Rockies and another team attempt move...

Featured Replies

WBBH-TV in Fort Myers is reporting that the Colorado Rockies are looking to get out of their Arizona home lease at the old Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, AZ and move to the former Spring home of the Texas Rangers in Port Charlotte, FL. They would also be interested in buying an existing or expansion Florida State League Team. Due to scheduling the Rockies must convince another team to move with them or convince a team in Florida to move to Arizona.

No word exactly on which other team wants to move to Florida.

well, hopefully they wait a little bit because there may be a spring training site opens depending on if the Expos move this year.

I hate the cactus league and i welcome the colorado rockies to florida. Maybe the team will get used to playing at sea level and win more. :lol

The Marlins will sell the lease at Brevard or the lease at Roger Dean top the new Expos ownership.

Port Charlotte is talking with the Rockies because they want to bring them here from Arizona to replace the Rangers. The ballpark is not that pretty and requires some money from the Rockies in order to bring it up to standards, but it is newer than the Rockies facility in Arizona (built in the 1980's vs. the 1940's) and they will have Charlotte County to themselves.

I don't know what would be done to even out the amount of teams in each state, either one team will have to leave Arizona along with the Rockies, or the Rockies will have to trade with another team.

I'm just afraid that if the expos move out west they'll want to have their spring training in Arizona.

If Major League Baseball moves to Expos out west they are idiots.

And evil too.

So let's see: MLB would be better off putting a team into a city that is just 50 miles from another baseball city...one that could not support TWO other teams in it's history, rather than put a team into a sports hungry city that is 6 hours from the next closest baseball town....

Yea, that makes total sense!

That other club 50 or so miles away sells out nearly game. Maybe we should move the Mets or the Dodgers or Angels or Cubs or White Sox since they only need one team.

Take your pick..

A. Biggest media market who has had their local minor league teams break attendance records and win awards?

B. Some town out in Oregon that didn't support their AAA ballclub, and hasn't supported their low-A club?

Portland is within a one hour train ride of Safeco Field. The damn train can be heard from Safeco Field!

Washington has the money, ballpark and the base needed.

Portland should wait because right now, it is like Orlando. Not big enough with two teams claiming the area strongly.

Seems like an odd move to me....I would think the Rockies have a larger fan base in Arizona than they would in Florida...

Silly Spartan! The Rockies don't have a fanbase!
