This is my first post, and a lot of people might think I'm stupid for saying what I'm going to say. But at least read this before you comment that I'm a fool or a Loria apologist....

 

Miguel Cabrera is a very good player- but he is NOT in the same class as some of the elite players in the game today or in the past. Not enough so to justify the ridiculous amount he is seeking as a first year arbitration eligible player. He is NOT Albert Pujols- and I honestly don't see him ever matching any of Pujols' season totals. What the Marlins have offered him is the most ever offered in a first year arbitration case- EVER. For him to reject that and come up with a number that isn't even MUCH greater is an insult to the franchise that brought him up and gave him a chance to win a world series in his first year. Yes, he helped win that championship- but he never would have gotten the chance to play on most teams as a 20 yar old kid. Cabrera has always seemed like an arogant punk- and now he just seems like an ungrateful brat. With the pitching the Marlins have and will have for years to come- Cabrera's bat is a lot more expendable than many people might think- at least for the Marlins. If I had to choose between Cabrera or Willis- I would EASILY choose the classy, selfless player who by the way had a Cy Young caliber season 2 years ago, and has consistently posted an era under 4 save for one year. I think the Marlins are right for not bending over for this punk. If they were to cave to his demands- it is a precident for terrible things to come.

Have to disagree with the original poster. No matter what kind of head case Cabrera might be, he is that good of a player. Maybe not the most sociable or agreeable guy, I don't know. I've never met the guy, much less done business with him. But he is worth it. Assuming no major injuries and that he doesn't go off and become somekind of drug fiend and throw it all away, he could very well be the best hitter of this generation.

What exactly has Miguel done to be called an "arogant punk"? You sound like a Met fan. And besides Pujols who else is there better than Miguel in the NL? This kid is freakin amazing and is worth every penny he is asking for.
