Rick Helling...
Helling was very inconsistent with the O's, from day to day, his control would be different. I would use him only as a spot starter, or maybe long relief. He certainly shouldn't be getting too many appearances, although if the bullpen is tired, he certainly could give a couple good innings, but then again he could go give up 4 runs in his first inning. It may not be a total crapshoot with him, but it's getting there. He's probably better than some of the alternatives though.

Drew Henson to focus on NFL
Because Henson is actually good. Now, you know more than I do about Cowboys football, but I've gotten the impression Carter isn't starter quality for most teams in the league, ditto for Hutchinson. If he is, well I stand corrected, but I certainly haven't gotten that impression.

Drew Henson to focus on NFL
Yeah, in hindsight it absolutely was, but Henson doesn't want to wait behind Carr, and probably has more value as trade bait than as a backup. In fact, I remember at the Draft, Kiper(I think it was), was saying that Henson, had he played 4 years at Michigan, was as good if not better than Carr.

Drew Henson to focus on NFL
ESPN - Drew Henson to give up on baseball after minor league season Well, this is pretty big news. I wonder when he'll actually be ready to play again, and if he is as good as advertised, the ESPN crew was speaking very highly of him during the draft, and there are certainly plenty of teams looking for a quarterback out there, I would think Dallas would make quite the pitch for him. Anyways, what are your thoughts on this? I think it's good he is focusing on football, I think that is where his career is, so I will be following this story pretty closely.

Good trade or Bad trade?
No, you don't. Or at least, if your GM is competent you don't. Look at the deals around the league made for similar players. Rondell White. Eric Young. Aaron Boone. Raul Mondesi. Jeromy Burnitz. Jose Guillen. None of those teams traded their best pitching prospect to acquire those players (many of whom are better than Conine). The Pads barely gave up more to land Brian Giles! Hey, if Lowell's sudden injury causes teams to grossly overcharge...then don't trade! It's not worth it...at least, not for Jeff Conine. Yes, but almost all of those deals were pre-deadline, so keep in mind the Marlins were limited in what they had to offer, as many of their players probably hadn't cleared waivers. And not to nitpick, but the Yankees did trade their best pitching prospect for Boone And also, keep in mind many of those deals were made for other reasons, like salary (Burnitz, Boone, and Guillen to a lesser extent), and clubhouse problems or no playing time (White I believe, and Mondesi). So while I agree the Marlins overpaid (Heh, I'm an Orioles fan, so I at least like to believe they did), they needed a player like Conine pretty badly, and were forced into a deal. And keep in mind, while I don't have a list in front of me of who cleared waivers, Conine very well might have been the best player available, who had a justifiable contract, and a team willing to pay some of it.
