Cmon legacy..it doesnt hinder opportunity. Wealth has been created in times of high taxes and wealth is being created today at the current tax rates. Its too idealistic to argue that the rich will somehow give up home and shut themselves down because they are taxes at a moderate rate. They still have plenty of luxury. I agree that high taxes hurt economy but I dont think the desire to gain wealth ever dies. Plus like I said..Im not for highest taxes..just optimizing.

And Im all for making programs more effecient. Im just not buying the extreme supply side arguments. My issue is with people who think nothing needs to be done with the current problems. Ill give libertarians credit for at least having the same end motive as dems. Just different means. Sometimes I wonder who is behind that though. A lot of people who post the libertarian argument dont want to fix things, they just want all their money..no questions asked. Its short term ratehr than long term views that kill me.

And there is no equal protection based on economics. The wealthy dont complain when the exlude based other based on wealth. They shouldnt cry foul over tax schemes unless they want non discrimination based on wealth across the board. I have a feeling they care more about their zoning laws that exlude non wealthy.

I consider myself a realist libertarian. In my heart I am a libertarian, but practically i would be willing to compromise wiht liberals so that the best can be achieved for america. And as it is now, high taxes do hinder opportunity, not for the wealthy but for the middle class and even some upper lower class people who are trying to pay off debts in order to better themselves but taxes continue to burden them and do not allow them to ever achieve any higher economic position. Anyway, point is do away with mismanagement of funds and stop the raising funding will make programs better fallacy and then we can start effectviely cutting taxes. A good situation I see would be on the federal income tax it should allow people to choose which programs public or private they want their funds going to, and in addition to that any contributions made to a govt approved private charity would be dollar for dollar tax deductible. Here we are still helping 'the less fortunate' but lessening the chance for bureaucratic mismanagement and increasing individual freedom

Ill agree to that to some extent. Part of me wonders if dems should take advantage now and infuse some of the libertarian philosophy. There is a very strong movement to start fighting social ills with community oriented programs. Let the communities come together to fix things and give them rescources. But end the top down models that havent been working.

That seems liek a good idea, but the problem is will many 'liberals' embrace some of these ideas. Because there are people who lean to a more socialist side that are unwilling to compromise at all in terms of allowing individuals to fix things themselves

I dont think there issue is necessarily with letting people take care of themselves but rather a feeling that wealthy greedy people will cheat others and take advantage of these things. When things like Enron happen and people lose their retirment savings because of greedy executive, it hard to argue to privitize social security. I think youd be suprised where a lot of these ideas are coming from. Mainly from universities and other liberals. I think Barack Obama is an advocate of the community based programs. That might be why he and Jack Ryan seemed to get along.

And those with socialist views dont wield too much power. They want equality and if it acheived, I think they will accept it.
