MCKEON FIRES BACK

Featured Replies

McKeon made no apologies Sunday for the way he handled former Marlins starter Al Leiter. Now a New York Yankee, Leiter recently pointed to some unfavorable work conditions as to why he flopped in his Marlins return.

Leiter said he's had more conversations with Joe Torre during his first three weeks with the Yankees than he had in three months with McKeon. He added that he didn't feel "those in charge" had confidence in him.

"He doesn't have a good memory," McKeon said. "We'd sit and talk about the team or his pitching. He did most of the talking. ... I don't think that we should have had a long conversation. I let the guys play. I don't bother them."

Leiter was 3-7 with a 6.64 ERA in 17 games with the Marlins, who designated him for assignment and traded him to the Yankees. Since arriving in the Bronx, Leiter is 3-3 with a 4.80 ERA in six games.

"He's over there with the Yankees where you can give up five runs and they turn right around and get five back," McKeon said. "We didn't have that luxury. ... I like the guy, but you have to have confidence in yourself."

I love Jack.

Leiter had nerve saying what he did, and it's true, the Yankees can turn around and score a ton of runs...not so here.

Nice. I don't really understand what Al was looking for here. It might be one thing for a young player to be a little shaky and in need of reassurance after some bad games, but he's been around forever and shouldn't expect Jack to coddle him. As others have said on here, the fact that the guy was killing the pen pretty much every start and Jack continued to send him out there every fifth game should have been enough of a signal of confidence.

I am glad you do. I think he's terrible with pitchers as his record of pitchers with injuries over the years prove. He's horrible using the bullpen and I for one hope the hell he's gone next year.

I didn't much care for Leiter but he's not the only player that doesn't like Jack. Remember the meeting in the middle of the year in which they were all basically told to shut up and not talk to the media? That was because a couple of guys talked to the media and asked for their names not to be used. Unfortunately they have to keep their mouths shut while their playing for him. Wait until Jack is gone and then you'll hear the stories. I have a suspicion that even Loria is not thrilled with him this year.

Jack1,

a.I think he's terrible with pitchers as his record of pitchers with injuries over the years prove? English version.

b. Name a successful manager of any type that all of his/her subordinates like each them? Lets count them, Leiter, Perisho, Enc

Personally, Loria and McKeon are on the same page but professionally I would be disappointed in the team, not just one person.

the guy is a scrub...he should retire already all he's doing in the yankees is wasting a roster spot...the guy is a classless punk....he sucks.... :fyou :fyou leiter...hope you rot in new york...

Wow, does Leiter have some confidence problems or what?

What, is Jack supposed to rub his tummy when things go wrong? Give me a break.

Leiter has no one to blame but himself.

I don't think there was anything unclassy about what Leiter said. He just sounded like he felt more comfortable with more involvement from his management. He didn't diss Jack at all and Al is a pretty good guy (based on what other players say about him and his involvement in charities independent from MLB).

There was nothing wrong with what Leiter said, go back and read the article.

I agree.....

what an idiot al leiter is... The guy is washed up and yet he still insists that he's still got it. I never wish bad things on people, but he stole 7.6 million from us and so I would not mind if his career ends soon.
