US foreign policy called "dictatorial"

I toyed with putting this in the joke's section.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the United States on Friday of pursuing a dictatorial foreign policy and said mounting violence could derail progress toward bringing peace and democracy to Iraq.

Putin also criticized the West for setting double-standards on terrorism, pursuing Islamic fundamentalists in Afghanistan and Iraq while giving refuge to "terrorists" demanding Chechnya independence from Russia.

The Kremlin leader's tough remarks came on a visit to former Cold War ally India, where he and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh issued a joint call for greater cooperation in stabilizing and rebuilding Iraq.

Unilateralism increased risks that weapons of mass destruction might fall into the hands of terrorists, and would stoke regional conflicts, Putin said in a hard-hitting speech to an invited audience.

"Even if dictatorship is packaged in beautiful pseudo-democratic phraseology, it will not be able to solve systemic problems," Putin said. "It may even make them worse."

I didn't know that India and Russia were such close allies.

They were allies for a few reasons. The US chose to make Pakistan its ally and in doing so pushed India to become friends with Russia. India's ruling Congress party at that time(and for most of that time) was egalitarian in nature. Plus both sit next to China.

...or maybe they were just buddies.

The irony. Mr. Putin needs to learn "Pot. Kettle. Black."

We're actually very far behind (response to shamrock). Its once again the prescriptive rights argument. From russias beginnings all the way to 1991 it wasnt democratic or liberal (in terms of liberalism [locke and hobbes]) It is much easier for Russias fragile dmeocracy to fail under a leader trying to assume power tha it is for the US. Not only that but even for the people who think Bush is takin away certain rights, lets look back at FDR and lincoln to see that if Bush is similar to Hitler then FDR must have been Nero and Lincoln must have been Louis XIV. The blatant disregard of hsitory is stunning

Just ignore Russia, Putin only wants his country to feel important again, lol.

Newsflash: Any country with H-bomb equipped ICBMs that can hit anywhere on the planet IS important.

Thanks for the news flash, its not like most of us already didn't know...

Communism is on the rise again, the economy in Russia is horrible, Chechnya, there are a number of catalysts supporting the rise, especially since the communist party of Russia is becoming a player in politics after a decade of being minor in all politics.

What the hell is going on over there anyway? Count me in the clueless category.

From what I've read:

-Consolidating power

-Gaining more nuke technology

-Eliminating political opposition

-Imprisoning wealthy dissenters

-Influencing former Soviet countries for voting

Just ignore Russia, Putin only wants his country to feel important again, lol.

Putin is facing opposition from leftist groups, which means that if he were to assume a more dictatorial role, the former KGB man would most likely be more of a 'right-wing' dictator, simply b/c he can scapegoat the communists and justify his power grab on the need to stop the communists and terrorists from taking over
