1. U2 is doing stadiums on this tour, I believe. They're not coming to Miami, though. :confused They always come to Miami. They have recently started and ended their tours here, but this time I guess they will be stopping by only once and probably in the second leg of the tour.
2. After months of silence from the FO, I think this speaks volumes. I have really enjoyed the fact that the "ironman" has been out of the headlines as of late. I prefer to hear from DuPuy, Burgess and others before having samson talk. I hope the FO remains out of the headlines until the final announcement in which they finally declare that our 2 time world champs finally have a home of their own.
3. I am usually hesitant when it comes to ballpark news such as this latest update, but I am optimistic for one major reason: DuPuy and the MLB brass have seemingly taken over the negotiations leaving the "ironman" out of the headlines.
4. I don't know about anybody else, but I was really affected by watching the marlins brass sitting next to san antonio officials wearing florida marlins hats. how did it get to this? I feel like a complete jack ass for renewing my 20 game pack ( especially since they gave me a t-shirt saying "I'm hooked for 06"). I hope MLB realizes that this current ownership doesn't possess the means to get a stadium completed down here and that the solution is new local ownership with deep pockets and not moving to San Antonio. If the situation reamins like this, that is, if the threat of moving remains contsant and the marlins continue luring other city officials by bringing them to our games, then I just hope they move immediately. Its like pulling out a tooth; just get it done.
5. Do you think Samson and the fornt office should upgrade all season ticket purchasers as a way to mitigate the tension? I know that while I am not pleased with what has transpired, I would like to know that my hard worked money (that for all intents and purposes will not be refunded) is appreciated by organization. There should be a way to upgrade all season ticket holders or maybe wave the parking costs. What do you think?
6. Just saw on ESPNNews that TimeWarner wants to sell the Braves. Oh how I wsih Selig would pull another backdoor deal in which MLB buys the Marlins from Loria and hands them over the Braves, and then allows one of the local prospective buyers to purchase the team.
7. I like the idea. If we make enough noise, perhaps we will have a chance to show the politicians (local and state) that we do love our fish, and major league baseball in general. Points to raise: -TV Ratings rising every year -Stadium issues: lack of entertainment options (bars, restaurants, things to do in general) before and after games. It's tough for periphery fans to be expected to go to a Tuesday night game (with the possible threat of rain, traffic, parking) in the middle of nowhere just for the love of the game. Us die hards go because we love the fish, but most Major League Cities have average fans who go to games because its the thing to do.
8. Cisneros would be a great fit. He has the bucks, and his Univision station could make the Marlins the team for all of latin america. Stranger things have happened (ala the back door deal which gave the marlins to the car salesman that is samson without allowing anyone else to bid on the team). I agree, giv ethe nationals back to Loria/Samson and let a local man with the necessary capital and political pull to get this done once and for all so we can just worry about the on the field stuff and not all of this off the fireld bullsh#t
9. you did not mention this part: "Marlins in Puerto Rico? Marlins Vice President P.J. Loyello said the team has "zero interest" in playing any future home games away from Dolphins Stadium"
10. Sweet! I can't wait to find out what he thinks of Chronicles of Narnia... :plain :lol :lol :lol I always here people say that they cracked up after reading a post. Well I never have until now. Thanks
11. Take this for what it's worth but a friend of mine who works in the comissioner's office here in New York says that MLB is not pleased with the way this whole thing has gone down, because there are serious logistical concerns with all markets being entertained for relocation, especially Vegas (which appears to be Samson and Loria's #1). Perhaps that's why DuPoy is getting involved, that he doesn't want any bridges burned with South Florida. Thatnks alot for the update TSwift25, I hopeyour friend can keep us posted if (he/she) can on what transpires tommorrow with Burgess and Du Puy. :thumbup
12. is there anybody out there on the inside who can shed more light regarding this deal between the fish and the Wayne to us die hards?
13. I received the same e-mail. This is probably the worst time ever to be a fan of the fish. I'm pissed man.
14. one question, if they condemn the O-bowl and knock it down, reposition it so that more room is made for a baseball stadium, wouldn't this knock down the price of land aquisition. I heard Arriola this morning on Joe Rose's show, and he made it quite clear that dealiing with Samson was a nightmare, but if Loria sent a team of negotiators, maybe this buldozing of the OB might benefit the fish. Nevertheless, if it came down to the OB site and the current location, I still would prefer the proposed sports village idea around Dolphins Stadium. I just wish Broward or Palm Beach would step up to the plate. Driving by the Panthers Arena yesterday, I was angered by the thought that we have a freaking hockey arena and not a ballpark. That location would have been graet for the Marlins: right across Sawgrass Mills for before and after games and easy highway access. We need something like that for the whole baseball thing to work down here.
