1. Ft. Worth Star-Telegram says that Beckett is going to Boston (according to sources). ESPN says that it is down to either Lester or Sanchez. http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/13227318.htm http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2232211
2. red flag...is Sanchez hurt? 872858 Why do you ask? He threw 7 3-hit innings with 11 Ks on Thursday night, I believe. And that was with several ML scouts watching. I just think that Theo realizes that the prospects he was willing to trade last week (Shoppach, Alvarez, Moss) are not the ones that are going to get him big returns, so he expanded the list to include Sanchez.
3. What the hell is ponson doing hes pitching now.i would expect them to bench him or something with the trade talk. 871937 Why would they bench him if nothing is official? 871938 Plus, the national ESPN Radio show just mentioned that they are expecting a statement from Nevin's agent shortly rejecting the trade to Baltimore.
4. Well, they have no room for Lowell now. Maybe the one thing we've haven't about is this: The O's simply don't know what they're doing and don't know how to react in a pennant race. 871721 Forget pennant race. They are simply a very poorly run franchise all year around.
5. That isn't realistic. They wouldnt trade a starter until they knew for sure they would be getting Burnett and for the Marlins Nevin wouldn't improve anything. 871709 Well, they can still go after one of the other available starters. I'm betting that they can get Weaver or one of the other names floating around for much less than they'd be giving up to Florida. Of course, Burnett is the best name out there, but if they gave up on the deal, they aren't SOL for a starter.
6. Trade still makes me want to vomit. 871269 BoSox fan lurking the board here, and I can see why folks would hate this deal, or any of the rumored deals with Boston as well. If the White Sox really had as much on the table as discussed, it's going to be pretty sad if Beinfest does this deal instead. It'll be like pulling off the trade just to prove he could.
7. how about aj + enc. 2 the pirates for bay + macowiak 869783 What's in it for Pittsburgh? They're almost in last again, Bay is young and inexpensive, and they can't afford to re-sign Burnett in '06. Bad, low-payroll teams don't a) take on semi-expensive rentals, and b) give away players like Jason Bay at the trade deadline.
