May 4, 200422 yr These kinds of games are amazing live. There is no experience the same as a player scoring a goal to tie it up or win it late in the game. Any goal really is amazing. Hockey is definitely in my top three sports to attend with baseball being first then hockey then football.

I am so sick of the Dead Wings. And I hate people in Detroit who think that the Wings and "Hockeytown" (Whatever the hell that is supposed to be) is the be all end of of their existence. It rules them, takes over the collective social conscious up there in a way I've never seen. And not in a "Yay, team spirit" kind of way. More of a delusional POV by living vicariously through the team since they are the only thing of significance in the town. I try to tell them that pretty much 80 percent of the country ranks hockey right up there with Soccer and WWE, but to no avail. I guess you hold onto what you can. Read Mitch Albom this AM and he made mention of the Wings' "Dynasty" (Once again, what ever that is) and it's historical significance. Apparently a few Stanley Cups holds some significant social resonance, but I'm not sure how. I'm sure there is a state of mourning thorughout the whole state for hte next couple of days.
May 5, 200422 yr The Red Wings were one of the original six NHL teams. There is history there. Hockeytown, I don't know about that though. The Tigers have been paid attention to more in the history of Detroit sports. I think that they clinged to hockey because of the fact that the Tigers, Lions, and Pistons were bad for so long. The Wings deserved to lose. They didn't look like they were motivated at all. This may be the last time you see all those veterans together. Good young team though, so look out.
