Honolulu ? Peyton Manning called teammate Mike Vanderjagt an "idiot kicker" at the Pro Bowl, three days after Vanderjagt apologized for making disparaging remarks about the Indianapolis Colts quarterback.

 

Manning made the comment Sunday during a live interview on ABC. He also claimed Vanderjagt was "liquored up" at the time of the Canadian cable TV interview earlier this week in which he said Manning should show more emotion.

 

"Here we are," Manning said. "I'm out at my third Pro Bowl, I'm about to go in and throw a touchdown to Jerry Rice, we're honoring the Hall of Fame, and we're talking about our idiot kicker who got liquored up and ran his mouth off.

 

"The sad thing is, he's a good kicker. He's a good kicker. But he's an idiot."

 

A message from The Associated Press was left at the office of Vanderjagt's agent, Gil Scott, on Monday.

 

Vanderjagt also criticized Colts coach Tony Dungy in the interview with The Score, a Toronto-based cable sports network.

 

"I'm not a real big Colts fan right now, unfortunately. I just don't see us getting better," Vanderjagt said during the interview.

 

"Coach Dungy, he's just a mild-mannered guy. He doesn't get too excited, he doesn't get too down and I don't think that works, either. ... I think you need a motivator, I think you need a guy that is going to get in somebody's face when they're not performing well enough."

 

Vanderjagt, the most accurate field-goal kicker in NFL history, apologized Thursday to Dungy, Manning and the rest of his teammates. He signed a $7.75-million, five-year contract extension with the Colts in November 2000 ? at the time making him the league's highest-paid kicker.

 

"When I get home, I'll deal with it," Manning said. "If he is still a teammate, we'll deal with it. That remains to be seen."

I thought it was funny as hell! It really is like our batboy calling out Luis Castiollio for not stealing enough bases. I mean, Manning is an easy Hall of Famer. He hasn't thrown for 4000+ yards only once, and he is a 5 year veteran. Plus, the year that he didn't, he was a rookie with 3700 yards. Come on, this is the stupidist callout in the history of sports. They guy is almost Dan Marino for god sakes!

I'm sure Vanderjagt just needed to justify why he was not on the field enough this season. The idea of some stuck up ass that comes on the field about once a quarter or so calling the team leaders out for not doing their job is absolutely insane. Vanderjagt needs to check his own agenda, and his testosterone levels while he's at it. The man needs help.

Are you crazy? Manning is going to be a 50,000 yard QB! He is already the 2nd fastest QB to 20,000 yards (Marino). He's a definate Hall of Famer, even if he gets career ending surgery he will be there. He will be the second best of all time (Marino). I mean, they are the same QB! Both drop back guys who stay in the pocket, with the beautiful spiral deep bullet that goes just over every defenders head and right into the reciver's arms.

 

He is the next Marino. Statistically the best in the NFL since his second season! But no ring.....

Would you deny Marino the Hall of Fame because he didn't get a ring? NO! That's the same reason that Payton will make it. The Hall doesn't look at your playoff record or ask how many super bowls you won. If you put up the numbers, you are in Canton. Thats it. I think that Terrell Davis should be in there too. If he didn't get injured, he would still be rushing for 1500+ yards a year! The guy was a sixth round pick, and I would say the best pick past the fifth round of all time besides Zach Thomas and Jonny Unitas.

First of all, 5 years is nothing. 2nd fastest to 20k yards is good, but not everything. And what happens if he does not have another 10 years? What if an injury in the preseason ends his career in 2003 (it is not what I want to see, just a hypothetical question?)

The point is, Manning is not a HOF candidate until he puts up a career, not just 5 very good years.

And if you don't believe me, just ask Vanderjagt.

I think he is a Hall of Famer if he ends his career now! Look at Bart Starr, never hit 30,000 yards and played 13 years or something like that. They would look at the career that would have been for him.......55,000 yards, 375 TD, 60 Comp. %. They see his stats from now and would say, he would have been one of if not the best QB of all time. Starr played during a completely different era of football and the way it was played.

You are basing your arguement on passing yards. Manning plays in the era of the pass, Starr was in the run era (which make his stats more impressive for his time.)

Just as baseball has now turned to a more open offense (longball,) so has football with a much more pass oriented attack on offense.

Now, you may have been around longer, but I know my History. When you have the greatest offensive mind of all time as your coach, you got to pass for more than 30,000 yards in 13 years, no matter what era of football. And its not just passing yards, it TD's too. Plus, it's just the highlight reel he has. The Marino throws. He's just too good to leave out of the Hall, even if he left the league right now. He is going to get his ring in the next three years with his improved d and James back leading the league in rushing again. Think of it. James- Leader in rushing Manning- Passing Harrison- Recieving. Even with those low totals you have mentioned, he still led the league in passing 3 times. That just shows you the difference in the offensive strategies of then and today. And this came from a guy that was drafted #200 overall (17th round pick.)

Well, here's my question to you. Would you put Rich Gannon in the Hall of Fame? Around those same totals in a few more years. He's a great QB, just didn't get a ring. Two time Pro Bowl MVP, one time NFL MVP. Would you do it?

First off, a Pro Bowl MVP is nothing since it is just an exhibition anyway.

Gannon has had a few good years, but he will be one of those fence riders if his name comes up for HOF consideration. One thing that could sway the voters is the MVP season. Personally I do not put him in. If he can repeat his success (especially leading his team to, and maybe through, post season) several more times, then he gets in.

Manning is not a HOFer now..... he could someday be but not now....
