December 7, 200520 yr CBS 4 website Miami-Dade County Commissioners might hear a resolution tonight directing County Manager George Burgess to explore alternatives for a Florida Marlins stadium ? a possible final attempt at keeping the team in South Florida. Monday, CBS4 news learned that an offer presented by Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga for a stadium adjacent to Dolphins stadium was no longer standing. Dealings between the Marlins and Huizenga were unfruitful. The resolution states that the board ?desires to direct the County Manager to explore the alternatives for developing a new ballpark for the Florida Marlins in Miami-Dade County and to prepare a report outlining such alternatives.? At least George Burgess and County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa are doing their part...
December 7, 200520 yr Good to hear. I think a lot of residents in Dade County are making their voices heard and the people in the government are responding.
December 7, 200520 yr I'm kinda pissed the state isn't getting involved. They called a special session this week for slot machines and education money. I figured they might try to sneak in some talk about the Fish, one way or another.
December 7, 200520 yr I really find it amusing at how many 'last ditch efforts' we are getting. Not to sound presumptive, but you have to believe that's what the Marlins' goal was all along...light a fire. I pray it just gets done in South Florida.
December 7, 200520 yr Why do I get the feeling before all of this is over that Pot face will come back into all of this? :mischief2
December 7, 200520 yr whatever they do, do it quickly. this has been a long emotional rollercoaster. Just lets us live, or put us out of our misery
December 7, 200520 yr The odds that the state will help us are very slim. There's just no support for us up here, mostly because the Fish aren't on TV in North Florida. I will be pleased if we do get a stadium deal done somehow, but it still doesn't erase the fact that we have a shell of a team left now.
December 7, 200520 yr whatever they do, do it quickly. this has been a long emotional rollercoaster. Just lets us live, or put us out of our misery Seriously, I desperately want them to find a way to stay in South Florida (I don't care if it's Dade, Broward or Palm Beach) but a slow death is horrible. I have to go on a business trip for a few days tomorrow and I feel like getting away from this for a bit will be good. On the other hand, who knows how many roller coaster rides will have transpired by the time I get back. Just what kind of a festive "holiday party" do they think that is going to be next week?!
December 7, 200520 yr A 3rd party has to step in and do something, a CEO, Indian chief, terrorist group, SOMEONE. If the Marlins need to be renamed the AK-47's so be it.

December 7, 200520 yr "Burgess said he's met with Huizenga officials, but "they have not laid anything specific on the table." Burgess is scheduled to meet Thursday with Major League Baseball President Bob DuPuy." http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-sta...ports-headlines This could be nothing, but why would Burgess meet with DuPuy?

Maybe MLB would look into ways to help, I dunno. I still think in the long run, even with all the attendence problems down here, that MLB wants baseball down here. It's a very good TV market and there's still a lot of potential as far as population, corporate ads, marketing, etc.

I would imagine that MLB is going to keep tabs about what is going on here in South Florida in terms of building a stadium and not so much as where the Marlins want to go right away. However if a worthy deal does come along and it helps benefit the Marlins yet the decline the offer, do you think MLB steps in to save the team here?
December 7, 200520 yr Gov. Bush has already said he would do his part in keeping the Marlins in Florida. The problem is GREED!! With the Jackoff Samson trying to hold South Florida hostage while shopping the Marlins to the highest bidding city all while not having adequate funds to even own a team. The best solution for us Marlins fans is for the current ownership to sell the team to someone/group with some REAL money. Fans would come out and support the Marlins if they had a new stadium. The current situation makes for a horrible baseball experience. August heat, rain and a AAA team on the field will not bring the fans out. AND I think that is what Samson wants in his effort to get rich on taxpayer's money. If the attendance is way down and it will be, then Samson can go to MLB and say "look, there is absolutely no interest in South Florida for baseball". I don't think that, when the Marlins win and play good teams the place draws. I've been there, but when the Pittsburghs and Milwaukees of the world then only the die hards are coming out, but if we had a nice new stadium with a retractible roof then it would be a FUN experience to come to the park. Get it!! It's more about the experience then the team and the sport. I ask this question: What is the difference if you have a $65 mill payroll and draw 25k per game or if you have a $20 mill payroll and draw 5k per??? roughly the same percentage of loss. I don't know exactly what the lease is at the stadium, but wouldn't you make a lot more from food, drink, parking & etc with the better team and higher payroll?

December 7, 200520 yr The day the Marlins get a stadium will be the happiest day of my life. :pray Same here :notworthy
December 7, 200520 yr Take this for what it's worth but a friend of mine who works in the comissioner's office here in New York says that MLB is not pleased with the way this whole thing has gone down, because there are serious logistical concerns with all markets being entertained for relocation, especially Vegas (which appears to be Samson and Loria's #1). Perhaps that's why DuPoy is getting involved, that he doesn't want any bridges burned with South Florida.
