November 30, 200421 yr Postal 2: Share the Pain banning Monday, 29 November 2004, 2:54 pm Press Release: Office of Film and Literature Classification 29 November 2004 Media Release on the banning of the computer game Postal 2: Share the Pain The Classification Office has banned the PC game Postal 2: Share the Pain in a decision announced by the Chief Censor, Bill Hastings. It has been banned because the Office determined that its availability was ?likely to be injurious to the public good.? Postal 2 is the second computer game to be banned in New Zealand, after Manhunt was banned in late 2003. In Postal 2 the player control a character called Postal Dude who interacts with other characters by exposing his penis, urinating on them, kicking them, killing them and mutilating their corpses. Characters react to the Postal Dude by screaming, vomiting, begging for their lives, fleeing or attempting to kill him. link
November 30, 200421 yr I'd censor that game. In the US it would get an Adult rating possibly and thats the same as good luck finding it.
November 30, 200421 yr Author I'd censor that game. In the US it would get an Adult rating possibly and thats the same as good luck finding it. 623479 The game was released here in the states nearly a year ago. You can find it easily on BitTorrent, or other Warez programs.
November 30, 200421 yr Author i would bann that game too. how's that taking away people's rights? 623562 Oh so you think its okay to tell people, you can't play that, oh you can't watch that. You support the war effort to spread democracy, letting people do whatever they want as long as it does not harm other people, don't you? So you should be for letting people play this if they want and you should let people make the game if this is how they express themselves. Using the criteria now used for going into Iraq, spreading democracy and freedom, maaaaybe we have to look at going to New Zealand and their "supressing" government. It is the same logic after all.
November 30, 200421 yr you sir, are pathetic. when have i suppported the war? if anything, i've been critical of it. it was stupid to go there, and it is stupid to still be there, but that's another story. i've never advocated for "spreading democracy and freedom". no liberty and freedom can be absolute and your rights end where the next person's begin. there's a difference between liberty and libertinism, and when libertinism starts, then freedom ends.
November 30, 200421 yr Author no liberty and freedom can be absolute and your rights end where the next person's begin. 623677 Where in the world are your rights being infringed by someone playing that game, or making that game?

And peoples thinking infringes on your rights? What are you the thought police? Should we jail every person who thinks we should kill all blacks, jews, asians, etc, just because they think it?
November 30, 200421 yr i guess i'd liken it to porn. you can't just walk into target and buy pornos. i don't think it's appropriate to sell the game in any old store, but i really can't think of a video game equivalent of a porno store. maybe in 15 years...

December 1, 200421 yr Meh, this is gay. I don't agree with the game but it isn't the governments place to tell me what to play. Hell, I bet this makes more kids want to play the game than before. Normally, a game about peeing on people and such would only appeal to a small audience, spearheaded by a famous R&B artist. However, doing something to spite the government appeals to a much broader base. If they just leave it alone, put the label on, and say nothing, maybe ten people play this game. Now, it might be a thousand or more.

You are the only person with your standpoint it seems, so let us try and see it from your standpoint. How does this games existance infringe on your rights?

One could argue that a lot of things that are legal might corrupt the youth and that that could lead to the youth doing other things that could indirectly affect you. Doesnt allowing people to get tatoos show a bad example for kids and make them bad and bad kids could one day attack you? Such an indirect affect goes well beyond the scope of the "at my door" argument. If perhaps there was evidence that playing this game most certainly leads to kids engaging in violent acts against others then perhaps the "your rights end at my door" view might work. But it simply doesnt here. If you want to legislate against this game, your effectivley stuck with the moral legislation viewpoint. It has nothing to do with how this could affect you. It has more to do with what you think is best for the teenagers of our country. Making sure teens cant buy porn has little to do with the effecti it has on you but more to do with the fact that we dont want teens to look at porn as a society. At which point the NC17 labelling does its job.
December 1, 200421 yr Orisha's point makes plenty of sense. However i do not advocate buying the game. Our society censors sex much more than violence and IMO violence is worse for children than sex. A game like that needs to be slapped with a mature rating but also should not be sold along with other games. Perhaps it can be under the counter so adults can request it if they please and children wont have easy access to it. The fact is that it isnt the moral argument in orishas case the truth is violence has been proven to make children more violent, violent children are a can be hazardous to my health thus infringing on my rights
December 1, 200421 yr Author Violent video games make kids more violent? Okay, let me use that logic for a second since you seem to like it so much. Playing violent video games make kids more violent. So that must mean if I play a lot of NFL 2K5 I am the next Randy Moss right? Or at least better at being Randy Moss before I played, right? :plain That is using your logic.

Well then using that logic playing sports video games should lead to masses of Albert Pujolses. And find me one study where psychologists found this game as to turning kids into mass murderers or something else that is going to infringe on your rights.

If this is the first time you ever hear that argument you dont get out much apparently. Violence in television and video games has been linked to violent behavior in children, i never said mass murder or anything of the sort. I dont need to get you some crappy internet link to prove that point when there is tons of research out there on the topic, check it out at your local library. Granted like most psychological research it isnt 100% accurate but it isnt false logic or some nonsense i made up, thats defintely been a hot topic. in fact when i was growing up that was one of the biggest controversies, especially whne games like mortal kombat first came out. It wasnt about morality, it was parents that believed those psychological reports and thought those games would breed violence in children. Your sports game theory is asinine and stupid. Violence breeds violence, ask a person who grew up in an abusive home, or better yet ask ted bundy, jeffrey dahmer, or butch defeo.
December 1, 200421 yr Author APA Report: Date: April 23, 2000 Contact: Pam Willenz Public Affairs Office (202) 336-5707 VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES CAN INCREASE AGGRESSION May Be More Harmful Than Violent Television and Movies Because of the Interactive Nature of the Games I don't see a definite answer here. The world CAN end tomorrow. Humans MAY BE alone in the universe. Doesn't mean either are true. I found this graph from the article most intresting. It shows that males with more passive personalities, on the left (Low AP), acctually show a decrease in agressive behavior. Clearly is shows that people on the right (High AP), with generally already agressive personalities become more agressive for the short term. This graph shows that people with more passive personalities become less agressive as video game violence increase. So one could say that violent video games make people less violent and agressive and you would be right according to this study. And you could expand that and say because some people are less agressive for playing vioelent video games then you could agrue that each person who is less agressive from playing violent video games is one less person who will be "infringing" on your rights during your lifetime. In other words, its inconclusive. 2000 Years ago scientists knew the earth was the center of the universe. 600 years ago scientists knew the earth was flat. What will we know tomorrow? http://www.apa.org/releases/videogames.html And still these games are not sold to kids. If a kid goes to try and buy the game they won't be able to, its like rated R movies, you have to be 18 to buy a mature video game. And at blockbuster you have to have parent's consent to rent Mature video games. I am not saying to give these things to kids, but I am saying banning the games for everyone infringes on people's rights who have a right to play and make the game if they choose to do so.
