July 23, 200520 yr http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2114965 According to this link and Buster Onley said it on ESPN News. We will get Anibal Sanchez along with Arroyo. Anibal is flat out nasty and will likely be ready for us next. No doubt that he is better than both McCarthy and Penn. If this is true Beinfest needs to trade just Burnett for Arroyo and Sanchez right now. This is a great deal for us. Also Travis Chick and another prospect where traded to the Reds for Joe Randa
July 23, 200520 yr The Marlins have shown so far they want a deal that gets rid of Lowell's contract. IMO they won't trade AJ by himself until they're certain they can't get rid of Lowell's fugly contract.

July 24, 200520 yr Personally I say screw Burnett if we have to give up Sanchez. And if we have to take Lowell then someone is BSing on front street because theres no way that happens. Plus I highy doubt Theo will part with one of hte top pitching prospects in the league.

July 24, 200520 yr On the BBTN that is airing right now, for some reason Steve Phillips insisted that we had to do the Orioles deal because it was the only one that included a closer-type reliever in Julio. Um...Steve? We've got a good closer already. His name is Todd Jones. The Orioles package is by far the worst of the potential AJ deals available. I see why the Mets fired him. Oh yeah, and I'm definitely an Arroyo fan. He'd do well in the big park and to boot, he'd be playing close to his hometown. This would be a pretty nice trade.
July 24, 200520 yr yea, like toronto and tampa bay :plain 872053[/snapback] Well, let's look at runs scored per ESPN (7/23) Toronto - 487 Tampa Bay - 438 If Toronto were in the NL, they'd rank 3rd behind Cincinnati and St. Louis. If Tampa were in the NL East, they'd be 3rd in the division - ahead of the Nationals, the Mets, and yes - the Marlins.

July 24, 200520 yr I'll say it again, the quickest way to hurt yourself is to give little Theo a chance to send AJ or some other talent back into the NL East.
July 24, 200520 yr Red Sox officials have spent a fair amount of time pumping up Sanchez of late, behavior that is always curious at this time of year. Sox officials have made it relatively clear that they would part with Papelbon, Lester or infielder Hanley Ramirez under only the most special of circumstances, which is to say that all three players are virtually untouchable. Sanchez and Delcarmen might be different cases, though it remains unclear whether either (or both) would be enough to fulfill a package for someone like Schmidt Boston Herald It seem the Sox could be looking at other pitchers as well, but it seem Sanchez isn't untouchable :mischief2
July 24, 200520 yr It just read somewhere in the last hour, I'm sure some enterprising poster will find it and post it, but the report was the Red Sox were doing everything they could to engage the Marlins in a dialogue and the Marlins aren't interested. If the Red Sox want Wagner so badly it looks like they'll have to find another chump to help them, it isn't going to be Admin Beinfest.
July 24, 200520 yr as long as mikey isnt in the deal, OK, on another note, i read it as BURNETT TRADED TO BOSTON!!!!!!! and died..
July 24, 200520 yr Author http://www.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/conte...rlins_0724.html http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sport...ll/12210161.htm Please.....Please......Please Beinfest trade Burnett to Boston for ANIBAL SANCHEZ and Bronson Arroyo. I don't care what previous relations they have had in the past this deal is to good to be true. I bet Arroyo will put up better # here than Pavano did and we will be able to keep him for another 2 years after this season as well + we also get Anibal Sanchez who has great stuff and top of rotation potential. If we get him he will be our #1 pitching prospect not to mention he is also very close to being major league ready. Look at his # http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...milb&pid=434671 Do it Beinfest!!!!!!!!
July 24, 200520 yr Again from a Red Sox standpoint I would much rather walk away and keep Arroyo and a potential ace then taking a risk with Burnett. Im really not sure if id even do Sanchez for Burnett, thats how good Sanchez could be. hes 21 and hes been dominating at every level hes been to. Arroyo is a good young SP and if the cost is Sanchez to upgrade, Theo just walk away its not worth it. Plus the Red Sox arent stupid and that trade would never happen.

