Hey Front Office

All of us go to games, when we have the time and money, because we enjoy them win or lose. And most of us watch on TV or listen on 560 when they're on the road or we can't get to Pro Player.

That said, the obligation of ownership is to make the best effort they can under the circumstances to put a winning team on the field. The current ownership has done a great job, but they are asking us (as taxpayers) to pony up tens of millions of tax $$$$$$ to fund a stadium, while refusing refunds for cancelled games. Suffice it to say that if they don't keep the free agents, or bring in quality players to replace anyone who leaves, there is at least one candidate for Mayor (Morales) who will try to put a stop to the new staium, and the man in the street will not want to fund a losing ball club.

Because of that, I think they will continue to try to put a good team on the field, within their budget. I also think that before they get a new stadium, we need to make them commit to using a substantial portion of the revenues to keep the team competitive.

As far as the evidence will allow, the Marlins organization does re-invest its money back into this team. Remember, people, that the stadium deal is basically ticket sales and some piece of concessions. That is it. I am a little surprised, given our attendance figures, that this team is even able to be as competitive as it has been.

Miguel Cabrera is the team MVP for this very reason. He is making next to nothing (by MLB standards) and is putting up ridiculous numbers. Ask yourself where we would be with both his and D-train's contributions.

Juank...whassup with the tude? How do you expect that this team to get these big name free agents? And remember that whole stadium thing? And I really doubt your fish tank tickets are helping them. We win a World Series and can't get asses in seats..this team is a business too.

We all want to stay competitive, but it's kinda silly to *demand* that this team act like something they're not. So sorry about your gas money and wasted energy.

Exactly, If everyone had his attitude we would not have a team in Florida, much less a competetive team. You decide to NOT support the team because they are not winning. Well go look at the Cubs they have had more loosing seasons than you can count. But people in Chicago love the game and have supported their team no matter what. You can say what you want but the Front Office does not have the benefit of hindsight. you can say they should have done this and they should have done that. But I beleive they made the moves they made with the best of intentions, I think Loria and CO. want to win and I applaud them for giving us last season and trying to bring us another Championship this season. I do not expect we will increase payroll next season as our attendance is still very low and the team does not have the $$$ to sign big name players.

Chicago Cubs has had plenty of time to build it fans base unlike the Marlins who are nearly infants compared to Cubs organization. This team won't go far with it current ownership group. The team needs someone with some $$,who will be willing to spent some cash in order to attract a fan base.Let not give too much credit to Loria for World Series win because the cheap young talent was already in place.

The front office did all they could with the Money they had569450[/snapback]

My entire point is I don't believe they did. But that's an opinion, like I said earlier, one you don't have to share if you choose not to. My attitude might suck according to you, but I'm not one to just on people's backs for nothing. I only criticize players when they don't try hard enough or when something is severely wrong. When I rant, I have a reason. Whether or not anyone else sees that reason is completely up to the audience who reads the black letters pasted together to form thoughts.

I don't understand the reasoning for an owner not to "do all they could with the money they had". It just doesn't make sense.

I have to agree with the guy that talked about us being 27th in attendance...i mean, with that attendance plus our stadium problems, its not easy...besides we gotta think of when cabrera wants big $, how will we be able to pay him if we're stuck with big old contracts?

so how they say, these are the cards we've been dealt, we gotta play with them. :glare :

and if I remember right, the Fish also made a run at Roger Clemens before the WS season

so thats 2 big name free agents

This is a big misconception, I think. I dont think the owner has to have deep pockets in order to make a sports franchise grow. Why? Because the franchise HAS to be able to support itself.

Also, let's not forget that George Steinbrenner - a friend to Jeffrey Loria - was not the richest man in the world when he bought the Yankees. What he did do, and continues to do, is reinvest the profits from his franchise BACK into the franchise. Loria does this too - just there isnt a whole lot to work with at this point due to our attendance and the stadium deals.

But what can happen is an artificial move of sorts. By nurturing the best young talent you can get and maximizing the value of players while adopting a team philosophy that is much more cost effective (defense, speed, and pitching), you re-establish your franchise. Steinbrenner had to learn this the hard way and it took him years before getting the Yanks where they are now. But he didnt have the deepest pockets and had to maximize the money he was spending. This forced him to really get the best value for his money and get the best help money could buy. He couldnt afford to be lax with his spending. Same for Loria and it is hugely successful right now.
