Marlins got Ron Villone
Ron Villone - R - Marlins? ? Marlins acquired LHP Ron Villone from the Mariners for RHP Yorman Bazardo and RHP Mike Flannery. Villone has a 2.45 ERA in 40 1/3 IP this season, but he also has his typical 1.4 WHIP. The big difference with him this year is that he's given up just two homers. He'll probably be a solid lefty reliever for the Marlins, but there is some downside here. Jul. 31 - 4:24 pm et Yorman Bazardo - R - Mariners? ? Mariners acquired RHP Yorman Bazardo and RHP Mike Flannery from the Marlins for LHP Ron Villone. Bazardo was the No. 3 pitching prospect in the Marlins organization behind Scott Olsen and Jason Vargas. The 21-year-old made one appearance in the majors back in May, but he's at least one year and maybe two years away from developing into a solid starter in the majors. With a hard sinker, a slider and a changeup, he's a potential No. 3 starter. Flannery has maybe a 25 percent chance of developing into a useful reliever. Jul. 31 - 4:21 pm et Kyle Farnsworth - R - Braves Braves acquired RHP Kyle Farnsworth from the Tigers for RHP Roman Colon and RHP Zach Miner. Probably a smaller price than the Marlins paid for Ron Villone, making this a very good deal for Braves GM John Schuerholz. Farnsworth is eligible for free agency this winter and is probably just a rental for the Braves. We're assuming he'll take over as Atlanta's primary option in the eighth inning. Jul. 31 - 4:39 pm et Roman Colon - R - Tigers? ? Tigers acquired RHP Roman Colon and RHP Zach Miner from the Braves for RHP Kyle Farnsworth. We would have thought the Tigers could have done better for Farnsworth. Colon has a big-time arm, but he turns 26 in two weeks and is still learning to pitch. It's possible that he'll develop into a closer in time. However, he shouldn't be a candidate to take over in that role now. He'll likely be used as a middle reliever or setup man. Jul. 31 - 4:37 pm et Zach Miner - S - Tigers? ? RHP Zach Miner was traded from the Braves to the Tigers in a three-player deal. Miner, 23, was given a big bonus to sign with the Braves in 2000, but he's never developed and it looks like a move to the pen is in order. The Tigers will assign him to Double- or Triple-A. Jul. 31 - 4:34 pm et Thats something I don't like to hear.

Marlins got Ron Villone
MIAMI -- Adding depth to the bullpen is a constant quest for the Marlins. The club explored several relief options on Sunday and ended up acquiring veteran left-hander Ron Villone from the Mariners for Minor League pitchers Yorman Bazardo and Michael Flannery. Villone is 2-3 with a 2.45 ERA in 52 games, striking out 41 in 40 1/3 innings. The Marlins explored other relief options before obtaining the 35-year-old Villone. Also on Sunday, the Marlins entertained an offer for San Francisco left-hander Scott Eyre. That deal would have sent rookie Jason Vargas to the Giants, who were committed to taking Vargas over Double-A left-hander Scott Olsen. Villone broke in with the Padres in 1995, and he spent the past two seasons with the Mariners. Villone has six saves this season. Glad that didn't happen . Not to bad of a deal but not great either. Im also happy to learn that Villone won't just be a rental since he has another year remaining on his contract. I can't complain cause we improved and I feel we gave up our worse top pitching prospect in Bazardo. Only negative for me today is that the Braves got Klye Fransworth who I would have preferred over Villone and is better than Villone.

A deal for an Arm
I think we overspend if we give up Bazardo for Villone. If I where a gm I would pass on that deal. Villone # are a bit deceiving cause he has a low ERA but high W.H.I.P which means his # are likely to take a dip. I would deal Bazardo and Johnson for Guardado though or soemthing like that.

QUOTE(rferry @ Jul 31 2005, 12:22 PM) You submit a bid, obviously, but with Alfonseca back our 'pen has a surplus of one-inning relievers. I don't think Guardado is exactly the best fit. What we lack is a consistent long reliever to lock down the middle innings that McKeon won't hand over his better arms. I agree...one could argue that Villone would be a better fit for our pen then Guardado.. I don't know about Villone. His W.H.I.P is really high. While Guardado is .97. I rather have Guardado over Villone anyday no matter the situation weather he is a set-up man or closer although I feel he should be the closer if we acquire him.

Burnett waits while rumors swirl
But the $6 million or so he'll get in arbitration may be alot more than Pittsburgh is willing to pay and conversely, for the Fish, compared to paying AJ $8-11 million for multi-years, Wells would be a bargain. And while one can argue Redman is a free agent at the end of the season, and thus a rental, history suggests he runs out of gas towards the end of the season which is exactly what we don't need, especially in the heat of South Florida in August and September. To me, and just my opinion, you pay more, willingly for the younger, greater upside power-pitching Kip Wells than Redman, for this season and next, where he appears to be a cheaper alternative to re-signing Burnett or an equivalent free agent. Im with u 100%. I will be dissapointed if we acquire Redman again.

Eddie Guardado - R - Mariners The Mariners reportedly have dropped the asking price for Eddie Guardado, making it seem more likely than ever he'll be moved today or tomorrow. They were seeking a veteran starter and an elite prospect for the closer, but now they are listening to all offers and may let him go for a single prospect. Jul. 30 - 9:24 am et Source: Seattle Post-Intelligencer

I would trade anybody on the farm except Allison, Hermida, Vargas, Olsen for this guy. Do you think the the Mariners would trade him for Johnson and Bazardo? i'll add Messenger as well. I know he has the tendon or something that is completely torn but his #sure don''t say it. He is also under contract for next season. I really hope we can acquire him. Then get a Kip Wells. Rotation Beckett Burnett Willis Wells Moehler Bullpen Guardado Jones Mota Alfonseca Mecir Vargas Valdez Definately playoff and contender material

Burnett waits while rumors swirl
Actually Kip Wells is a free agent after this season. He is still has one more left.

Burnett waits while rumors swirl
The Pirates are considering obtaining Double-A Carolina right-hander Yorman Bazardo in return for Redman. I rather keep Burnett now that we won't be getting Arroyo and Sanchez. I wouldn't give up Bazardo for Redman but I would deal Bazardo, Messenger and Mitchell or something like that for Kip Wells. Why? cause Wells is a power pitcher who can dominate, can actually be used in the playoff rotation if needed, and will retain his right for another season. 2005 Rotation Beckett Burnett Willis Wells Moehler IMO that is a top 5 rotation and if we make the playoff's will be pretty sick.

Burnett looks like a keeper
Unless the White Sox pay all of Lowell salary I will be extremely pissed if all we get for Burnett is Marte and McCarthy. Especially with what the Red Sox offerd us. I will be okay with Contreras, McCarthy, Marte for Lowell and Burnett though cause we save money and get talent back.

Manny to the Mutts?
LexCane55 Posted Today, 10:19 PM horrible trade for Boston Manny and 2 of their best prospects for a couple of decent major leaguers We could offer something a lot better Well with the way we have treated the Red Sox in the Burnett trade talks we will probably have to overspend dirty style in order to acquire Ramirez. I bet they demand Hermida, Allison, Olsen. Some of you think think cause of there history with us they had to give up more for Burnett than what they should have well I bet there fans and FO feels the same way.
-
Manny to the Mutts?
I think Tampa come out like bandits in this trade. Although I l really don't know what they are doing. Milledge, Gomes, Gathright, Dukes, Young, Baldelli, Crawford, etc where are all these guys gonna play? they also never seem to trade prospects in order to get better so I don' know. They are getting big time talent for Huff and Baez(who I feel is overrated)

Athletics Interested In Burnett
Well Shawn Garret isn't much of a prospect. So I would have to say no to him in any Burnett deal.

A deal for an Arm
Teal Shadow Posted Today, 04:40 PM I think the reason it taken a little longer than expected b/c this could be a bigger deal with a Gil Meche included QUOTE McKeon had a closed-door meeting with general manager Admin Beinfest, assistant GM Michael Hill and owner Jeffrey Loria after Wednesday's game but said the conversation involved things other than trades. Beinfest is most interested in adding some pitching help -- Seattle's Gil Meche is one name that recently has come up -- but is likely concentrating most on acquiring a reliever. Herald or this could be a case of Seattle trying to get the Marlins best propsect Hermida by including Meche and Villone I don't want to give up Hermida but if he is involved which i doubt and hope not it better be for Guardado and Ibanez and not for Meche and Villone. I heard Meche hurt his arm yesterday though and might be out for the year

Athletics Interested In Burnett
I wouldn't mind us getting Shawn Garrett. Who is Shawn Garrett?
-
Athletics Interested In Burnett
I would do a deal involing Javier Herrera and a package of 2 of the following: Juan Cruz or Joe Blanton and Kiko Calero or Jairo Garcia or Dallas Barden for A.J.

Latest Rumors...
Teal Shadow Posted Today, 10:52 PM ? QUOTE(Marlins Phenom @ Jul 27 2005, 10:45 PM) Now why wouldnt the Marlins do Sanchez and Arroyo for Burnett? They don't want to deal with Boston(bad blood between the two ownerships), so if Boston wants AJ bad enough there going to have to over pay IMO they would have to remove Arroyo and add H.Ramirez or just add another prospect to that deal. Teal Shadow don't u think this bad blood stuff is stupid? I mean the FO is acting like a bunch of babies IMO in this situation and by that its hurting our future. The Red Sox have the best offer on the table and a damn good one as well. We should just take.

Lincoln Holzkom
I like Resop and Holdzkom alot. I really hope Resop doesn't get traded and is in the show full time with us next season.

The Marlin Man Posted Today, 04:06 PM i think the point would be to bring him here in order to MAKE the playoffs this year. I do think there are better options though. back to the beggining of my point. i wouldn't mind giving up bazardo to aquire redman, i would mind giving up olsen. Have yyou seen the stats on how bad he ha spitch lately? He pitch good on sundya but it was against the Rockies and away from Coors Field. He lost 6 straight decision at one point and has a ERA around 7 I belive in the past 7-10 starts. Redman didn't pitch good for us in the secodn half of the 2003 season and hans't pitch good either now in this second half. He is not that big of an upgrda IMO and we will have another pitcher in the rotation known for his second half struggles(Willis). And hell no we better not give up Olsen. I'll sleep at night if we trade Bazardo for Redman but won't be to happy. If we trade Olsen I would have a hard time trusting this management ever again.

Pirates asked for Hermedia
The Marlin Man Posted Today, 03:55 PM well, no one mentioned willis. so i guess you are just trying to start a seperate conversation. and burnett hasn't missed a start since coming back from TJS (someone can correct me if i'm wrong here). he never complains of any kind of soreness or injury. saying he's not a bull dog and gets rattled easily is rather subjective, doesn't take away from his value or effectivness as a pitcher. look, my point is that having AJ for 4-5 years is well worth the packages being discussed if not more. that's it. if you dont want AJ's numbers for 4-5 years then you are nuts Yes nobody mention Willis I mention him cause many people think he is great which in fact he is not. Above average yes but great no way. I go by W.H.I.P, ERA, BAV, and K's. Im pretty sure Burnett has been either on the DL or has had starts push backs cause of pain, discomfort, or precaution. Me saying he's not a bulldog and gets rattled is my opinion but take a look at him after a batter hits a homerun off him or the defense makes a error. 75% of the times he gets pulled or doesn't do well. Why would the Red Sox give up Ramirez, or the White Sox give us a \package as \when Burnett hans't proven much and will be a free agent after the season looking for big money. I like A.J and his stats but we have have won championships without him and I don't believe he have a good enough team to make the playoff's. I rather get Arroyo and Sanchez and still compete this year and be better off for the future.

The Marlin Man Posted Today, 03:46 PM if a trade gets you a championship then there is absolutely no argument you can make to say you over spent to get that piece. Does redman deserve 5 million for a year? maybe that's a little much but it's not crippling. Redman is a great compliment to guys like willis, beckett and burnett b/c he's a great pitcher to have in the regular season. he wins you games. in the post season he isn't nearly as effective, but he wouldn't have to pitch in the post season I agree I can't agree cause we got a championship out of it. But fact is we overspent in all the deals and not by alittle. It was more luck than skill. Yes Redman doesn't derserve 5 million and if we ain't and shouldn't give him that much then he is gonna be a rental who we will overspend for. We won't get draft picks either cause if we offer arbitration he will accept it and egt 5 million or more. If we overspend it has to be for some we will have next season and will make a impact on your roster if we reach the playoff's. Redman will do neither for us.

Pirates asked for Hermedia
The Marlin Man Posted Today, 03:41 PM ? cubangm, if you ever become a gm, i hope you will have learned that W-L record is the worse, absolute worse way to judge a pitcher, please look at burnetts career WHIP, ERA and K/9 innings ratio. yes, burnett is worth that package if not more. and if you dont see the difference in a deep farm system giving away a couple top guys and a shallow farm system giving away it's only hitting star.....well....then.....i just dont know what to say, the difference should be obvious. it's a matter of value I never go by wins or losses and don't look much into that stat. I go by W.H.I.P, K, ERA, and AVG. I was reffering to Burnett as overrated cause he is always hurt or bother by somthing and that fact that he is inconsistent. He is not a bulldog out there. He gets rattled easily. Fact is right now he is a #3 with potential to be a ACE. Also if you would look at ERA, K's,a nd W.H.IP and batting average you would see Willis ain't that good either. Just cause he has the wins doesn't make him a ACE.

The Marlin Man Posted Today, 03:26 PM bazardo isn't going to amount to much.... i'm fine dealing him, redman loves pitching at the pro Thats a opinion. I rather have Bazardo than Redman. Redman will be a rental and has a clause on his contratc that he can get like 5 million or close to that next year. Or you can also buy him out of the cntract. Is Redman that good? does he deserve that much money? how many of you bad mouth in him when he pitche poorly in the playoff's and where glad Beinfest traded him. You guys where calling Beinfest a genius then. Well truth is he got ripped off by the A's, overspent the first when he got Redman from the Tigers and will likely do it again. Of course I can't really complain about the first time cause we got a championship out of it but we did overspend on Redman, Urbina, and Conine(nasty rape). This year we aren't close to as good as we where in 2003 either.

The Marlin Man Posted Today, 03:20 PM QUOTE(Flight#24 @ Jul 27 2005, 9:14 AM) QUOTE(TSwift25 @ Jul 26 2005, 5:39 PM) How this must have gone down: Littlefield: "Yeah, Admin, Mark Redman, but it's going to cost you Jeremy Hermida." *click* L'field: "Hello? Hello?" Jeez, what the hell is in the water up there in Pittsburgh? Anyone else see the irony in the fact that while some are saying "you don't traade AJ unless you get Arroyo+Hanley Ramirez or Contreras+Marte+McCarthy", you also hear "Hermida for Redman? What'r you - nuts?"? the difference is places like boston and chicago have deep farms and can afford to lose some valuable guys. our farm is very thin, especially with hitting prospects. so, yeah, it is laughable to give up hermida b/c he's the only guy who will have a significant impact with his bat any time soon No I believe its the same thing. Burnett is a good pitcher but he is still very overrated. Ask yourself what has Burnett ever proved other than he has good stuff? gets hurt frequently, and is inconsistent? He is not worth Ramirez, Arroyo or McCarthy, Anderson, Marte. Some of you are not being realistic.

FishFanInPA Posted Today, 11:07 AM ? Deal Resop and Bazardo.....heck give em Kensing and Bazardo since their the two kids whose been up way too early. Hell no we shouldn't give up Bazardo and Resop for Redman. Heck I don't want to give up either of them for him. Redman has pitched horrible his past 10 starts and has bad stuff on top of that. What is so good about Redman? Please Beinfest don't do it. And if Olsen is traded is traded for Redman. Beinfest should be fired on the spot.

Lincoln Holzkom
Great news. He was our best relief pitching prospect we had before he got hurt two years ago. Since then he has been pass on the depth chart by Resop and Messenger. Holdzkom IMO has better stuff than Resop. His problem though has always been throwing strikes. Gracesqu- check Holdzkom-check Belizario- is next
