July 25, 200520 yr Hey, this current Red Sox management traded the face of the franchise for two .240 hitters to get a ring. But the team they have this year isn't like that one, AJ Burnett probably isn't enough to make them a real WS contender without Schilling and Foulke. Actually, the Marlins probably have more of the pieces in place to get that far, it doesn't really make sense for them to trade him.
July 25, 200520 yr You know what's sick? I've spent so much time reading the posts on this board, desperately trying to find the latest info on the Burnett-to-Sox rumors that I feel I know the Marlins team almost as well as I know the Sox No matter how this turns out, I will be keeping an eye on our newest and bestest buddies in the South. Maybe we will see one another again? In, say, October? :thumbup

We have all of the pieces ready (except a little bullpen help). But, they have never played up to their talent. 32 games with 2 or less runs scored from our line up? Yuck. A terrible bullpen? Yuck. Willis having his second half drop off? Yuck. We just dont get it. All of the pieces are there, someone just needs to move the pawns to get the rookes out.
July 25, 200520 yr Sean McAdam, on Red Sox This Week, saying the Marlins won't even talk to the Red Sox because of bad blood with Henry from the sale, the Millar thing, and now the draft. They think the Red Sox rigged the draft to get Craig Hansen. 873691 Marlins are idiots then if they arent trading because of bad relationships. Personally I think the Marlins have been idiots throughout this process because of making someone take Lowell and blaming the Red Sox for taking Hanson. If they wanted Hanson they should have drafted him and payed the money but they were too "low budget." If they dont want to trade with the Red Sox, whatever there just being even more dumb than they already have been since they probaly cant trade him the Chicago since they will want a 72 hour window and Burnett probaly wont sign there, but he will with the Red Sox.
July 25, 200520 yr Have you ever considered that perhaps the marlins dont care if they dont move him? They are right in the thick of the playoff chase. With Burnett, Beckett, Willis. They can claim one of the top 5 starting three pitchers in the league. They have one of the most pontentially potent line ups around as well. All they need is a bit of bullpen help and they can get on a roll. They have won 4 of the last 6. Just finished their biggest west coast road trip and moved up in the rankings 4 1/2 out now. The bats are coming alive and they are poised for a run. Perfect position really for them. I honestly believe they wont trade him unless they get an offer that will blow them away. If the White sox give them something that just makes them say "wow" or the red Sox do either. Then they will. I think otherwise AJ will be in teal till the end of the year. When you have a chance to make a run at the series and your pitching would be dominate in the playoffs. You go for it.

Perhaps he should have thought more when he made his bones humialting the Marlins. But thanks for the post, and calling the Marlins organization idiots on several levels.
July 25, 200520 yr I just want to be clear, I'm not the one calling the Marlins idiots, and I can understand if they're not willing to deal with the Red Sox, and I don't think they should trade AJ Burnett unless someone makes a stupid offer. I don't expect the Red Sox will be the ones to make that stupid offer, although I'd expect my team to at least listen just in case they do. But we don't have a clue if anything we're hearing is at all accurate. 90% of what we hear this time of year is probably made up by writers just throwing junk against the wall like we do.
July 25, 200520 yr I honestly think if the Red sox made a crazy offer durring this week. The marlins would listen and if the Red sox promised not to flip AJ to the Phillies. Then the Marlins would indeed then make the trade. The Marlins dont want AJ anywhere near the NL East though.

I don't believe you can restrict any future moves - especially in this case.

But thanks for the post, and calling the Marlins organization idiots on several levels. 873779 Im sorry but if the Marlins ever want to get something done they cant be holding old grudges against other teams and insisting someone take a large contract off their hands while expecting the other team to overpay for Burnett. If they want to keep Burnett fine, but they know he wont resign and maybe they'd get a draft pick or two for him, maybe they could win the World Series but letting a big time pitcher just walk for draft picks isnt that smart.
