November 14, 200421 yr We have pennies vs. Gold Coins. Spend every penny on Pitching. Keep the starting position roster (with Easley and Redmond). Believe Encarnacion will have a great year. It's a crap-shoot. But, only one we have with our budget. Pitching. Pitching. Pitching. Only way we can be competitive. And we can be. We are going to have an exciting Spring Training. A lot of talent ready to step up. We don't need to buy expensive "potential" or over-the hill power hitting discards this Winter. Let the Gold Coins suck them up. And suck. We go with pitching in 2005. As best we can. Every penny.
November 14, 200421 yr sorry, I cant believe Enc will have a good year... Ive been a big supporter of his for awhile but he just doesnt get it done
November 14, 200421 yr If we have a park friendly to pitchers and slap-hitters, doesn't that mean that marginal pitchers and slap-hitters would perform better? It would seem that we should fill those roles with cheap replacements and put more money into good hitting. Front-line pitching may become more important in the playoffs, but we're not reaching the playoffs with below-average production from half the lineup (C, 1B, SS, RF).

November 14, 200421 yr Author Rferry, Good reply. I disagree 100%. We have a potential line-up that could produce 3 or 4 runs. We don't have Pitching that can hold the opposition to 3 or 4 runs.

November 14, 200421 yr Author Heckeroo, You don't have Pavano, and won't. How's that affect your math?
November 15, 200421 yr LOL Pennies vs. Gold Coins...I was thinking about the Marlins and Yankees payroll when I first read it. So anyways pitching is more important than hitting. You need pitching to win so I guess it would make sense you try to make your pitching as good as it could be. The only problem with that is that if we make our pitching as good as it could be and we don't worry about our offense at all then we might be making our pitching a little bit too good and we might be getting pitchers that we don't need. For example we might get 2 closers when we only need one-that would be something that we shouldn't do. We shouldn't get more than we need on pitching. Get as much as you need don't get anything extra. And so therefore we would spend the rest of our money on offense-and there probably wouldn't be a lot of money left if there is any money left at all.
November 15, 200421 yr Enc=Good year. Not happening. Never had faith in him. Pitching is a little bit more important than hitting. If we have power but the pitching sucks, then we could loose as easily as win.
