Huff killed the Fish this season though, it'd be nice to have us on our side, but TB would command some heavy prospects in what is somewhat of a thin farm system already.

November 11, 200421 yr Is Huff under contract? He's in his fifth year and should be up for arby but the DRay's website indicates he's not going through arbitration this winter. Someone here had a great website of MLB contracts. Sure would like to know his contract status?? It is rather hard to believe until you consider the number of players on the team either headed to free agency or arbitration this winter. Still, it seems like more Gammons BS.

The deal is the largest the Devil Rays have given to one of their homegrown players. General manager Chuck LaMar called it a historic day for the franchise in that Huff's contract demonstrates a commitment by the organization to "find and develop and keep the talented young players that this town and this organization has waited so long for."

At first base they either have Prince Fielder or Dmitri Young's little brother (I'm pretty sure they have Prince) waiting in the wings, maybe a year or two away. Now if they have a hot shot at 3B waiting in the wings (which I wouldn't doubt), why not move him when he's at his peak value? Don't put it past the Rays to have sick prospects, they have a solid pen full of young fireballers, they have Upton, Gathright, Crawford, Baldelli, Fielder, and more, all studs in their own right. Their weakness, major league ready starting pitching, they went out and got some nobody named Scott Kazmir.
