July 10, 200422 yr Kendall doesnt have to be a 3 hitter, but he could be. Look, the only thing we really need from a 3 hitter is to make contact and move the runners over. I know that doesnt sound sexy, but that is the truth. That is all Fudge basically did - hit the ball to RF and advanced the runners. The reason he got a lot of hits was because JP or Castillo were on base and forced the defense to shift and account for them being on base. Thus, a large hole through the right side opened up and of course, pitches tried to stay away from Fudge to give him nothing to pull. He adjusted and that is when we went on our tear. I know everyone will laugh, b***h and moan, but Conine could do the same thing at the three hole. Why over Lowell or Cabs? To lengthen the lineup and keep everyone from being bunched up. Also, Conine is going to get more to hit at the 3 spot than lower in the order because of WHO is hitting around him. But you dont have to have just Conine there - you could slip Choi in there or even Kendall - if you got him.
July 10, 200422 yr and Choi isnt a two hitter. Neither is Castillo a 6 or 7. 450461[/snapback] No batter is a number. Batters don't hit any better or worse just because they are batting 3rd not 2nd. It's about who is around the batter. Someone in Pittsburgh who's batting 3rd may not be the best fit between Castillo/Pierre and Lowell/Cabrera.
