Cause its no fun watching your team play like crap every night, and watching a team like the phils work their way up on us is just BLAH! IMO is the offense needs to pick up the pace. i honestly believe that our pitchers dont have faith in our O so they have more pressure put on them to pitch a near perfect game every night, and Oliver well hes Oliver we dont expect much from him. Our offense just needs to wake up and our pitchers should cruise along nicely. you think the pitchers don't realize if they give up more than a few runs the game is lost? They know that more than anyone. This team is lacking severely offensively.

We are supporting them GETTING BETTER. Not blindly following a team that clearly is in trouble.

I, for one, am finally calling it quits on following the Marlins with anything more than a passing interest. After three long years of false hope (which is worse than the no hope years of 98 and 99) I have to end it and stop buying into the lie like a lemming, you should too. :unsure : Link: Everything has always been wrong! You were singing this same song last year. Listen: 1. Yes, there were moves the Marlins should have made in the off-season; 2. No, they did not make them because they needed to focus on the stadium and the long-term health of the organization; 3. Yes, the Marlins will make mid-season moves to stregthen the club; 4. Yes, it is too early to make these moves; 5. Yes, the Marlins will be in the hunt for the Division title when these moves are made; 6. No, it is not realistic to expect the Fish to win the Series again this year (it is not realistic for any team to expect this); 7. Yes, this is still a great team to follow and we are luckier than 80% of the fans of other clubs. Taken as a whole, this does not sound like the voice of Cassandra -- more like that of Chicken Little. they aren't a great team. they are an average team. They have great pitching and a few great players. They are headed for a below .500 finish. Don't bank on a significant trade because they don't have the money.

Face it guys, the Mets are coming to get you. We have Floyd back, Phillips is hitting, Reyes will come back, Leiter is back, and we're clutch and ready to strike. Leiter is already there. the Mutts are overachieving plain and simple. I dont expect that to last into the summer though. don't get so cocky thinking the Marlins are better than the Mets. Mets beat Randy Johnson and won a game Roger Clemens pitched. They are on the rise, the Marlins are in decline unless they either start hitting or they bring in someone who can.

I'd say Choi was hitting quite well. Choi hit some home runs. He was never hitting quite well. He showed power, and pitchers quickly adjusted. He hasn't done anything in a month. He hit his first double yesterday. Not exactly a productive guy.

Who expected a huge crowd anyway? 12000 is San Juan-like. better than two years ago on a Tuesday :confused The whole team is slumping right now. No one complained when the marlins were winning a ton of games. Something needs to be done. Maybe completely messing with the lineup like the other night. They are getting the hits most of the time, just cannot bring them in. Need them to step up and get those hits Look at the batting averages. Lowell and Pierre have hit all year. Cabrera has cooled off. Castillo is trying to get his finger healthy. Conine, Choi, Castro, Gonzo have been MIA all year. So don't say they are hitting but not driving in runs. They aren't doing much of anything. Team is in deep trouble. This isn't a one week slump. Take away the Colorado/SF trip, they haven't hit period all year. Why do you think that will dramatically improve?

I'm very frustrated with McKeon's management of the club. Don't get me wrong. He's an excellent manager. His in-game strategy is above-average, and his relationships with players off the field is legendary. However he hasn't been able to use the team's talent (it is more talented overall than we had prior to July last year, bullpen included) and put them in a position to win. His lineup management has been poor. His bullpen management, what he once was lauded with praise while in Cincinnati, is suspect at best. It's as if he showed up yesterday with no clue of each player's skills. With our stopped Chad Fox spiraling out of control earlier this year he used our number one groundball specialist in a mop-up role when ideally you'd want him to come in jam situations. His handling of young players like Choi and Nunez (ok, not so young) have been awful. I had always thought people's claims that McKeon loves to play youngsters were false and that he was put into that position by small-market teams and injuries. This doesn't confirm my suspicions. But Choi should be atleast be starting against every righthander, and Nunez used more than just a defensive replacement. Choi has every chance in the world. How is McKeon mishandling Choi? McKeon sits Choi vs a righty after the guys strikeouts out 6 straight times. Cordero is a proven hitter, Choi isn't. You never want to give Cordero a shot? As for mishandling the bullpen, what a laugh. What bullpen? Not getting the most out of Justin Wayne? Look at the Astros pen. They have four or five guys bringing it 93-95. Marlins have Benitez in the pen and that's it. They don't even have quality arms? Is Nate Bump better than Brad Lidge? If it wasn't for McKeon, this team is 4 games under, not 4 over.

