Just wondering guys, wont they have to build a parking garage now that they've taken up the land for the new stadium. With a garage, they can share the revenues of those who park there with the Marlins.

Yeah if the Hurricanes are getting a new stadium right next to this place then cant they build a facility for both facilities to share and spread the costs?

If a parking facility is built for the benefit of both stadiums some enitity will have to bear the burden of construction and costs, which could run upwards of $50 million. I assume it will be the city although the county may step up and participate.

Whoever constructs the garage is going to take the lion's share of the revenue to service the debt. A quick calculation, based on 20 years and 10,000 spaces would indicate the first $6.00 of whatever the parking charge would be will go to pay off the garage and maintain it. If the Marlins are lucky they get about the same as they get now (based on a $10 per vehicle charge), or about $2.00 per car per game.

Because UM can't afford much more than slight improvements of the OB.

As a Southwest Broward Resident, I want to say that I am excited that there is once again some positive news regarding keeping our fish here in South Florida, wherever it may be. The OB will be just fine as long as it provides the team with the income needed to keep this team a contender. Moreover, aesthetically I think a stadium with the Miami skyline in the backdrop will be a sight to see. Yes traffic and parking are a few obstacles, but hopefully these issues will be addressed. Many of us in South Florida are used to commuting long distances(I commute everyday to the University of Miami), and hopefully with the new metrorail stops planned stretching to all corners of Miami Dade (even one off of the turnpike near PPS for Broward and Palm Beach residents) and expressway expansions already underway, there will be alternatives to reaching what hopefully will be the new home of the world champion marlins.
