Bowa Update

Featured Replies

Florida Marlins manager Jack McKeon reportedly offered Admin Bowa a job as the team's bench coach but has not received a reply. Could be that Bowa will sit out a season after being fired by the Phillies.Although his ouster was expected, it rankled Bowa because the fiery former Sacramento prep guided the club to an 86-76 record and second place in the National League East, finishing ahead of the 2003 World Series champion Marlins. Normally, that isn't cause for firing, yet the Phillies didn't fulfill their division-favorite potential.

Bowa felt betrayed when he lost the support of GM Ed Wade. He suggested the front office didn't do enough for a bump down the stretch, telling the Philadelphia Inquirer:

"The philosophy here is, 'Don't sell the farm for two or three months.' My philosophy is, and I might have a different take if I was a GM or farm director, 'If you have a shot, roll the dice and go for it.' I think the Phillies are conservative. You have to roll the dice and let the chips fall where they may. One player can mean the difference."

Bowa is still battling an image problem. He denied he was too demanding of his players but conceded that some Phillies are probably happy to see him go.

"My sense of urgency to win was probably wearing them down," he told the Inquirer. "If you've never won before, you don't know what you're missing."

:mischief2 Maybe he just isn't a good manager and always gets fired. Admin had plenty of talent to win with and failed.

Funny. They did better down the stretch with that makeshift bullpen than they did with the veterans Bowa had alienated early in the season. However Bowa's demeanor did change by mid-season and he was much more humble than ever before.

what are some of the names that being mentioned to be the bench coach? other than Bowa and all of those who have being hired already.

I hated Bowa in a Philly uniform, but I was really hoping he'd come over to be bench coach. I really think he would have been good for this team.
