Today's announcement by the Dolphins speeds up this process....Wayne issued a challenge....Dade County and the City will shoot back with this.

These 2 facilities once done will be beautiful!

Through private funds, the stadium will be given more than $100 million worth of upgrades, preparing the facility for future Super Bowls and Orange Bowls.

Wait. Won't the Orange Bowl game go back to the Orange Bowl once the renovations are completed? So PP Park or Dolphins stadium or whatever isn't going to have the opportunity to host very many Orange Bowl games :confused

And is it just me or does Huizenga come off looking like an @$$ in all of this? I mean, he's talking about putting the one feature that the Marlins have needed forever on the stadium that they are currently playing in, only AFTER he kicks them out! :mad

Yes, you are confused. :) That is because the Fed Ex Orange Bowl game will not go back to the Orange Bowl after the renovations are done to the Orange Bowl. IOW, the FedEx Orange Bowl will always be held at the Dolphins Stadium even after the completion of the original Orange Bowl renovation. Dolphins stadium is just too a superior venue to the Orange Bowl even after these Orange Bowl renovations.

Pardon me, but thats pretty damn stupid. :plain

Well the only reason why the Orange Bowl game is at PP Park is that the OB Committee knew they couldn't attract many people to the game because the OB was so old and needed renovations. However the OB committee has always said that they would like to move it back to the OB one day. So I just think that because PP Park is a newer stadium, doesn't mean they should keep the game once they finish renovations on the Orange Bowl.

You wouldn't keep the Rose Bowl game away from the Rose Bowl, would you?

I have heard the complete opposite. I don't think they have ever said they want to move back to the OB. I know this because I read and heard this on the radio some time ago. I am not making this stuff up. Quite simply FedEx Orange Bowl will not be returning to the Orange Bowl even after the Orange Bowl renovations. Even Wayne knows that. That is why he mentioned he wants to upgrade the Dolphins Stadium for future Orange Bowl games. You just got confused because you always thought they would move back to the Orange Bowl. Btw, the FedEx Orange Bowl will not stay at the Dolphins Stadium because it is a newer facility; it will stay there because it is a superior facility for the FedEx Orange Bowl needs.

The only reason that the FedEx Orange Bowl is played at Dolphins-Joe Robbie-Pro Player-Dolphins Stadium is that the BCS told the Orange Bowl Committee that in order to get a BCS game, the game would have to be played at D-JR-PP-DS and not at the Orange Bowl. It was the BCS that perpetrated the move, not the OBC.

And no way will the BCS want them to move back to the Orange Bowl. They can just make too much money on Dolphins Stadium that they cannot make even in a renovated Orange Bowl.

It is the BCS who made them. I think a second bowl game may not be out of the question...but it would require a big effort.

Miami Orange Bowl Stadium has one purpose: host all University of Miami Hurricanes home football games

I hate to say it, but that really does suck.

Not really....UM is the main reason and Miami still has the bowl game. The old stadium will see other uses. It will be a great concert venue like always and the most intimate football stadium in the world.

I agree with you there, but to have the Orange Bowl game never return to the Orange Bowl seems kind of wrong to me.

The game moves on. It happened and while it was a loss for the stadium...the game survives. However, I think the committee is crap and incompetent.
