Posted July 8, 200420 yr This is just a an update for recently drafted players. Jamestown Jammers Jason Vargas, our 2nd round pick this year, almost pitched a no-hitter allowing only 1 hit, 1BB, with 7 SO. He has a 0.84 ERA in 2 starts. Brad McCann (3B) and Brian Cleveland (2B) , both drafted this year, have been scorching it up in Short Season A Ball. McCann is batting .327 and Cleveland .344 so far early in the season. Closer Patrick Hogan has been dominant w/ a 1.23 ERA w/ 11 SO in 7 IP with only 2 walks and 4 saves. Other notables: Catcher Brad Davis has played in only 2 games has a .287 BA. He joined the team recently. Kevin Sewell is batting .361. Gulf Coast Marlins 1st baseman Juan Figueroa is the best hitter on the team with a .351 avg w. 8SO in 57 AB's showing good plate discipline. Leads the team w/ RBI's with 14 in 15 games. 2nd baseman Beau McMillan is hitting .306. Catcher Tanner Rogers (FYI: a graduate of Columbine HS in Colorado) is hitting .290 in 31 AB's SP Stu Alexander in 2 starts has not given up a run with only 1 BB with 14 SO in 14 IP. Jason Stokes is on assignment rehabbing and is hitting .250. Will most prob be back soon to AA Carolina. All in all we have some nice prospects this year to build for the future.
July 8, 200420 yr Great news...I trust this organization when it comes to drafting talent. They have done a very good job since they got here. But it takes time for them to bear fruit. I like Vargas - he makes me think of Bartolo Colon for some reason...
July 8, 200420 yr Author Also like to add that in his first game in AAA after scorching AA, Josh Wilson faced Kerry Wood on his rehab assignment and got a hit vs him. Josh is our SS of the future.
July 8, 200420 yr Where'd you get this info on the GCL Marlins? I can't fight anything on them. A couple other nice performances yesterday in Jupiter. Robert Andino made his Jupiter debut, and went 3-6 with a double, and Logan Kensing had his second straight dominant start going 8 scoreless innings, giving up only 2 hits.
July 8, 200420 yr great news from the farm I forget....is vargas a lefty?? I'd be nice if he could make the team next year...i know thats asking a lot...but some reports say that he may be ready very soon

His dad was upset he didn't call him to tell him he'd been called up to Jupiter. Remember this kid is Alex Gonzalez good with the glove and if the bat continue to come around WATCH OUT.
