Featured Replies

This is all meant in fun.. no need to dive in to obvious generalizations :)

Anyway.. I got this from a thread on the Iowa Football/basketball board asking people what are dead give aways someone is from Iowa... granted, some are probably true of people from other states but it's all in fun and thought some of you floridians might enjoy it.

Phrases/mannerisms/vocabulary:

-The use of the phrase "Just a tad"

- "Say, I've been mean'n to tell ya"

- Calling soda "Pop"

- Using the phrase "A couple three"

- Ending phrases with prepositions.. 'Where are you going to?' or 'What time is the movie at?'

- Saying 'warsh' instead of 'wash'

- "You betcha!"

- Really bad farmers tans

- When you're in a different state, you look for other Iowa license plates to see if it's someone you know.

- people wear their cell phone attached to their waist as if it is an accessory

- 'You bet!' instead of 'You're welcome.'

- 'acrossed' instead of 'across.'

- Calling a small stream a 'crick' instead of a 'creek'

- "anymore" in a positive sense. Such as, "they still serve cheese fries anymore" as opposed to "they don't serve cheese fries anymore."

- Using "s*** load" as a unit of measurment.

- Celebrating May Day. You say it in Florida and they are either clueless or think I am talking about plane crashes.

- When a stranger asks me "where'd you wrestle?" out of the blue.

- The extraordinarily large penis

- They "scoop" snow

- They've hit, or know someone who has hit, more than one deer driving.

- The back of their car is caked with gravel dust. You can't see the license plate let alone the numbers or county.

- They are donning the fashionably retarded fanny pack.

- The use of the word 'sack' compared to 'bag'.. this is where you get funny looks around the country.

- They are comfortable using the phrase "Kum and Go" around their parents.

- Kitchen pantry is stocked with cream of mushroom soup

- "Same"

- "Grampa and Gramma"

- In Madden 2005, when the Chicago Bears have Bob Sanders, Brad Banks, Ladell Betts, Robert Gallery, Aaron Kampman, Jared DeVries, Kevin Kasper, and Nate Kaeding on the roster.

- They can spell Maquoketa correctly

- They know that Ames is the rectum of the country.