Until we fall out of first, who can say? Fact is we have been in first everyday of this season. About doubling our combined days in 1st place over our first 10 seasons. and you think they are looking and playing like a first place team? They were 8 over and now tinkering at 3-4-5 for a while. If the other team scores a few runs early the games are over. There is zero offense and the pitching can't hold up every night. Phils have made up 5 games already and have won 8 of 11. Marlins can't win 2 straight. If you think this is such a positive sign, wake up. They Phils and Mets will be ahead of us in a few weeks, if not sooner.

I'm sorry, did I miss the last 30 years of free agency or something? News flash..... Athletes take the money 99.9999 percent of the time. It may be a good thing, it may be a bad thing, but it is what it is. No one hated Pudge when he held out on everyone before signing with the Fish last year for.......you guessed it......MORE MONEY. So why is this different? we hate him for the same reason everyone "hates" an ex-girlfriend or ex-boyfriend most of the time.....because we loved him so much, but he decided to leave us. We don't hate Pudge. Pudge just isn't worth the money he supposedly got. The talent certainly is there, at least for another year or two, but not four. Pudge was about Pudge. The Marlins get 12K vs Astros on a Tuesday night. How can anyone in this market argue about Pudge or Lee or anyone? There just isn't the revenue or the fan support to justify paying the contracts on critical players. Not bringing Pudge back was pure and simple a business move. With the budget they are working with they could have brought Pudge back and let Lowell go. Take your pick, one had to go based on finances. And until the excuses stop regarding this so called fan base, it will be this way. Maybe a new stadium will help. If the team has to pay out so much to make the stadium work, then they can build the Trump Towers of baseball and it won't matter. They need significant revenue streams to compete seriously. Right now management is spread thin, losing money and soon may be paying off the racketeering case involving the sale of the Expos. This lineup isn't good enough to hold off the Phillies much longer.

Usually I take the attitude that slumps, bad streaks, etc... shouldn't really be that alarming this early in the year, but after a little thought I've come to the conclusion this team has some serious issues that aren't going away. First off, the overall record. Yeah, I know they are in 1st and all that. But consider that they started the season on a tear by beating up what has turned out to be a terrible Montreal team, and then stealing some games from a Philly squad that everybody knew was miserably underperforming at the time. Other than those series this team has pretty much performed just below .500 consistently, and the problems that have plagued them have been present for the whole season thus far. Consider the issues: 1) Starters that are incosistent, at best 2) Injuries 3) No bullpen outside of Benitez, who originally looked to be one of the bigger question marks at the beginning of the season anyway 4) No offense whatsoever. The team ranks 2nd to last in the league in runs scored. Because there are so many serious issues, I am finding it hard to beleive that securing one solid bullpen arm or a proven bat, as suggested hundreds of times, is going to right the ship. To me the possibility of trading or signing someone is a band-aid over a bullet wound, and that's while ignoring money/payroll issues which are a factor as well. I'm pretty doubtful that AJ's return will be the answer, as well. I doubt he is going to return from TJ surgery on a white horse, dealing shutouts here and there and coming back to heal all the ills of the Marlins. Obviously, there is no guarantee that he'll even be good, much less great. Besides, last time I checked AJ wasn't an all-star at the plate, nor could he serve both as a starter and a releiver at the same time. Before you flame me out, consider that all I'm trying to say is that the indicators are there. If the team misses the playoffs this fall I don't think anyone will be sitting around scratching their heads and wondering why. Well, everything I've said about this team being very average now and Choi NOT being the answer against lefty pitching has proven out 100% accurate. But for the insights I repeatedly make on this board, I get banned for saying Cordero is a better answer vs. lefties than Choi. And for saying Redman wasn't worth 3.9 mil and that Burnett would be back in early June not July. I hope the moderators here pay a little closer to the content and the credibity of the posters. Sometimes reality is tough to take. If this team doesn't make a trade for a hitter soon, the season is over.

The third game of the series should get great attendance... awesome pitching matchup. And Dontrelle will attract a crowd, too. Why do you people even pretend attendance will be good? Same statements all the time, boasting like 14K is some great number. They announced 12K Tuesday and maybe there was 9k. Attendance will ebb and flow around 12K on week days, 20-21K on Friday and close to 30K on Saturdays if there is a good promotion. Sundays will always be about 12-15K. This is such a tired topic. And with the team being very average right now, if they slump more attendance will be brutally low.
