December 10, 200421 yr having the 9th best era in the majors blows. 631057 And having the 6th most walks in baseball is AWESOME! 631501 It means who wont give into a hitter *waits for "it means he is all over the place" :whistle 631539 A walk is a walk; it puts a guy on base and runs up your pitch count. What's worse, a guy with really bad control trying to throw strikes or a guy who can throw strikes but won't because he's too stubborn?
December 10, 200421 yr I think this move saves face, doesn't really hurt much but doesn't help either if this is Pav's replacement. I just look at it this way. Al will give us solid starts, however, those starts will last uder 6 full innings. Do we really want our bullpen pitching 3+ innings at least once every 5 days?
December 10, 200421 yr I think he is overpayed, but we are a little desperate so overall it's good. A starter who failed to pitch 6 innings in 13 of his 30 starts last season can't possible deserve 7 million. He's ripping us off and we don't have a lot of money to get ripped off. But it seems like were losing a lot of pitching, and if we don't keep Pavano were going to need someone to atleast fill in the hole a little bit for him. And Leiter can do that much atleast. But one problem arises that since he doesn't go far into games, maybe we should get a 6th starter to finish off the game after he pitches, or to atleast take the game to the 7th or 8th inning when he's done. Like when we had Tejera...whenever a pitcher got knocked out of the game early he came in. And we don't want too waste Mota or someone else in that situation. So what do you guys say? I think we need a 6th starter in the bullpen for Lieter...what do you guys say?