15. We don't know if this is true. If it is true, then it clearly means there is bad blood between the City of Miami and the Marlins. The City would almost be doing this to spite the Marlins. In all likelihood, the people running the city just want Loria to sell the team to their buddy Codina and they're going to try to do all they can to force him to do so. Only then will they build a stadium. They're basically saying, "if you're not one of us, we're not going to build anything for you and we couldn't care less if you leave." It sounds scummy, but Loria should sell the team to Codina. He's got way more money than Loria. The team would be so much better off in the long-run. Doesn't Codina own a bunch of land near Dolphin Mall. I think that would be a great site for the stadium. I appreciate all that this ownership has done for the fish, but its just like fat Hank says, these guys are outsiders who just don't have the connections to get things done down here. Moreover, they just don't seem to have the deep pockets needed to be owners of a professional sports franchise. To quote another 560 guy, Howard David gave a good analogy: its like a couple struggling to get by that goes into a Mercedes Benz dealership. I hope Loria gets out now and makes a decent gain profit and sells the team to someone with the means to get a stadium deal done.
16. It wouldn't hurt to have a hispanic coach in the dugout to fill the void left by Ozzie Guillen and Freddy Gonzalez. I like the idea.
17. I would really like it if Miggy started taking ground ball practice to wake up Mike Lowell. I woould really like to see a lineup where niner starts in left and Miggy at third. I was a big Encarnacion guy early on in the year and thus wanted niner on the bench to strat the year. Encarnacion has proven that he deserves to start on this team, but I will admit that niner has also shown me something this year. I think he dserves to play more and if that means that Mikey has to ride the pine, so be it.
18. I really don't understand the support for Pierre, yet hatred for Lowell. . . . The media fell in love with Pierre in 2003, but the truth is he was never a great leadoff man.? Even at his best his OBP numbers are not great.? IMO he is overvalued right now and we would be better off trading him and going with a Kotsay type.? THe big problem with depending on Luis at leadoff all year is his durability.? When he plays he's the best leadoff man in baseball, but the poor guy looks horrible this year every time I see him.? I love that he's not a puss like most baseball players and plays through the pain.? A Kotsay type would fit nicely in at #2 and could leadoff if we needed it. 907908 I agree, couldn't lowell be back to what he has done the past years? He is having an off year too like pierre and can turn it around anytime. I wouldn't want to see lowell come back to his #s for another team and we'll be paying most of his salary. Don't forget what he has done for us in the past. 907915 Lowell's problems stem back to the second half of last year. Boog said scouts have told him that he has lost about 4-5 mph on his bat speed. Its not the same mikey who would hit line drive homeruns or doubles off of the teal monster but a mike lowell who is often getting jammed and popping up to outfielders. Hopefully his bat speed returns after a rest this off season, who knows... but as of now, I would give JP the benefit of the doubt over Lowell.
19. I wouldn't mind seeing Conine at RF tomorrow to give Enc the night off 905692 I'd much rather see Conine in left with Cabrera at third. Mike's .236/ 5 hr has really hurt us this year. Conine and easeley with half the amount of at bats have posted relatively better numbers.
20. what an idiot al leiter is... The guy is washed up and yet he still insists that he's still got it. I never wish bad things on people, but he stole 7.6 million from us and so I would not mind if his career ends soon.
21. wasn't daniel cabrera from the O's mentioned in possible dealings?
22. sometimes changing coaching personnel provides a team with a spark that is needed to wake up underachieving players. The Marlins of 2003 are an example as were the Astros of last year (although the signing beltran might have helped a bit
23. bring in tony Pena. good baseball guy who was stuck in payroll oblivion in Kansas City. Also brings a latin flavor to the clubhouse which will fill the void Ozzie Guillen left when he accepted the white sox gig.
24. Pick up Tony Pena, and make him the heir apparent for next year. He will be good with the latin guys on our team.
