  1. SOPHOMORE SLUMP??? MARK MY WORDS: The good: Dan Uggla= .270/35hr/100 rbi Hanley Ramirez= .310/20hr/60 rbi/50sb Mike Jacobs= .310/40hr/120 rbi Josh Willingham= .290/35hr/95 rbi reggie Abercrombie= .275/20hr/70 rbi/20 sb Jeremy Hermida= .325/25hr/90 rbi/.425 OBP the bad: Miguel Olivo= .230/10hr/40 rbi the overrated: Miguel Cabrera= .295/25hr/100 rbi CARVE IT IN STONE. i will be right within .10 points in batting avg, within 5 hr+ or -, and within 10 rbi + or -... Anyone care to make a friendly bet? :shifty
  2. I bet if Anibal stays healthy he can hopefully hold an era between 4.00 and 4.50 and be a solid contributor this season with 10+ wins as our number 4 starter. Hopefully he can get his arm straightened out, we need him out there every 5th day. :cheers
  3. Blalock is a better OVERALL player.... Cabrera might get more respect from me and the rest of the non-homer league if he would learn to field like an at least AVERAGE third baseman. He has NO RANGE and is TERRIBLE at charging groundballs. He is a defensive liability and I'm not just going by fielding percentage. FP dose not take into account the balls he can't get to or doesn't even try for. When he hits 45 homeruns and drives in 140 to go with his high AVG, then he gets a free pass on his D... until then ANY 3rd baseman who can field and hit at a .800 OPS clip can be on my team over Miggy...
  4. Cool I will post my team but I'm sure I will get criticized by most of the people here because every time I put a post that is what happens. I guess some people think that opinions should be outlawed or something :whistle .... My team goes like this: C- Charles Johnson (sorry Pudge you are great, but ZERO errors in '98??? WOW.. guy was sick defensively... His bat was sick too, but not in a good way) 1B- Derek Lee (I ALMOST went with Gregg Colbrunn but Lee's bat put him over the top. He really carried the Fish in September of '03) 2B- Luis Castillo (My favorite Fish of all time and THE BEST 2nd baseman EVER- without question) SS- Edgar Renteria (A lot of people like Sea Bass but he always had trouble making the routine plays and looked sloppy most of the time- plus he couldn't hit his way out of a gumball machine! Edgar was and still is a great shortstop- and should still be playing shortstop for the fish- if it wasn't for our inept management!) 3B- Mike Lowell (He won a gold glove in '05 thanks to Rolen not playing the full season. He was also the reason the Fish missed the playoffs that year. So his individual achievement is not recognized by me. Anyway, who else have we had? Magadan? Sheffield? Bonilla? Those guys SUCKED... Lowell wins by default. Thank our lucky starts he's GONE!) LF- Cliff Floyd (The arm, the speed, the athleticism.... Compared to the lumbering, noodle-armed, out-of-shape Jeff Conine, or terrible Moises Alou? Floyd is my 2nd favorite Marlin of all time.) CF- Chuck Carr (BLAZING speed, a CANNON for an arm, and a diving catch every week is what he was all about. Without question he is hands down the best fielder at ANY position that this team has ever had. Too bad he couldn't get on base enough.) RF- Gary Sheffield (That catch in '97 series was AWESOME, and he got very good out there and possessed the best tool any right fielder can have- a STRONG throwing arm. His was the strongest of anyone we've ever had in right field- so I'm giving this to Shef.) P- Kevin Brown (Some of you may not remember him but he was an EXCELLENT fielder and I remember Dave O'Brien commenting on it almost every time he started. An average or slightly above average pitcher but he was flawless in the field. Dontrelle makes some highlight plays once in a blue moon, but too many wild throws to first.) So there you have it- with my reasons for EVERY selection. So you can't say I don't know the game or what I'm talking about. I'm sure a lot of you agree with my selections cause I didn't just go with the obvious ones that only casual fans would put. Thanks for reading! This is an interesting thread! :thumbup
  5. Steve Finley is a first ballot hall of famer, so why not bring him in and see what he can do? If nothing else, it would bring fans out to the park to watch a future hall of famer. It would be cool if he signed with us and maybe wore a Fish uni on his HOF plaque. Good publicity, and if he's cheap enough why not? Better than what we have and he can still maybe hit 30 bombs and play a nice CF. Guy has a cannon for an arm too. And what a good leader in the clubhouse he would be. I am really hoping they wake up and smell the coffee and sign Finley. What a mistake it was to let Shannon Stewert get away. This would totally make up for it. Bullpen is first priority though, but if we have anything left over we need Finley on this team. That's more butts in the seats and more wins too. :thumbup
  6. I know Reggie Abercrombie didn't have a very good year in 2006 but remember that he was a rookie. I think he showed a lot of promise and out of everyone we have he has the most potential by far. I would like to see him earn the job in Spring. I think he can be a solid player once he learns to hit consistently. Has that blazing speed that can really unnerve a pitcher when he's on base. And when he gets a hold of one it can go a looooong way. he hit a ball like 500 feet against Philly. You can't teach someone power like that- you are born with it. But if he isn't ready yet I think Amezaga did okay and he is fast enough to cover more ground than Cody or Borcho. Alex Sanchez is really bad in CF. Every ball hit to him would be an adventure. So here's one vote for Reggie but since he's not a choice for some reason (maybe you forgot??) then I put Fredo Mez. Allllllrrrrighty then lol .
  7. Hogwash. We should trade him now for a centerfielder and a closer. JACKPOT.
  8. This is my first post, and a lot of people might think I'm stupid for saying what I'm going to say. But at least read this before you comment that I'm a fool or a Loria apologist.... Miguel Cabrera is a very good player- but he is NOT in the same class as some of the elite players in the game today or in the past. Not enough so to justify the ridiculous amount he is seeking as a first year arbitration eligible player. He is NOT Albert Pujols- and I honestly don't see him ever matching any of Pujols' season totals. What the Marlins have offered him is the most ever offered in a first year arbitration case- EVER. For him to reject that and come up with a number that isn't even MUCH greater is an insult to the franchise that brought him up and gave him a chance to win a world series in his first year. Yes, he helped win that championship- but he never would have gotten the chance to play on most teams as a 20 yar old kid. Cabrera has always seemed like an arogant punk- and now he just seems like an ungrateful brat. With the pitching the Marlins have and will have for years to come- Cabrera's bat is a lot more expendable than many people might think- at least for the Marlins. If I had to choose between Cabrera or Willis- I would EASILY choose the classy, selfless player who by the way had a Cy Young caliber season 2 years ago, and has consistently posted an era under 4 save for one year. I think the Marlins are right for not bending over for this punk. If they were to cave to his demands- it is a precident for terrible things to come.
