May 9, 200422 yr We should trade for a catcher prospect since Ramon Castro cant hit a watermelon and Redmond cant play everyday. Josh Willingham was converted to catcher too late in his minors career. By the time he masters the position, it will be too late. Also, his bat is suffering big time now (hitting less than .200). Our best hitting minor league catcher is E. Alfonso in Class A whi is hitting close to .300 with good power. Only thing on him is that he is 25 years old and is at Class A which doesnt help his chances to get to the big show.
May 9, 200422 yr who wants to give up a real good catching prospect? and dont give up on Willingham... his ba is a fluke right now.... he is still getting on base like no other though
May 9, 200422 yr Hammer doesn't need to master the position of catcher he just needs to work on getting his stroke right. I see him like Pat Borders who way back switched from 3B to C in the minors and after a whole season of catching in the minors was playing in the majors.
May 9, 200422 yr He'll be fine because BA is a volatile statistic. He could be hitting the ball hard and just not getting breaks. Eiether way he is slugging the ball when he does hit it and is drawing a ton of walks.
May 9, 200422 yr Author Let me throw one name out there...Yadier Molina of the Cardinals. He is 21, batted .280 lat year and has good plate presence with 1 SO for every 9 AB's for his career. Might be expendable for the Cardinals since they have another highly touted catcher prospect (Daric Barton). I dont think it would take too much to get him. Just a thought.
May 9, 200422 yr Author Interesting Note...We have a minor league catcher that went to Columbine HS in Colorado. His name is Tanner Rogers.