July 24, 200520 yr The Palm Beach Post reports that the Red Sox may be in the lead to acquire A.J. Burnett from the Marlins. The Orioles are said to have dropped out of the bidding, leaving the Red Sox, White Sox and Blue Jays as the main teams going after Burnett. The Post reports that the Red Sox may be willing to part with both Bronson Arroyo and Anibal Sanchez, although that seems like an awful lot to pay for a guy who is a free agent in a couple months. Jul. 24 - 9:04 am et -- RotoWorld.com Wondering if you Sawx fans out there or anyone else who knows could enlighten me and possibly others on Sanchez. Is he a top prospect for you guys, how's he looked this season, etc?
July 24, 200520 yr Im a huge Red Sox fan and a HUGE Sanchez fan. Last year in Low A Lowell Sanchez went 3-4 with a 1.77 ERA. This season in High A Wilmigton he continued to dominate with a 2.41 ERA, and was promoted to AA. In his first AA start he was very good, his second he was ok but not great and in his third he was flat out dominant again going 7inn, 3 hits, 11Ks. The guy is 21 and has ace potential, and after 3 starts he has a 1.28 ERA in AA. His best pitch is a plus fastball with great movement, with a changeup that many scouts call another plus pitch along with a curve that could be a plus pitch also. Im definetly NOT in favor of trading Sanchez especially with Arroyo also, thats why I dont see it happening, unless the Marlins throw in another player with Burnett not named Mike Lowell. Hes currently our 3rd best SP prospect but thats just because we have Papelbon and Lester also who project as aces also. But sanchez is a top 40 prospect in the league. www.soxprospects.com is a great site for Red Sox prospect info also
July 24, 200520 yr Background: Sanchez pitched well for two seasons in the Rookie-level Venezuelan Summer League, then needed elbow surgery to transpose a nerve. After missing all of 2003, he came back in a huge way, leading the New York-Penn League in ERA and strikeouts and ranking as the circuit's top pitching prospect. Strengths: Sanchez succeeded in Venezuela when he worked at 88-90 mph, and he dominated in 2004 when his velocity jumped to the mid-90s. His fastball is also notable for its movement and his ability to command it to both sides of the plate. Sanchez also has one of the better curveballs in the system, and his changeup shows flashes of becoming a plus pitch. Weaknesses: With an electric arm and pitching savvy, Sanchez just needs more innings and continued good health. His curveball and changeup aren't totally reliable yet, but should improve as he gains more experience. He's not physically dominating, but he generates velocity with arm speed rather than extra effort. The Future: Sanchez will move to full-season ball for the first time in 2005, pitching at Boston's new low Class A Capital City affiliate. He might not need much more than two more seasons in the minors. from B/A he's there best pitching prospect, passing up those that were in front of him at the begin of the year. Also a BIG plus he's Venezuelan with Miggy and Alex on the team. The kid is a year away, he's dominated HIGH single A and now doing the same in AA. stats for the year so far in AA he's gone 14.2IN 9H 2ER 6BB 22K, this after going 78IN 53H 21ER 24BB 95K with a 2.40ERA in high Single A
July 24, 200520 yr Let's see where we are. The WSox want to trade us McCarthy and Contreras. We want McCarthy and Marte. (Would we settle for McCarthy, Contreras and Brian Anderson?) The Red Sox want to trade us Wade Miller and Anibel Sanchez. We want Bronson Arroyo and Hanley Ramirez. (The deal on the table seems to be Arroyo/Sanchez. Would both sides accept Wade Miller/Hanley Ramirez? I doubt the Sox would.) I see a match here. McCarthy/Marte or Arroyo/Sanchez. The Arroyo deal gives us a far better chance to win this season unless we also have a way to get someone such as Mark Redman in as a 5th starter.
