August 17, 200520 yr He needs to be an everyday player right now and this how we can do it. We can use him the same way Anaheim uses Chone Figgins. Granted Conine cant play quite as many psitions as Figgins can but he can be used in the same role. Basically every night Figgins plays a different position but the important thing is he plays almost every night. Conine can be used to spell Cabrera in left, Delgado at first, and Encarnacion in right. You can also move Encarnacion over to center to give JP a day off, move Cabrera to third to give Lowell a day off, etc. Bottom line, as well as Conine has been playing lately, he needs to get more than a couple starts and a couple of pinch hits a week.
August 18, 200520 yr Author As much as I like Lowell's defense, why not move Cabrera to third and put Conine in left? 905627 Thats what I meant when I was saying put cabrera at third sometimes and Encarnacion in center sometimes so Conine can play left and right respectively in those situations.
August 18, 200520 yr He's got a hot bat right now, and I think Jack was smart enough to realize that tonight. Jack tends to go with the hot bats anyway. Dontrelle is a bad MF by the way.
August 18, 200520 yr Author I wouldn't mind seeing Conine at RF tomorrow to give Enc the night off 905692 Agreed and then for delgado especially since these guys are just coming off prolonged injuries.
August 18, 200520 yr I agree. Hopefully Lowell or Enc will be given a day off tomorrow. I'd ride Conine's bat until he stops hitting.
August 18, 200520 yr As much as I like Lowell's defense, why not move Cabrera to third and put Conine in left? 905627 I couldnt agree with you more. Lowell needs to be benched or sent down. He needs to regroup his thoughts and work on his bat speed. Conine is toooo hot right now. If I were Jack, I would start hitting ground balls to Migue and put him at third and Conine at LF.

Great job Steven.

It's a shame to see how Jack has benched Conine basically for the entire season...he still hasn't lost it, and with the way Lowell has been batting, Steve should be there instead of Mike!!!
August 18, 200520 yr Conine is not washed up, despite what people think. 905709 Who thinks that?!?
August 18, 200520 yr Conine is not washed up, despite what people think. 905709 Who thinks that?!? 906044 A lot of people. If you search old threads (most likely around the time of his slow start) you might find evidence. If you visit opposing stadiums, you really hear it. 906052 No kidding. Thats sad :mad
August 18, 200520 yr Early on in the season I think Conine was struggling a bit to get comfortable at the plate without being an everyday player as he has for pretty much his whole career. Since then though he's been on a tear and down the stretch it really wouldn't hurt to give guys a bit more rest to heal up and insert Niner in the lineup accordingly, since it doesn't seem like the team is losing any offense with him there.
August 18, 200520 yr I wouldn't mind seeing Conine at RF tomorrow to give Enc the night off 905692 I'd much rather see Conine in left with Cabrera at third. Mike's .236/ 5 hr has really hurt us this year. Conine and easeley with half the amount of at bats have posted relatively better numbers.
August 18, 200520 yr I like the idea of moving Conine around every night. And yes both Pierre and Lowell need some time on the bench.

I read that as a huge show of respect to Niner.
August 18, 200520 yr With Josh on the mound tomorrow, and the fact that we're facing Jake Peavy, this is a great opportunity to do the Conine in left, Cabs in third combo to add more offense.
August 18, 200520 yr Next year I wouldnt doubt us moving Pierre and Lowell and seeing us bring back Niner. Dont count against it
August 18, 200520 yr I personally think Conine is not that great a fielder in the outfield and a mediocre hitter at best...I also think that Miguel Cabrera is not that great an outfielder and would succeed at third base, the position that he accelled at in the minor league system. Next season I think that Cabrera should move to third if Mike Lowell's contract is not renewed and Josh Willingham should take the duties of playing left field, even for the rest of this season, I think Willingham should be used as the fourth outfielder instead of Conine whose age is catching up with him...any thoughts?

Dont count against it 906297 Lowell yes, to free up enough money to make a run at AJ/get another quality starter if we dont resign him, Pierre I am not so sure about. As much as I want Aguila patrolling center, I am a realist and don't see us getting rid of Pierre unless we get a great offer. Plus, Conine is great, he is the face of this franchise, but he might not have it in him to produce consistently for a full season. It appears as if, when Mikey is gone and Cabs makes his inevitable move to 3rd, that Willingham or Aguila will get the job long term.

Especially leftfield. He makes the most of his physical tools. He gets great jumps, not needing the speed bursts JP and Enc rely on and Cabrera is severely lacking. He sets himself before every catch and throws a quick accurate strike. Next year we'll deal with next year. Although I'd like to see both Willingham and Conine get playing time next year. As well as Hermida and Aguila. For that to happen, Enc will have to leave as a free agent as most expect and Cabrera moved to third base. However I have a strong suspicion Lowell will be with us next spring, and not at any fault of our GM shopping his services.
