Sure he is the ace but this early in the year no pitcher is conditioned to go much over 100 pitches. You want to ease them in to full starts. He only went 80 something first start. It turned out ok but Gyrko got good wood on that out to center and his velo was a bit off. Without Maybin and Quienten the Padres are arguably the worst offense in the league. Against a better team that could have gone a lot different. Again no. He went 94 in the first game.
