November 12, 200421 yr it's been pushed far both ways. while some extremists from the right are advocating against birth control and such, there are people in the left advocating for partial birth abortion. one thing i'll say in favor of the extremist, if a person's religious views tell him/her that life begins at conception. and the person truely belives that, then that person would be wrong not to fight against abortion.
November 12, 200421 yr Author it's been pushed far both ways. while some extremists from the right are advocating against birth control and such, there are people in the left advocating for partial birth abortion. There are people on the left who are advocating for an exception when the woman's life is in danger for partial birth abortion. The very fact that those on the right are so blind as to be unwilling to accept this only proves my point. a person's religious views tell him/her that life begins at conception. and the person truely belives that, then that person would be wrong not to fight against abortion. :plain You could substitute a lot of things in place of that statment. A person fighting for religious extremism doesnt make them any less extremist. I dont know what the point of your point in favor of extremism is.
November 12, 200421 yr they are people on the left fighting for an exception now because it was outlawed. during the clinton years they were advocating for it, not for an exception. thinking that life beings at conception is not extremist, is just a view based on religion. if you believe in god then god is above all. if you put anything above god then you don't really believe in it. it's not being an extremist, it's being consequent with what one thinks is right.

And the people who think the morning after pill kills life? And the people who think birth control kills children? So you dont think people who say God tells them to engage in Jihad and to kill others are extremists? They base their views on religion. They think God is above all, including the massive people dying in the WTC. They think it is right. Its one thing to have your own religious views but its another when those views extend to others. Yes from a subjective view its fine..but we are trying to deal with civil society here. If everyone who acted in accordance of their religious views to prove they believe in God did so, where would we be? Is a Catholic who divorces no longer a Catholic?
November 12, 200421 yr is not acting according to your views to prove believe. you act according to your views because they are your views, not tro prove anything. wether someone is an extremist or not depends on who's perspective you are using. people interpret god in different ways and act according to those interpretations. however, if you believe in in your heart something should be a certain way, then you would be a fool no to act that way. a catholic who divorces is going against the beliefs of the church, and according to his church he will be sinning, but that doesn't make him non-catholic. people disagree at time or make mistakes. and if you believe live begins at conception, the you have to be against the morning after pill.

But the perspective Im claiming is not uncommon. I have yet to find anyone defend these people from any objective perspective. Semantics.
November 13, 200421 yr from a non religious point of view...when does life truly begin? roe v wade tried to establish that....while i dont agree.. i still cant impose my religious beliefs on the rest of the nation......
November 13, 200421 yr There's certainly a problem when 35 million abortions are done in India based on the fact that those 35 million unborn children were not male. :plain
November 13, 200421 yr Author There's certainly a problem when 35 million abortions are done in India based on the fact that those 35 million unborn children were not male.? :plain 613634 That problem has nothing to do with abortion. If people dont want males, do you know what they would do to the females who are born? India's problem with this has a lot to do with poverty. Girls werent very popular in the US during the industrial revolution because they werent much in terms of future income earners. Multiply that by a lot via population and the problem gets magnified there. The massive amount of poor people there would just sell their daughters off to make ends meat. Those kids go through terrible lives not being wanted. So in essence, youve defended abortion. Let me ask you this: Who is going to pay for those 35 million kids? Who is going to take care of them? Where are they going to get jobs? Who watches them when their parents cant afford them? Will it be you? I doubt that. So Id like to hear your solution to the problem when those 35 million kids are born. Really I would. Ill be waiting. And Id expect you to not give me some attack on the entire nation or the people. Because like America, it is a nation of individuals so you cant just have "their society" change.
November 13, 200421 yr furthermore... why are we even comparing the situation in India to that in the United States? are we grasping at straws now?

Also, if the 35 million abortions are just, does that make the killing of about 15 million baby girls immediatly after birth the right thing to do?

I await your answers. You get your way. No more abortions in India. Now: The massive amount of poor people there would just sell their daughters off to make ends meat. Those kids go through terrible lives not being wanted. So in essence, youve defended abortion. Let me ask you this: Who is going to pay for those 35 million kids? Who is going to take care of them? Where are they going to get jobs? Who watches them when their parents cant afford them? Will it be you? And yes, it is mainly the poor in India who are contributing to the abortion rates. What basis do you have for any of your claims?
November 13, 200421 yr Who is going to pay for those 35 million kids? Abortion in India cost about $200 compared to the average income of $400. These families can pay for a daughter if they can pay the fee for abortion.

These families can pay for a daughter if they can pay the fee for abortion. 613980 :lol :lol Most people struggle to assess the median income of developing nation but chewbacca has come up with a one line assessment. First, where is your source? Where are you getting that the average income earner in India makes $200? Maybe that source can also tell you what those in poverty in India are making. Second, don't you think a lot of poor people get the service for free from local clinics or do it themselves? Third, poor people in India dont make the average. They make much much less. Youre naive if you think the mass of India's population makes that much money. But Ill wait for your source. Fourth do you know why they abort girls? Because girls are not income makers. For poor families to survive, the parents and all the kids must work and those who make less consume more than they make. Its very difficult for people to have girls in India. If they could afford them they would keep them. They arent avoiding girls just because they dont like them. Thats idiotic. They dont keep them because they end up draining more. India has enough problems as it is. They really dont need you or the religious right imposing some ivory tower moralist notion on them. Its fine and dandy to debate the idea of abortion in America as Das says, but for you to be so laughable as to look down upon India because abortions take place there is just naive. Let me get one thing straight right now. Nobody is saying its ok for people to have abortions because they dont want girls. There is an active campaign in India to get people not to have children, educate people, etc. But it is a democracy. People act as individuals. They do so because they as individuals feel its ok to do so. But dont sit there at your computer and pretend it is some foolish immoral decision on their part. There is foundation for their actions and you have offered nothing in terms of solutions that might get people to stop having abortions there out of financial reasons. Here is the reality. If you outlawed abortion and forced the poor people in India to have children when they dont want them(for whatever foolish reason), they would not be able to afford them and would either kick them out, sell them, or do worse. Its not a "I hate kids choice." Its a reality of immense poverty. Who would step in and help those kids when that happens? The thing is, the same stuff happend in the US around industrial revolution and Great Britian.
