El Duque es El Backo

Featured Replies

El Duque is pitching as good as he was in 2002...definitely a great edition to the yankees 2004 rotation, allowing the yanks not to trade prospects like Cano away for a starter. For once, a good cheap solution is at hand.

5 innings 88 pitches ... 3 ER but still, first game in atleast a year and he did decent

2 ER...and this is coming off shoulder surgery and the guy is 38....another start or two and he'll have his A game(as if this was a bad start).

Looking at this thread, I think the people who posted here are the only ones on this board who don't think the Yankees are the root of all evil :p

Yup, I think so... :lol

Anyway, it looks like El Duque did a nice job in his ML return. It seems Marsonek got his job done, too. A four game sweep is the perfect way to end the first half. :thumbup

yes, the greatest pitcher of all times is back. and he's 40, or 41, not 38.

sorianofan, didn't we have a debate once about el duque, and you were hating on him big time?

yup, seems like he was really injured. but he'll be healthy by next year and get a big contract.

Sorry, he's believed to be 38. Officially his birthday is listed in 1969(Player Bio) but on YES they said 38.

according to my memmory, he's 40 or 41. i've seen el duque pitch since the mid 80's. since i can remember he's been pitching. lazaro valle, the other star of my home team, is about 44 or 45 now, he wasn't much older than el duque.

From New York Post(http://nypost.com/sports/yankees/17957.htm)...

Hernandez, who will turn either 35 or 39 in October, depending on who you believe, made his major-league debut against the Devil Rays stepping in for the injured David Cone in "that magical '98 season," GM Brian Cashman recalled yesterday ? noting the similarity to this fill-in performance for Mussina, who has a sore elbow.
