I'm watching hte Cardinals@Phillies game right now and the Cardinals actually had to bring their own security team to Philly just to protect the upper bullpen where the Cardinals pitchers are from unruly fans, because as you know there's fans that are standing literally right on top of the bullpen and they've thrown stuff at the pitchers and whatnot.. Something is really going to have to be done about this because the fans in Philadelphia are dropping to the level of Cubs fans. I'm sure they'll eventually install a small open roof over the upper bullpen to seperate the players from the fans, but it will probably have to take a serious incident for something like that to get done.

 

Also, one of the Cardinals relievers rolled his ankle while walking down the stairs from the bullpen and out to the field, apparently they've got to walk down two flights of stairs and the stairs are pretty narrow or something.

Actually, the Phillies were actually the ones who were supposed to be in the top bullpen but after the first game the relievers up there as well as the bullpen coach hated it and just said screw it and ever since the first game, the Phillies moved their bullpen to the bottom one.

that bullpen is the stupidest thing ever. not til someone gets hurt somebody won't say anything. i hate everything about the ballpark. i guess what they say is true.. a ballpark does reflect on what your city looks like ... a piece of crap. The "cit" is stupid that scoreboard in LF is ugly it looks like half of it collapsed and they didn't even put a manual scoreboard, neither did petco what a shame.

A team shouldn't have that much of a home field advantage.

 

If it is like this now on regular season games with the PHills playing under .500 ball, imaging a playoff series. Beer, Hot Dogs and who knows what would fly down to the players.

this is something that soccer stadiums have. the term homefield advantage takes a new meaning with it, and I think thats wonderful.

There is a reason that dugouts are covered and fans can't even see the players unless they sit on the other side of the field, so it's beyond me why bullpens aren't the same way. I mean it's definitely fine for there to be seats next to bullpens and whatnot, but the upper bullpen at Philly has a walkway next to it where fans are constantly walking buy and people come and go as they please, somone could throw something at a player and nobody would have any idea who it was because they could easily just walk away.

 

There WILL be some sort of serious incident with a fan hurting a player or something along those lines, it's just a matter of time; something will definitely happen this season, if not during the regular season then definitely during the playoffs if the Phillies make it. Teams should not be forced to hire body guards when going to a particular city to protect their players due to an extremely poorly designed stadium.

 

If I were a manager and we had a series coming up against the Phillys, I would file a grievance with the league and a petition signed by every manager in at least the NL and most likely all of MLB.

 

Besides the poor bullpen location, pitchers have to walk down two flights of stairs to get to the field and that's a very hard thing to do when you've got your spikes on and the stairs are solid concrete. A Cardinals reliever already rolled his ankle today because he slipped on the slick concrete with his metal spikes and the game had to be stopped for a couple minutes.

this all sounds fun and cool now, but just wait for an incident to happen, and somethings gonna change In JRS, there is a tradition to make noise everytime a reliever is warming up in the opposing pen (only done sometimes now, would be done every game before). The crowd makes sounds as if it were a rain stick, the sound going high when the ball is being pitched and low when the ball is being returned to the reliever. This is very, very annoying (my kind of chant :thumbup ). Once, an opposing pitcher (forgot who) decided to fake a pitch to catch the crowd by surprise. He blew out his elbow and to my knowledge has never pitched again (hence why I can't remember his name).

 

Isn't that about the same thing?

NO MORE CHANTS TOWARDS OPPOSING PLAYERS ... IT MIGHT HURT THEIR FEELINGS.
