Since HOK is the architect

Marlins 2003,

You are very informed and usually know what you are talking about. In this case you do not. There is no reason the project can not be competitively bid locally. just because the city and county can not control costs (performing arts center) does not mean that a private business can't. i do it all the time. Since the Team will control the costs ala Arison there should not be significant overruns.

Fresh fish,

The reason local professionals should be used is because it is local tax money funding the majority of the stadium.

Do we want a generic stadium like Joe Robbie or the Panthers arena? Local architects will have a better feel for the proper style needed.

Go Bucks, you and I usually see the world from the same point of view. I can't think of a time we've had a significant disagreement.

But while this is hardly an issue to go to war over, I'd like you to reconsider your comment that I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to large-scale local general contractors.

I stand by what I said.

Let's agree to disagree.

As for your comment to FreshFish, there is no quid pro quo (and there shouldn't be) between the source of the money to build a facility and the need to use local architects and contractors to develop a stadium that captures the flavor of South Florida. The tax dollars involved have been captured from the tourism industry, not locals. And without question any number of locals will win subcontracting roles on the project. There will be plenty of work to go around. But the general contractor and the facade architect should be chosen based on merit and not locale. Plain and simple.

I have no axe to grind with local architects or GCs. Some of my best friends are architects and builders who are creating the "New Miami". But at the same time I don't think you can ignore what's happened with the PAC and to blame its mismanagement exclusively on the city and county ignores the contractor's (Performing Arts Center Builders, Inc., a consortium of GCs) role. If this was an isolated incident I might agree, but unfortunately it isn't in South Florida.

Your comments are not without merit. But neither are mine.

Two things:

1)Let the seating be up close and intimate - like Wrigley is

2)Keep the dimensions of JRS

If we do those two things, I will be a happy, happy boy.

Is that yellow thing a slide?
