Beinfest4Prez and I run this Panthers fan site. This is the new page we created, but we intend to add more features once the NHL starts up again. Please leave comments and suggestions here so I can use them to improve our site!

Thanks, We have forums and a portal as well just for the Panthers.....We hope you stop by and leave a post or two!

NHL Hockey

Is it bad our local FSN affiliate showed an old game from last year and I watched the whole thing?

I need hockey...

I will take a Philadelphia Quaker game even. (If they had any recordings of them of course... For all of you hockey illiterate, the Quakers were the original Philly team in the 30s and were the worst hockey team ever. Had something like a total 200 winning percentage.)

Hi, my name is John, and I'm going through NHL withdrawl too...

You can have the Quakers...bring back the Miami Screaming Eagles (or the Manatees even)!

At least there's college hockey on CSTV to watch, in addition to the classic Panther games.

And right now, I'm listening to Sam Rosen and John Davidson call an AHL game.

Lucky, I don't have CSTV.

BTW: The Screaming Eagles never played a game in Miami. :) Yeah I know you probably know that already.

I have like 5 or six AHL teams within 3 hours of me.

I want to make this perfectly clear that I'm giving out constructive criticism from an aesthetic point of view. I'm not trying to crap on your site.

Left navigation should be improved. The graphics look like MS Paint-ish in nature. Use Photoshop (with crisp setting) to make something nicer looking.

In terms of color, I'd avoid the Yellow wherever possible. Red, white & blue is a good look but when you throw in that color yellow on that color red, it tends to look like a bad McDonalds rendition. Keep the yellow in the main banner if you want but keep it out of anywhere else.

Now that I look at the site, go with the navigatioon & color scheme you used in the link to Portal. Good use of red & white with some blue.

This is not so much an aesthetic problem as it is a personal gripe. Move your hosting for the forums to your own server. In today's world, web hosting is cheap enough that you shouldn't need to host it on those free servers. They put those tacky ads on it and hinder your overall look. If you'd like a suggestion for a great & cheap host, try HostPC. I use them and recommend them to anyone.

You're off to a good start and let me know if I can be of anymore help!

QuickGold,

Thanks for the good suggestions.

I am working on the colors and graphics, but I needed to get it working quickly. As time passes, it will be corrected. It is a new program and I am learning how to use it properly.

The host is my family's business website. The forums are hosted on InvisionFree, but the home page is http://panthers.capeforyou.com/

The ad is for my family's business and is required in order to prove to the tax man that it is for business purposes.

Firefox has problems displaying graphics from what I have experienced.

No....if that's the case then the person coding is an idiot. Firefox follows all W3C standards, whereas IE does not. Besides, any good webmaster should code their site so anyone can see their site, regardless of platform, browser or resolution.

Too bad the Phantoms are incredible this year. Or else the Americans could have a chance at the divison title. :p

I am trying to find a way to correct the problem. Right now, I don't ahve the time to correct all the graphics. I am no longer coding by hand but using Microsoft Publisher.

  • Author

OK, I made some updates and tested them with FireFox, Mozilla, Netscape, and Internet Explorer.

It's getting better...

First, I'd ditch MS Publisher as your HTML program and use a real program like Dreamweaver or GoLive. MS Products (Publisher, Word, Frontpage) are terrible IMO.

Regarding the left hand navigation, since graphics aren't a strongpoint for you, try one of these DHTML menu generators:
