  1. Now, obviously, Sanchez is a better prospect than him. But how many pitching prospects do we need!? And yeah, he's 24...he's also major league ready, he's not in AA. And he may have 112 AAA strikeouts, but he hit .297/.361/.520 so who cares. If he's gonna hit .300, he can strike out as much as he wants. Well Josh Williangham has like night and day better # tha him and hasn't gotten a fair chance what makes you think Granderson will? Why do we need a major league ready OF now? where would he play? how can u say he is ready after only like 20 at bats? Also that many K's in AAA don't translate well to the major's. Another thing you never have to much pitching, Look how loaded with pitching the Cubs minor league system was a couple of years ago and what has that gotten them? Guzman(hurt), Jones(traded), Blasko(hurt and scuffling), Brownlie(scuffling), Sisco(Royals Rule 5 Draft). Anibal Sanchez potential- 1,2,3 starter Chris Granderson potential- league average Arroyo > Maroth as well
  2. trade for marte and get rid of de los santos Only way we get Marte is if we trade A.J which would make Marte less valuable to us. What we need to do is make the Boston trade then acquire another reliver.
  3. Granderson is a top 50 prospect. Look at what he's done in the majors since his callup. He's major league ready and will only get better. He is not a top 50 prospect in any list I have seen he's 24 I think already. Strike out a ton of times(112 K's in AAA) http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...milb&pid=434158 Yea he has good numbers in the majors now but has only had 17 AT BATS!!!!!!!!
  4. that is like saying with more fan support, the team would win a lot more games! I disagree. Look how the players where playing for Torborg in the beginning of the 2003 season. Look what happen when Mckeon came in. I strongly feel Mckeon is not getting everything he should out of the players and a move (firing Jack)should have been made weeks ago. Example of players playing for their manager look at Bobby Cox.
  5. Granderson is not that great of a prospect first of all. If we trade Burnett for Granderson and Maroth then Beinfest really is stupud and the deal will be even worse than what O's offered us. Also tell me how can the Marte, McCarthy dela be better than the Sanchez, Arroyo deal? This is the way I look at: Best prospect in all the deals offer to us? Sanchez Most potential? Sanchez Best MLB player? I would take Arroyo over Marte and Julio so he's my pick as well. I don't know what the Marlins are waiting for especially with the Pirates demanding for Hermida. Im also hearing trading Olsen a possibilty? Why would the FO do this? If tehy did wouldn't you say its retarded? Seriouisly though im almost hoping Clement is out for 3 or 4 weeks and the Red Sox add something else (even if they don't have to) cause the way I see things going now Marlins are about to get raped in a trade and we are going to morgage the futire.
  6. DrBox Posted Today, 11:38 PM If that's what your GM is waiting for, he has irrational expectations and is howling at the moon. The Seattle/Hou trade is an example of trading for a Great Dominant pitcher at the deadline. Burnett is a good pitcher. As it is, that was 2 top prospects and a soft-throwing decent pitching prospect (Halama). And the price for rents has gone down. Let's look at what Houston gave up for a dominant player last year: Dotel and a top catching prospect. Let's look at what Chicago offers for a good player this year: Marte and a top pitching prospect. Pratically the same deal (except that Marte is better than Dotel). I'm a Sox fan and I'm against the trade. But, the Marlins are getting more than fair value, in comparison to similar trades. I agree with you. Some people here don't understand what equal value is an over value players just cause they play for us. At times I think some posters here are just as bad as the one's in the MLB.com forum.
  7. Marlins2003 Posted Today, 11:28 PM If you don't want to trade any of the players you listed above, how exactly do you get a Redman or Johnson ? Someone has to go to fill out the pen . Trade chips should be Brad McCan, Adam Bostick, Paul Mildren, Chris Mobley, Chris Aguila, etc. But none of the guys I mentioned above. Have you heard the rumors of Bigbie for Redman? since when does Bigbie have the potential or value that Bazardo, Johnson, Allison, etc do. What bothers me is that some of you guys want to give up the farm for players who ain't taht good then feel we ain't getting enough for our players so we should keep them. Relaity is Lowell sucks nobody wants him cause of his and contract, Encarnacion is playing over his head like Gonzalez and neither of them deserve 4-6 million a year, and we are getting good value from the Red Sox for Burnett.
  8. lol, well as long as you're not being overly stingy... Do you think Redman is worth any of those guys? espcially when teams are afraid to trade for A.J cause he might not sign a extension and by the way Burnett is the best pitcher on the Market as well.
  9. Also. The Marlin Man? Today, 05:03 PM Post #31? i'm sorry , my mistake, i meant to say On Base Percentage against, not batting average. the numbers i gave are the OBP against he allows. no, i dont think we can resign AJ, doesnt mean that arroyo isn't over rated as for better AL EAST pitchers: clement, bedard, chacin, mussina, johnson, kazmir, wang(when he wasn't injured), fossum have all pitched better than arroyo this year. this trade makes us better for next year, but not enough to so to make up for how much worse it will make us this year and I also think we will be able to get a better deal anyway. with all this said, i think AJ should be kept, and i think the FO is leaning towards keeping him for the year http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=4153 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=4416 If you look and compare Burnett and Arroyo both have a .311 OBP against them and Arroyo has a lower W.H.I.P. which means fewer man reach base of him than Burnett. And no way have Kazmir and Chacin pitch better than Arroyo. Bedard got hurt doens't have enough innings, Mussina and Fossum are very comparable to Bronson Arroyo. He beats them in some area's they beat him in others. johnson is better but he makes a ton. Clement has been the best pitcher on the Boston staff this year.
  10. About half an hour ago on ESPN sport center Gammons siad the Marlins might keep Burnett cause the White Sox offer doens't include a starter(Marte, McCarthy) and the Red Sox offer doesn't include a reliver(Arroyo and SANCHEZ...DROOLS ). The two teams I hate the most in baseball are the Red Sox and Cubs but this offer is to good for us not to take. Why do we need a reliver anyways with Antonio Alfonseca coming back(I don't like him but many here do) and we could always trade for a another reliver and a starter like Mark Redman or Jason Johnson. I don't want to see Bazardo, Johnson, Allison, Tankersly, Garcia. Resop, or Messenger gone. No need to mention Hermida, Vargas, and Olsen cause they should be untouhable.
  11. The Marlin Man Posted Today, 04:15 PM coming from someone who has watched most of arroyos starts this year, he is over rated. He's inconsistent, streaky and doesn't have that good of "stuff". arroyo is no better than a number 4 starter. He doesn't get many strike outs and is always pitching with a 4+ ERA. Oh, and opponents are hitting over .300 against him, .311 this year with a career average of .331. The guy is over rated. He's just not that good http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6498 Look at Arroyo stats the League is not hitting .300 off Arroyo and didn't last year either. I never said he was a stud but I believe he can be a #3 type like Pavano. Also I would like you you to find me a list of starting pitchers in the AL East who haven't gotten hit hard this year or who have much better # than Arroyo. The only one of the top of my head who has clearly pitched better than Arroyo is Halladay. Ask yourself do u really think Burnett will take a major pay cut to sign with us? This trade just makes us a better team in the long run and we won't miss much of a step this year. I would also like to say the money spent on signing # 1 and second round draft picks would be better spent on getting good free agents.
  12. The Marlin Man Posted Today, 04:02 PM these deals dont tickle me, keep AJ......and i like the chi sox deal the best anyway, arroyo is over rated How is Arroyo overrated? if anybody is overrated is Burnett who hasn't proven anything other than he is inconsistent, has a good arm, and makes frequent trips to the DL.
  13. Embree is by all accounts washed up. They've already DFA's the guy. If hanging were still an acceptable form of retribution in Massachusetts, he'd be dangling from an oak tree in the Fens right now if it were up to most Red Sox fans. As for Sanchez, the Red Sox have been on a major PR campaign to build awareness and interest in the guy, and for just that reason, one has to be suspicious why they are so quick to jettison the guy if their avowed plan is to cut payroll over the next few years. He's THE GUY they want to get rid of. Beware. And Arroyo, if you're looking for a guy to replace Brian Moehler might be okay, local kid makes good, all that stuff, but certainly not as a replacement for one of your studs, especially if you have designs on playing October. And as for Beinfest and the FO being stupid, the comment speaks for itself. I do this deal for Sanchez and Arroyo. I don't carre about Embree. Who cares if they rather trade Sanchez over Lester and Papelbon? Look at Sanchez sruff and #. A couple of years ago the Blue Jays demanded Luke Prokopec(spelling) while the Dodgers didn't want to give him up. They prefered to give the Jays Eric Gagne. Jays kept on insisting and well look how that turned out. If we trade Burnett to the White Sox and all we get is Marte and McCarthy im gonna be piss tahts all im saying. Even if they give us Contreras in return(who I like) he will cost us the remaining salary this yera and 6 million next year then he's a free agent. We keep Arroyo for another 2 years including this one I believe and he has pitched in the playoff's and well already. Yes he is no Burnett but I strongly believe he can be a 2004 version of Pavano. As for McCarthy and Sanchez. Sanchez has better stuff, potential, and better # as well.
  14. jonnyf1shfan Posted Today, 03:47 PM QUOTE(FreshFish @ Jul 25 2005, 4:46 PM) Gammons is as reliable as any media guy. btw, he pounded the table on 03 and claimed that the Lowell deal to the Cubs was inminent that not saying much! Tweek Posted Today, 03:47 PM You shouldn't believe anything Gammons says. The guy is as unreliable as they come when it comes to trade specualation. I wouldn't say Gammons is reliable but for the Red Sox? this guy is basically part of the Red Sox front office. If anybody knows whats up with the Red Sox is him.
  15. Fishfan79 Posted Today, 03:40 PM Embree is just on waivers because he has been doing so bad. How does this make their deal any better? Just like Kline and Reed from the O's all we are doing is picking up someone else's junk. This makes little sense to us. Embree I said is the reliver likely involved cause of his salary what he and he is on waivers. The Marlins don't make this deal for Embree, they make it for Arroyo and Sanchez. Just like the deal with the O's was basically for Penn, Juli, and Bigbie. Kline was a throw in for salary purposes since we where giving them Lowell. Remember the Red Sox once released Chad Fox cause he wasn't doing so well for them.
