January 11, 200521 yr With them already over the cap for 3 straight years, Beltran's $17 million salary would have cost them $21 million. Plus, the contracts of Jeter and Giambi are heavily backloaded meaning that they're going to start paying those guys in excess of $20 mil a season soon.
