Since HOK is the architect

Roof over third baseline, this should be similar, except less seats. (from 40,000 to 38,000 and 2 more luxury suites)

Ignore the water, look at the roof.

Expect something like this.

there is a very close resemblence to the overhead shot we saw last week. this might be it but with modifications.

i agree very nice look makes it look very open. it looks like minute maid park with seats in left instead of the upper deck in RF.

if this is it, i wouldn't expect a retro park....i think it would be a good decision to keep the retro down to a minimum in miami there aren't many buildings with the retro look in miami. this stadium just looks miami.

I think they would go for the art-deco feel...

if a remember correctly i think petco doesn't have much retro look except for the building in LF. me personally, i think the retro look is getting boring we need a new look.

Did I miss something?

When was HOK named the architect for the new stadium? I believe the City used them to come up with that original co-joined plan but I don't believe the Marlins have announced who their architect is.

I could be wrong. I was stuck up in New Hampshire for awhile. Did I miss an announcement?

No, the city originally used the company that designed the renovation of Lambeu Field. I forgot their name.

HOK is mentioned as the Marlins architect in this ESPN article written on 20th of April: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1786464

[OT]Amazing that H-Bomb would refuse to allow the Joe Robbie to be roofed, even though it would mean more revenues.[/OT]

In case anyone wants to know more about HOK but haven't found the site, here it is:

I thought I would inform you about their main competitors, to give a better perspective about how sports architecture have developed.

Famous construction company involved in many of those projects:

In my opinion, a HOK type of architect who specializes in stadiums should be used to design the interior (bathrooms, concessions, site lines , etc) and a local architect should be used for the exterior. All this talk about a stadium creating jobs in the Area and we will not utilize any of the fantastic architects we have in our community. Sure we can create jobs for hot dog vendors and construction workers...... but not for professionals. Lets keep as much as the money in south florida as possible. BTW, i am not asking for a minority , just someone local. The Marlins should pledge to use Dade county and/ or Miami legal counsel, advertising, marketing and design professionals. Just my 2 cents.

If there is one thing I am confident in - it is that the look and design of the park will be first rate. Based upon Loria's art background and the time and effort he spent designing the WS rings - I am confident Loria will be heavily involved in the design process.

If it were anywhere else except South Florida I would agree.

Unfortunately, if you open the door, even a little, to local firms the Marlins run the risk of losing control of construction. Certainly there are many fine industrial architects in South Florida but I would be hestitant to employ any of them for the abovementioned reason.

I expect the Marlins will do everything in their power to keep the South Florida construction mafia (including architects) as far away from this project as possible.

They have a razor thin budget, if the local firms wants the business they must be competitive and better than anyone out of state. This normal business practice. It happens everywhere.

I was thinking the same thing. Loria probably knows exactly what he wants. He's had plenty of time to think about it, that's for sure.

HOK is a local firm. HOK Florida will be heading the project. Based out of Tampa with offices in Miami and Orlando.

these pics are from a proposal that was drawn up when loria owned the expos .. estimated cost would of been around 200m .. i snagged these off of ballparks.com

Very nice. Although the shape is not conducive to a retractable roof design....it does show Loria has good taste.

yeah,

they weren't able to put on a retractable roof .. the proposal was very cost based

should probably give credits to AXOR Group; Provencher Roy & Associ?s Architects who are the architects on the above proposal for montreal

HOK does good work and I wouldn't be upset if they handled this project

I think loria will help them work in some great features that make the stadium very enjoyable

Marlins 2003,

You are very informed and usually know what you are talking about. In this case you do not. There is no reason the project can not be competitively bid locally. just because the city and county can not control costs (performing arts center) does not mean that a private business can't. i do it all the time. Since the Team will control the costs ala Arison there should not be significant overruns.

Fresh fish,

The reason local professionals should be used is because it is local tax money funding the majority of the stadium.

Do we want a generic stadium like Joe Robbie or the Panthers arena? Local architects will have a better feel for the proper style needed.

Btw,

as far as local contractors i am refering to those with a significant local presence. Bovis and Turner to name a couple.
