  1. I liked what he brought to the table today, incidentally. Boni is my pic. He will come around. Leading the Marlins in stolen bases and still batting .274 He is a solid third baseman. Speed kills. Period.
  2. It certainly is bad part on Cody's agent. Arbitrators look at a player's career stats and favor last years more heavily. If we look at the "basic" stats an arbitrator will use, they really are rather similar. Cody: .261 BA, 48 HRs, 164 RBI, 130 R, 9 SB Hermida: .267 BA, 44 HRs, 163 RBI, 174 R, 15 SB. Looking simply at the basic counting statistics, they're basically the same across the board except Hermida has a lot more Runs. Also one of the bigger things in Hermida's favor is ABs: 1279 v.s. 947. However, the fact remains Cody should be making more than Hermida since it's weighted off of the previous year, where cody blew Hermida away. Cody: .260 BA, 22 HR, 73 RBI, 59 R, 6 SB Hermida: .249 BA, 17 HR, 61 RBI, 74 R, 6 SB Hermida against has a R advantage, but Cody has the RBI advantage, plus average. Hermida does have a 40 AB advantage but Cody actually played in more games. Now comes the major point where Cody's agent failed him: "advanced" statistics. Cody's career OPS 40 points higher. Last year it was 75! points higher. Sure they might have similar HR totals but it's in a lot less ABs, point to the rate at which Cody hits them. His ISO, ergo power, is so far above what Hermida has done. Plus there is then the fielding aspect. Yeah giving advanced fielding statistics 10 years ago would get you know where. But when a lot of FO's publicly announce they have their own system, hell the f***ing Mariner's came out and said they use Hardball Time's RZR/OOZ...you can easily make a case for fielding now. Hermida made a fair amount when comparing what others got in arbitration. Cody is not. Good for us. Bad for him. Unless Cody specifically told his agent "get me signed, I don't care the amount", he might want to look at getting someone new. Milchen is Codys agent. Cabrera has the same agent. There was never a statement "get me signed, I don't care the amount". Cody had other teams to go to. Ross did not want to go into arbitration being a first year eligible player. You need to give Ross and Milchen more credit than that. You have no idea what your talking about. Speculation is not a good post. For one thing, the Marlins still have a hefty signing bonus to Hermida that they are trying to get back. Hermida is just 24. Why do you think the Marlins couldn't trade Hermida? They think his worth is still up there. We're talking about 25 grand here. With the incentives, Ross will recieve 2.3 mill if he gets 550 at bats. After signing a 2.225 mil salary are you going to bicker over 25 grand? I think not. Ross was never included in trade talks. Marlins wanted to dump Hermida and salary. Nobody bought it. I'm not quite sure what you are saying here? I'll try to lay out my questions as best as possible: 1) How could they get a signing bonus back from Hermida? 2) If the Marlins think that Hermida's value "still up there," then how would that affect why they "couldn't" trade him? Unless you meant "wouldn't"? I'm not sure.... 3) What is the connection between your previous points and the conclusion that "Ross was never included in trade talks." and "Marlins wanted to dump Hermida and salary. Nobody bought it." -For example, if they thought Hermida's value was still up there, then why would they want "to dump Hermida"? Also, I feel like a lot of what we come on this message board to do falls under the umbrella of speculation, and it doesn't seem fair to criticize Nny for that. Let me clarify 1. By keeping him on the team to get some worth out of the money the Marlins have invested in him. Maybe he will produce......... 2. Because the Marlins wanted too much money for him. Other teams were not interested in Hemida for what the Marlins wanted for him. 3. The Marlins never considered trading Ross. They did want to trade Hermida, They tried to trade Hermida, not Ross The whole point is Ross does not have a lame agent. If you don't get that I'm sorry. For example, The Marlins tried to trade Hermida for a price and nobody bought it. Umbrella of speculation? Thats fine if you have some knowledge of what you are talking about.

  5. hermida is making slightly more money than ross.. how did that happen? Cody would play for free if you let him. I believe that Hermida has more career starts if i'm not mistaken. Anyone care to check that? 387 games for Hermida, 332 for Ross. This would be the only explanation why he'd make more. Yea but Ross is a better defensive player and his stats are higher. I don't get it.
  6. All you guys that are bashing the cf situation are crazy. Where was Bienfast supposed to get the money to fill the cf spot. His hands were tied. They have been tied since 2004. Give the guy a break. Sanchez was a long shot that was a cheap gamble. Reed is not ready to be a starting cf. Bienfast kept Ross over Reed who was batting .351 verses Ross with .076. All you stat guys would say keep Reed over Ross. Balony. Ross has way more threat, and is a much more rounded player than Reed will ever be. De Aza was strong in spring training. You guys are going to slam the only rookie on the team. What about last year? Get over it dudes. De Aza deserves the job right now. Bienfast has covered cf if De Aza washes. All with minimum salary. THATS THE WHOLE POINT remember the payroll cuts. Give Bienfast a break. Give the players a break that have made the team. Lets get ready for opening day on Tuesday. Bienfast gets a thumbs up from me.
  7. Giving up Ross at this point would be a mistake. The Dodgers regreated trading Ross. Cinci didn't have room for him, they were just covering for Griffey on th dl. Ross produced alot of game winning for the Marlins. For that matter, Ross is the best defensive player in left and right field at the moment. There are many Marlins players not hitting including Ross. Hermida is worthless in right field right now. Is he going to get better? You have to wonder what Hermida's trade value is worth, even though Fredi said he would start Hermida in right field even if he had no hits in spring training. Thats a big statement for a player that really hasn't prooven his worth to the team. De aza is doing a great job, and I'm sure he will be an insurance call up if the other outfielders don't perform. I just can't see the Marlins keeping 6 outfielders including Amezega. Somebody has got to go. Sanchez is cheap, Reed has options, De aza has options. Remember that the Marlins really think about bottom line. Is Ross a trade commodity? Probably to some teams looking for a fourth outfielder. But the Marlins would have to give up some pitching for a fair closer trade. Marlins don't like giving up pitchers. Keep Ross on the roster, send Sanchez back down, see what Reed does in the real deal and go from there. That way you don't loose any of your strength. As everyone keeps saying, spring training stats mean nothing. Right.
  8. All you guys are not giving Ross his due. You have not seen his speed. He is fast. He has the best arm in the outfield. He slumped the end of last year which brought his batting average down. I would go with Ross over Borchard over Reed over Abercrombie. Ross would have hit 20-30 home runs if given the bats. Its between Sanchez and Ross.
  9. Anybody keeping up with assists? Ross has one with a throw to home plate. Any others?
