June 28, 200422 yr -ing.. of course. you people just jump all over the fact that carl crawford has like 35 sb's, and juan pierre has what, 18-19, as if that's bad or something. juan pierre isn't having a bad season. he is the one marlin batting over .300, as all great lead off men should be able to do, because they need to get on base, which he does. not to mention he usually goes when castillo has a 2-1 count. (go check how many times luis castillo has had a 2-1 count recently, i know in my three games braves series he didn't have a 2-1 count once). i just find it hard to believe, that marlins fans are bringing up juan pierre's name in either being traded, or negativity, or something else not really called for. :thumbdown :mad :
June 28, 200422 yr JP needs a rest because he looks fatigued, but the all star break is coming up, so it looks like he will play.
June 28, 200422 yr i like J.P. but he's not running enough and when he does he's getting called out or picked off...he needs to be around .330 minumum...his defence is solid except his arm but he makes it up by covering lots of ground..he isnt going anywhere till the guy they call his clone in the minors in MLB ready...
June 28, 200422 yr .330 as a minimum? wow, lofty expectations. i'd love to see that and I'm sure he is capable.. but I think that would have won the AL batting title last year
June 28, 200422 yr The only thing wrong with JP is JP. He is holding himself back. He isnt getting a big enough lead at first and is trying to use his speed too much. He needs to be a little smarter - he hasnt lost a step. And he is a very good CFer. He just needs to get a bigger lead and he will start stealing bases instead of getting thrown out. Let's not forget, defenses are being designed specifically to keep JP off base. Crawford doesnt have to deal with that, let alone AL catchers have to worry about that so much in the AL where station to station runners are what is in vogue (thanks, DH). JP will adjust.
June 28, 200422 yr .330 is outrageous. He's a .307 career hitter and his highest BA was .327 back in 2001. I think jonny hit the nail on the head in that JP is doing something wrong. So far, he's been caugh stealing 11 times allready....in 2002, he had only been caught 12 times(with 47 successful steals)! If the guy needs a break or a trip to cancun or whatever, give him a week off, preferably coinciding with the all-star break so he can get his stuff together.
June 28, 200422 yr i think its that last year other teams wouldnt pay to much attention to him on the bases so he got good jumps but since now hes consider the best leadoff man everyone pays attention to him when hes on 1st and 2nd
