August 5, 200421 yr First of all The Illinois Republican Party is a joke, they're just going on name recognition with Ditka and Nugent and now The Carol Mosely Braun/Dennis Kuchinich version in the republican party of Alan Keyes. They want Keyes to try to take on Obama, I guess hoping that is far right views will appeal to conservatives and his origin to make it appear their a united party. I think Keyes will accept this even though he lives in Maryland but he stands little chance of beating Obama.

Hilary's record is one of a left leaning moderate and she is far from an obscure canidate, Keyes is a far right conservative who has almost no political relevance.

However, please dont make it seem like the democrats are a united party, because that would be a total falsehood. Even after the Iraq blunder, the dems have not been able to get themselves together since before the 2002 mid term elections, in which they lost a bunch of seats. As of right now the republicans are more organized than the dems, in fact, coming into the election with an incumbent president and a majority in both the house and senate makes you an organized and united party. The dems actually need to move to the center (not to the left) in order to win back seats, b/c they are the challengers in this election, they can not win with just the liberal vote

Add to that the fact that there are few holes to Obama: he already has name recognition from the DNC, he is a very positive candidate, he has the backing of all the dems in Illinois, he has the money, the otherside is working from behind, etc etc.

August 5, 200421 yr Are you from Illinois? My experience, though not too long, is that it swings back and forth. They had a couple of Republican governers here before Blagojevich if Im not mistaken. And I also believe the Dems just took back control.