  16. Just said that the Red Sox have offered Anibal Sanchez, Bronson Arroyo, and possibily a relief pitcher for Burnett and the Marlins haven't called back. He said the Marlins FO is still upset with the Sox management and the current favors to get Burnett are the White Sox enough though they don't have the bets offer on the table. He also said Burnett has said he won't sign a extension with any oter team but the Red Sox. Then the other guy said so Burnett has soem trade leverge. I can't believe that Beinefest and the front office are this stupid. IMO they are acting like Kids. The Red Sox have the best deal on the table. The deal is likely, Embree, Arroyo, Sanchez for Burnett and possibily Reed. I think Reed is only involved cause the Marlins are not very high on him and they will need to clear a roster spot if they acquire Ambree and Arroyo. IF Gammnons said that Sanxhez is in the offer then im 100% SURE that the Red Sox are offering him to us.
  17. JJ24 Posted Today, 11:53 AM what do you propose as our lineup then, we would have three leadoff hitters. most teams are satisfed with one. I don't think Furcal is a leadoff hitter with that OBP. The Braves may use him there but he is better suited at the 7 spot or 8. Furcal has some pop as well. We also haven't been stealing bases or playing small ball since 2003.
  18. JW...why in the heck would you want Furcal over Gonzo? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=4243 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=3916 Its easy Furcal is a better hitter than Alex and steals bases and I also feel he has more potential. If both Alex and Furcal cost the same amout of money I rather have Furcal. Look at the career #. Just cause he plays for the Braves and Alex plays for us you can be biased. I only give Alex the edge on defense.
  19. To be honest I don't care if Burnett goes to another team in the division as long as we get enough compensation for Burnett or the best offer out there. I don't worry about other teams I worry about the Marlins. If Boston offers us Arroyo and Sanchez for Burnett just so they can trade him to Philly for Wagner so be it. In this deal we save money get a decent #3 starter back and a potential front of the rotation starter. If this is true I strongly believe this is the best offer out there unless we can get Contreras, McCarthy, Anderson for Burnett. No Marte we need Contreras.
  20. I disagree 5-6 million is way to much money to spend on Alex Gonzalez. All he is good for is defense. He is having a career year with the bat and his # still ain't impressive. I rather get the draft picks for Alex Gonzalez and then try to sign Furcal if he cost less than Alex Gonzalez and if the Braves don't offer him arbitration. If not I say trade for someone Jack Wilson or just call-up Josh Wilson or Robert Andino. If we give that much money to Alex Gonzalez it will be the biggest mistake the front office has made since it gave Lowell 32 Million for 4 years.
  21. http://www.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/conte...rlins_0724.html http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sport...ll/12210161.htm Please.....Please......Please Beinfest trade Burnett to Boston for ANIBAL SANCHEZ and Bronson Arroyo. I don't care what previous relations they have had in the past this deal is to good to be true. I bet Arroyo will put up better # here than Pavano did and we will be able to keep him for another 2 years after this season as well + we also get Anibal Sanchez who has great stuff and top of rotation potential. If we get him he will be our #1 pitching prospect not to mention he is also very close to being major league ready. Look at his # http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...milb&pid=434671 Do it Beinfest!!!!!!!!
  22. Toronto man! That is where the gold is Chacin and Batista, they could be good for a long time Just Hoping. I disagree. White Sox and Boston deals are better. Especially if we will get Anibal Sanchez and Bronson Arroyo for Burnett. Seriously Sancehz might be a better pitching prospect than Scot Olsen and for sure is better than everyone else in our farm system and Bronson Arroyp is a solid 3 who won't be a free agent until after the 2007 season. If true make this deal now!!!!!!! Burnett also would sign a extension with Boston Burnett for Arroyo, Sanchez
  23. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2114965 According to this link and Buster Onley said it on ESPN News. We will get Anibal Sanchez along with Arroyo. Anibal is flat out nasty and will likely be ready for us next. No doubt that he is better than both McCarthy and Penn. If this is true Beinfest needs to trade just Burnett for Arroyo and Sanchez right now. This is a great deal for us. Also Travis Chick and another prospect where traded to the Reds for Joe Randa
  24. What exactly is Boston offering? I know Arroyo but what else?
  25. I really doubt the White Sox are offerig us Marte or Contreras, Anderson and McCarthy for Burnett. If true and Beinfest doesn't make te deal he should be fired. Anderson and McCarthy are 2 guys with alot of potential, young, and cheap for 3-4 years. While Contreras has alot of talent and next year will make 6 million which isn't that bad now and days(also last year and his a free agent). Marte is a proven dominating relief pitcher signed long term for a pretty good price. I can see the White Sox making this trade. I do think they will make this trade. Fish Get: RHP Jose Contreras RHP Brandon McCarthy OF Brain Anderson LHP Damaso Marte Juan Urihe- throw in not needed Sox Get: RHP A.J Burnett SS Alex Gonzalez OF Eric Reed- throw in as well. not needed either to make this deal
